What I always liked about the Empire is that they are, for the most part, 16th century regular blokes that qre assaulted from all sides by every single horror a fantasy scenario could throw at you, and they survive by using 16th century warfare. No Space Marines (but Wizards), no "we have a quadrillion soldiers", just regular sized armies of regular sized humans that carry on with Steel, Faith and Gunpowder.
The fact that WHFB is one of the only franchises (outside of weird Anime), where you have a german-inspired faction that ISN'T a bunch of nazis, also warms my little german heart.
Yeah and the fact WHFB has Australian dudes that hate guns but they live in Norway HEATS my massive Australian heart so much I feel like pillaging the empire

Which is really bizarre when you remember this is a universe with functional magic and people all over the place wielding godlike powers just by praying hard enough, heck many legendary lords are practically demigods like actual demigods ridiculously overpowered just because if not basically living gods amongst men. Which is why I find it wierd they'd need faith to believe in gods and magic when it's an objective fact in their world, you don't need faith in something that's proven to be real beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I adore the Empire. It is a strange mix of Holy Roman Empire, Imperial Rome, Steam Punk (Tanks) vibes, and in general European civilization, plus crazy diverse mages and interesting lore. It has enough grim but also sparks of light and hope. Kark Franz is a great leader but not perfect that makes him human. Places and towns are diverse and memorable with their own tradition and history. So much better than anything in 40K or AoS.

It is the same in history, because most of the medieval age, the English nobility still speak French rather than English, especially the king. They were descendant from the Normans.
Nobles throughout history have often been snooty cunts like that. Like in ancient Rome, the plebs spoke Latin, but the twat waffles who thought themselves above it all spoke Greek and fucked a lot of twinks.

Well Karl Franz is basically a fantasy Maximilian. Which is cool with me. Maximilian was a great emperor and totally deserved a giant gryphon and a heap of fantasy races to crump.

Karl Franz is and will always be my boy in Warhammer and Total War. He is a total badass without being OP and once you went 3+ Hellfire rockets in your army, you never want to go back :-D Screw Age of Shitmar, all hail Total War Warhammer which allows you to change history in Mortal empires chapter 4 and usher in "The age of Franz" !!! CAs way to tell GW to suck our balls and choke on it.
The way to actually play Franz is state troops and Reiksguard. Have some artillery pieces but Franz' bonuses to leadership and buffing both infantry and reiksguard is just the icing on the cake. He makes Greatswords stupidly good, and he makes fielding more Reiksguard not only cheap, but buffs them enough to be viable endgame shock cavalry.
If you like Artillery, just go Balthasar, he gives like 10% more damage to artillery pieces.
