Great sounding album when it was released. And one heck of a tour to see. The band was on fire.
And their VMA performance of Poundcake was so tight- they were firing on all cylinders!

Always love a reissued and remastered box set, so looks like your very happy with what Rhino have done with the new Van Halen box set. Just such a shame on the inner sleeve tear. I hate that and have suffered a few of these from postage. Lovely to hear that you highlight an album you dig and it sells out !! great work Frank.
I bought Balance brand new at Camelot Music in 1995. Every once in a while, Camelot would feature a vinyl on their cd new release rack. They usually didnt sell, and would end up in a clearance bin for $5, eventually. Thats the funniest thing about these NOW super-expensive vinyl. It was the opposite when i bought them in the 90s, they were all like $5 on clearance. Back then, stores couldnt give them away, AND most didnt carry them at all, they were mostly mail-order. Meaning, you had to look through tons of magazines and flyers, just to find out what new releases came on vinyl, as most were not released on vinyl at the time. Most stores didnt carry vinyl at all, other than dj 12" singles

Thanks for the VH review Frank! Believe it or not, I was on the fence about making this purchase. I am in the process of moving to another state so money is tight and I just bought the VH 2 box set last year. After seeing the cool box and hearing about the contents, I decided I need it after all. Lol. I hope Rhino will continue putting out these VH box sets.

I love this album! But I guess I am bias, I love every single VH album.
I've been spinning the Lemon Twigs. I recently got their latest release, A Dream is All We Know, and it's made me go back to their earlier albums and rotating amongst them. Can't wait to see out on the road this fall.

Rhino led this release format with their STP releases over the years and they are always terrific, so I'm happy to see these spill over into the Van Halen camp. I'm really interested in this, but I've hesitated to buy the album *again* because I just feel like they could have dug up more content that we haven't heard before.
Not surprised about the seam split, as the majority of Rhino’s shipments arrive with some form of damage (read various FB and Steve Hoffman forums). Im looking forward to receiving my copy, but already fearing it will arrive damaged. Hopefully, Rhino shipping will get their act together.
I’m happy to hear that this vinyl version sounds great. I preordered this expanded edition and I got the one from the box set and I’ve had no problems with it but I’m gonna compare the two and let my ears decide. I’m in agreement with you that this album along with the rest of the Hagar era material should get standalone releases with wider availability and not just box sets and limited edition releases.

Hi Frank, Thanks for the vids they are awesome .I'm really likin the intro, brings a smile to my face every time. My copy of VH is on order , should arrive next week. I've been spinning the new 50th anniversary remastered by Dweezil Zappa, Deep Purple Machine Head, sounds great.

I was actually on a Festival here in Germany and listened to great Music. :) Some Bands were there like Skilltron, Visions of Atlantis and Orden Ogan and some other cool ones :) So now I have a Tinnitus but wanted to watch ur video which is always great :)
We have always had a good experience with/Rhino. One of our favorite overall VH albums. By the way, I was at that Dallas show-true story. It was absolutely electric!-Chris & Beth🎧

I recently picked up an original pressing of Star Wars a new Hope on vinyl at a thrift store for 30 bucks. The album cover had a few Knicks on it, but the vinyl sounded fantastic! That’s what I’ve been spending!
Check for the poster inside, great collector piece if it’s still there!

Glad to hear they did a good job. The 2023 downloadable version actually has a better dynamic range score than any previous release, indicating that they remastered this really well. This is certainly an album that needs its atmosphere. I wonder if the rarity of the original pressing had to do with them giving this album such a huge reissue. If so, I hope that it sells well and will inspire some other early 90s albums to be given a similar treatment. Sound of White Noise, anyone?
I have the original LP release in great condition. I only like about half of the album, so I haven't listened to it from start to finish in a long time. However, I'm almost certain that Man On A Mission my most listened to VH song ever.
Rhino have really elevated everything in the last year or so, I’ve had a few box sets from them including Biggie Smalls - Life After Death 25th box, the new Seal self titled 30th anniversary and the Doors Live at the Matrix to name a few, they’ve all been superb from the pressing to the packaging.
I have also been very happy with the Rhink reissues I have heard.

There was an issue with the second side of the box set version. I tried 3 different ones and they all had an issue. It is especially noticeable on Right Now. I am looking forward to checking this new version out.
The clipping I heard on the boxset version, specifically on 316, seems to be fixed here. I am going to go back and specifically check Right Now. The only muddy track I really heard was Poundcake.
@@Channel33RPM I was getting a muffled or distorted sound in the right channel that was most obvious on piano and keyboards. It was on most of side 2 but it was most obvious on Right Now. It isn’t on the high res/streaming version of the album in the box set so I am not sure what it was. Viewers on my channel commented they heard it too.
Really surprised they haven't done 5150. Best Sammy Album. I dont know if he did the whole show, but a guy on youtube did a 4k upscale of LWAN. I know some people like an official release, but there is software to rip files off YT. Then you can burn to disc if you like.

picked up yes-close to the edge today when i didnt see this release in the store i was at, but a great review nonetheless
VH 'Live Without A Net' is also one of my favorites. 5150 tour was the only time I saw VH and LWAN really captures the experience. That said, my all-time favorite concert video is still 'Stevie Ray Vaughan: Live at The El Mocambo.' If you've never seen it, I cannot recommend it highly enough. Why Sony hasn't released a Blu-ray + CD soundtrack version is a mystery. SRV fans would rejoice. THX, Frank!
That SRV one is excellent. The other concert video I love is Queen Rock Montreal. So good.
I agree that the original CD sounds excellent and the best. It's more open and dynamic and has a consistent sound throughout than my original Europe LP, 2023 remastered CD, 2023 LP... I've also heard the 2005 Japan CD (WPCR-75070) which has quite a compressed dynamic range.
The original CD sounds amazing.
1980's synth pop with metal guitars, check out Beast In Black.

