Have you had a chance to listen to Duffy? Amy is up there with the great jazz sisters for me and I get goosebumps listening to her. ❤
Amy would be glad to hear your respectful and emotional reaction, comparing her voice to Nina’s 💜
Always felt that Amy was a modern day blues and jazz singer. Loved her.
Bought the Frank album at the time - less produced than Ronson, but screams the jazz influences.
Amy was a huge fan of Jazz and blues, she member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra during her youth and as she got older would frequent jazz and blues clubs around London, I think it had a huge influence on her and the music she enjoyed to listen to as well as play ❤️
I love Amy so much how tragic, please please check out the young and humbling ANGELINA JORDAN, you won’t regret it. 🙏🙏RIP🙏🙏AMY♥️🌺🙏
RIP Amy, such a beautiful sensitive artist who unfortunately had lots of mental health issues and got caught up in a weird drug scene in north London. She was from a Jewish very working class London family- her dad was a cab driver who used to play a lot of Sinatra and Billie Holliday to her. She went to a prestigious music school and was part of the national youth jazz orchestra. She was also a great guitarist. I met her briefly when we were neighbours in 2006. Really sweet down to earth person. When she passed I was heartbroken- I still am to this day.
Also this live performance of the song with The Dap Kings is INCREDIBLE. just electric czcams.com/video/ANIKZVKm1Sg/video.html
My condolences for the loss of a friend.🌹
Yeah of course you were
Amy went to Sylvia Young's Theatre school, same school as my son. She was expelled from the school, she clearly knew there was not much they could teach her, clearly she was right. Sylvia Young was also Jewish and would often wave the school fee for exceptional talent, Amy was in that category.
@@thomasmain5986 what’s her being a Jew got anything to do with it
ONLY . ONE . TAKE .
Rest in Peace , Amy . Forever in our hearts .
Amy Winehouse is the perfect example of “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone”. I liked her at the time, but the more time passes, the more I realise what an amazing artist she was.
her style is very unique her style of singing is very difficult most people cannot replicate her
Why would you replicate anything or anyone? Make it your own , muchbetter than being a bad Amy .
I met Amy in a pub in Camden London, she was working in a pub, I was on a 2 day bender. She is completely different to how she was being painted at the time in every tabloid. An extremely nice cool genuine person.
RIP One of the greatest Young singers of a decade 🥺
She was one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. Not decade
It was a monstrous tragedy losing this brilliant artist. I don’t call many singers artists but Amy was a gift. RIP Amy
Wow! is right. Amy is missed, RIP Amy. She’d be 41 this year.
In my opinion, Amy is the greatest British female singer ever. It's like she embodied the spirit of soul music.
Nationality and gender do not matter when it comes to talent of this height. She was simply one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Definately the best before Thw current queen. Amy was the first.
Ooh, not convinced. Dusty Springfield singing Spooky gives me chills like Amy singing back to black. Both were amazing
@saydvoncripps music is intensely personal. So my opinion is exactly that, my opinion. I can fully understand others having their own favourite. But Amy speaks to my soul in a way no-one else has ever.
Amy Winehouse was one of the greatest voices in the last 50 years. So trouble, and it was such a crime she was taken from us. Get all of her recordings - they are incredible and timeless.
Amy was a taste of Modern Rock and Roll. R.I.P. Legend.
Tony Bennett said she was the real deal of old jazz. She did a duet with him. Her idol.
Check Amy out singing "Valerie" live, she is a phenom!!!
Oh and Back to black acoustic is gold as well!!! ❤️
Acoustic! Yes. Thats her in her purest rawest... is that a word? Lol best
Came to say the same. It’s one of my favorite covers
Omg, yes please. Valerie the live Version
Shoutout to The Zutons for Valerie.
She is THE BEST female British singer EVER!!
I wouldn’t go that far….but yes she is very good.
Well thats subjective, but she was definitely up there .
I’d say she’s about the same as Adele (in terms of how good they are). But I prefer Adele, because it’s more nostalgic for me.
Tony Bennett did a session with her. He said, "It's so sad she could've been as good as any of them, Billie, Sarah, Ella, etc"
AW, was up there with the best of them. ( Musicians)🤔. Just my opinion..... Thank you for your reactions 🙏
she was........
And that’s the class, honestly. Ella, Billie, Sarah. Tony knows that so it’s major for hm to say so, but I mean you could tell in 15 sec so
I miss her music 😭😭
He said she sounded like Dinah Washington
Such and old soul voice in a mega talented but troubled young lady. I adore Amy. Her acoustic version of 'Valerie' is incredible. Such a loss to music. Her duets with Tony Bennett are awesome too.
She nailed Valerie
I concur! The acoustic live version.

@@jamesgirard4463 Agreed!
RIP Amy, our beautiful Camden angel.
She sings with her soul.
