What's even cooler and new for the ioniq 6 is that it also uses the cameras to detect empty spots. You can take it to an empty parking lot with no cars and it will still work well. The RSPA in the ioniq 5 and ev6 only use other cars as references using the sensors I believe. As an engineer I can say they spent a LOT of time developing this. Need to be able to track the car's movements with pin drop precision which is insanely hard to do in reality. Lots of respect for the engineering teams in Korea for producing this masterpiece of a car and pricing it reasonably (imo).
It’s also not something I use on a daily basis, because it’s way too slow, but it’s a thing to show off once in a while :D. It does a pretty good job everytime though. Otherwise, the remote forward/backward, I used it for the first genuine need two days ago. The only place available was too tight for me to get out, but the car could fit in. So I remote parked it :-D I wonder if it can also get out of it’s spot ?
Its actually not that hard. You just detect the empty spot via vision, which is pretty easy for marked spots and machine learning helps a lot in this regards. Once you have that the rest is just doing the movement. And because you know every bit of movement you make, you can actually do it without requiring any sight after finding the initial spot.
@@Seitenwerk each of the steps you mentioned is not easy to do reliably in real world conditions. Doing good odometey in real life is very hard with that precision. It is not easy as you say i beg to differ
Just found out a couple of days ago that my new car has this feature. I am trying to gather up courage to try it out. Watching a couple of videos where "car -guys" are rather shaky as they do the same, made me understand that being a bit nervous about it has nothing to do with being over 70 :)
You're a brave man! Thanks for this video. I've had my I6 for a couple days and I can't imagine using this feature, as cool as it is. Maybe there will come a time when I need it, but for now I'll park the old fasiohed way. Great vids - keep 'em coming!
My hubby has a 5 and I'm considering a 6. We tried the regular space auto park and it was so slow that the decided it wasn't worth using. We never tried the parallel parking though. I would totally use that.
I could see this as helpful when there's just a few spaces left that would be too tight to open the door. But I don't know if I'd feel comfortable holding up traffic with it taking this long.
Great Video, I'm on the wait list and the dealer in Nova Scotia did not know this either. I sent your video to him, Your video makes me want the car sooner.
Hey Ed Awesome content, your videos helped me decide to go for the Ioniq 6 🙂. Just wanted to know where you got those orange coloured strips on the side skirts and bumper?
Nice video thanks. We are interested in the trailer hitch that it looks like you had installed. What do you tow? we’re thinking of putting a square hitch on for things like a simple luggage rack.
Check out my ioniq 6 playlist... I detail everything about the hitch in several videos. I also have a playlist about my 40 day cross country trip pulling a camper trailer. Technically the ioniq 6 is not rated to tow anything in North America though. Keep that in mind
I also own a Ioniq 6 since a couple of months here in Germany. I never tried parking like that. But now I will give it a shot. Just because it's freaking cool... Btw... love, that you chose kilometers instead of miles... 😜
If I buy my next EV this will be it for sure! Cool video Mr. Ed. Do you have any videos of you driving this car in auto assist mode? A lot of new car are starting to have this feature now. Most Tesla’s have this feature called auto pilot which is really good on the freeway, it actually makes Tesla’s, I think, one of the safest cars to drive on the freeway. Tesla still is trying to perfect the full self driving option but when they do it will be good!
Thanks for the comment! Hyundais HDA2.0 rivals some of the best systems out there. Check out my drive video here: czcams.com/video/1btHWHZ25aM/video.html
I've been waiting for someone to demo it. Even Hyundai downplays the feature. Yes, we should be able to handle on our own but it's nice to have available. Heck my cheap Ford Focus had it so these pricier cars best have it! HA. Many thanks!
I have been on the fence about buying an Ioniq 6 AWD Limited and finally test drove one today and that put me over the edge. I'm taking my wife to the dealer tomorrow for another test drive, and I'll check that this feature is installed. I know that the car can exit a parking space, but it only moves in a straight line. The sticking point is the wife chooses the color and the dealer only has black right now, and she wants a lighter color. BTW, the Android Auto in the car I drove today was wireless. But the US still doesn't have HUD, even though the Ioniq 5 does. It would be great if they turned the forward facing camera into a dash cam.
@@nickl6362 No, it was standard. I have never used Android Auto and I asked the salesman about it. He enabled it in the test drive car. I asked if it needed a cable, and he said it was wireless. And then it worked, except my phone didn't have much to show on the car's screen. This car was brand new. I was the first to drive it. The steering wheel was still wrapped in plastic, and the body was covered with those static electricity protective sheets.
I think you may be confusing Android auto with something else... None of the ioniq 6 models come with wireless AA. Actually no Hyundai with built in navigation currently comes with wireless AA.
@@edsgarage001 I'm going back today to let my wife see the car, and hopefully put in an order for specific exterior/interior colors, so I'll ask again. But when I asked yesterday, the salesman went through several prompts to allow various accesses on my phone, and then it displayed the name of my phone on the screen. He confirmed it was fully wireless. It seems they've fixed it. It's not terribly important to me, since I've never used AA before, and don't plan to use it much. The one thing I'll try is if the Sirius/XM app works with it. I like to use the On Demand feature which isn't available through the radio.

great video! I haven't seen anyone else demo this. thanks for that. Does the key fob allow you to pull out of a space remotely if someone has parked too close to you?
Thx for the comment! Yes, you can remote start first, then use the buttons to remotely move the car forwards and backwards. I use it more often then I thought I would.
Ya I’d think this is more for safety and insurance reasons. I’d rather need to hold the button myself so if the car seems to be making a mistake I can just let go of the button.
It would probably work better and faster if it wasn't paranoid about the weird, erratic pedestrian walking so close to the car holding a camera and talking.
If you think that, then you probably also ignored the fact that on two of the tests, the weird erratic pedestrian was inside the vehicle, and the result was the same.
I'm the person in the video. Yes I did stop it, but despite that it's still kind of slow. Even if you don't let it stop. It's pretty quick for parallel parking, but for backing in it's slow.