I'd love to see 5150 released as a stand alone 2 LP. My latest acquired rock album that most suits this channel (was also the most expensive) is the new Fu Manchu - The Return Of Tomorrow 2LP 45 rpm record set.🤘The same delivery included Robert Plant / Alison Krauss - Raising Sand which I know very well since its release but I finally just picked up brand new for $15 CAD, a used NM copy of Roy Harper - Lifemask (features Jimmy Page on side B) and a 2024 repress of M Ward - Transfiguration Of Vincent (I've been going down an M Ward rabbit hole recently.
A great review of the VH Deluxe set. Very well thought out Frank. Others should learn from you.
I watched the SuperDeluxeEdition unboxing of the Super Duper Edition of the album Mind games by John Lennon. It was limited to 1100 copies at a cost of £1,300.00 per copy.
It comes in a large perspex cube. The Deluxe set costs £130.00. If you watch the video on YT, it's awesome, but it is a lot to pay for. I believe it's now sold out too.

To be honest Frank, I have the 6 CDs from VAN HALEN I 📀 to 1984 📀. But the only one I really listen to much is the first one. 📀
So with it being on 3 sides are they 45 rpm? Because that will make a sound difference.

Did they actually improve the e sound quality this time? The Sammy collection that they released last year the difference was hardly noticeable compared to lower volumed versions before.

Is it a different mastering than the box set reissue? Cause that one did not have much bass. Returned my CD box set and replaced them with the Japanese Forever Young releases.
Not into Van Hagar, tho they had tremendous commercial success . Sammy can belt Vocals as in Montrose Rock Candy .

I saw a VHS copy of LWAN the other day, and should've probably grabbed it. Even if they do a 5150 reissue box with it in it. I would hope, like this F.U.C.K. one that they can release the blu ray or dvd on it's own a year or two down the road.

Oh man.... I'm not sure how I can answer this. Are you asking if I have hearing loss, or are you asking how I rank myself at assessing the quality of audio? I don't think I've lost much hearing over the years... and audio quality is super subjective.

That's a good question. They sound different to my ears - but that could be the difference between a single LP (2 sides) and 3 sides. That said, the clipping on 316 appears to have been fixed.

I have not heard the CD boxset.
I used to be a fan of Reckless Love. They fell off (in my opinion) after Animal Magnetism. Even they must of felt the displeasure of their fanbase since they are now on hiatus. I would be surprised if they got going again. Crazy Lixx fills their void just fine.
Hi Frank, you seem like a very nice human being and you do a heck of a job, but I feel compelled to chime in here on a bit of negative note. We waited a long time for them to re-release the Hagar era on vinyl. I, personally, was dissapointed in the sound quality. So now they're going to start re-releasing already they way they should have been released initially on 2lp's... As you alluded, I think the original cd's sounded better than the box set lp's. That's playing on a Marantz SA-10 cd player mind you. I'm sure many VH fans will be delighted by this release, but I'm put off. They should have done a better job with the box set that so many of us purchased not long a go. To release this so soon after turns me off. I'll tell all the vinyl enthusiasts something else they may not want to hear but cd version of albums played on a Marantz Sa-10 sound better than their vinyl counterparts 99% of the time, and in fact I've had people tell me they think that player sounds more analog than the vinyl and some thought the SA-10 was the record player and not the cd player. I love vinyl and want it to win, but from a strictly audio persepective cd's on the SA-10 win. Of course it derpends on the table, cartridge preamp etc. but I've compared and used many. Anyway please don't get me wrong I love Van Halen. 0U812 is my favourite! Rock on Frank!

Yes.... sometimes. I'm not into modern record variants (colors). But I do collect various pressings of the same album from different eras, countries, etc. Those tend to sound different from each other.
@@Channel33RPM like move the bridge to a different place or make the guitar sound like another guitar 🎸. Seems a little more technical than when I collected Kiss cards.
I didn't think Reckless Love was even around still. Their first 2 albums were great, then I remember they did a total 180 and started doing crappy radio friendly modern rock on their 3rd or 4th album, then they just disappeared and fell off the face of the earth
This album appears to be another 180... in another direction entirely.
Huge disappointment that it's trifold and not a proper box set, with gatefold sleeve and hardcover book. Local price is $240-270 so not for me.
Wish they just came out with the vinyl instead of the deluxe.

Rhino sucks. They effed up that record in the box set and said “that’s how it’s supposed to be.” Meanwhile back at the ranch, they release this with zero freakin problems. Never again.