Truly a once in a generation talent. But heavy is the head that wears the crown.
Everything she sung was stunning. Love her, cried when she passed - such a tragedy 😢
Her phrasing is wonderful.
One of the very very best ..vocals ..man or women of all time ...Amy Winehouse ..a true true natural talent....then now and always !! ❤❤❤❤❤
"Singing in slow motion" - what a wonderful turn of phrase. Perfect.
Close your eyes, and imagine Amy on a small stage in a jazz club, in the 20's, no-one else on stage, spotlight on her, this is where I feel she belongs. A beautiful, tortured soul.
Any Winehouse was a generational voice. What a shame she didn't have better influences in her life. Would have been fun to experience her for 20 or 30 more years.
Many generations 😢
And, a pERSON died, not only an artist. From all accounts she was a loyal, kind, sweet person. She deserved better. RIP
Amy was horribly exploited. She just wanted to make music. Fame destroyed her. And yeah. Bad people in her life. She was a raw open nerve to the world around her. So sad the price paid so often for great art....we cherish what she left behind.
Just an everyday kid with an extraordinary gift.
Jane H commenting …. Amy Winehouse was a petite girl with the most wonderful, unique voice. She co-wrote most of her songs, & some were based on her own life. She had the most incredible career ahead of her. It’s just so tragic that she passed at just 27 years old of an accidental drug overdose. The music world certainly lost someone very special.
I love that you love her - that you recognize good quality. She is a unique singer and poet 💫
You can tell she loved the Shangrilas
And the Ronettes.
She was such an incredible talent i just wish she loved herself half as much as we loved her ❤
true x
Absolutely true, you summarised her life in one sentence ❤
My favourite part of the video is her voice. It's all soul, no artifice.
Back to black she is mourning him missing in her life as though he died.
"Black" is her word for depression, alcohol abuse, etc.
She wrote this song with the fantastic Mark Ronson.
If this is your first time listening to Amy, you HAVE to check out more of her stuff. One of kind, she was. 🖤
What's your favorite song from her? Yes, this was my first time hearing her voice. I'd heard of her before though.
@@poloreacts27 You Know I'm No Good
@@poloreacts27 idk if I can pick a favorite but check out her singing "Valerie" acoustic. She's just sitting on a couch with a microphone and it's definitely one of my favs. 🔥☺️
@@poloreacts27 VALERIE acoustic is GOLD!
@@poloreacts27 listen to her version of Will you still love me tomorrow. It’s beautiful.
Amy is so sadly missed. She sang from her heart and soul. Love her music.
She's deeply missed. Good thing I knew and appreciated her music while she was still alive and on top.
The great Amy. Beautiful voice - one in a million, and yes, the Nina Simone comparison is a good one, as is the "singing in slow motion" description. Sadly, a member of the "27 Club" - she never reached their 28th birthday. There is a terrific documentary about her simply called "Amy", which is partly uplifting and partly devastatingly sad - she was a restless troubled spirit. Here's to you, Amy, from a fellow Barnet kid - RIP.
Check out Angelina Jordan. She also has a voice like Nina/Billie/Amy. She covered this song when she was 10 years old, live and had to read the lyrics but still crushed it. Her voice is not quite as deep as Amy's here as she was 10 but she can hit it now czcams.com/video/ICY1uJe15cM/video.html
She also did Valerie at 12 years old czcams.com/video/sqmJLkgk2Ik/video.html
I get chills listening to Angelina just like I do when I hear Amy
Rm Andromeda Does she write her own songs though? That's to me a big part of Amy too, the songs came from her heart, it was her story.
@@teijaflink2226 She has written 5 songs but she is only 16 years old. One of them was about her heartbreak after her grandfather died. She is amazing, as was Amy
Awww I’m so glad you mentioned Nina Simone!!! I could never put my finger on it … she is so giving me some Nina vibes!!! Amy was a real one tho her voice!!!!😢😊 RIP
An unbelievable talent. She has this cockney irratic talking voice but when she sings OMG she transforms into this soulful old school jazz singer. 😍 SO smooth.❤ Amy
Amy Winehouse is the most recent member of what is known as the 27 Club; artists who died at that age. For a couple of years before her death, she would voice a pessimistic fatalistic fear that she was going to join that club. And she did.
Amy was one of a kind reminds me of Janis not voice wise but inner pain wise ,both Unforgetable and timeless
I'm so jealous you can discover her music for very first time. I'm in love since 2007.
I just discovered her RN, do you have any recommendations? So far i love this song, and stronger than me.
@@peeoncarl6 oh, sure. Stronger than me is for Frank album, this is her first. Her second album, Back to black is obviously her most famous and emotional album. And the third album, Lioness: hidden treasure. You can find here original Tears dry version.
@@peeoncarl6 this third album was released after her death.
@@peeoncarl6 if you want live performances you should start looking from end of 2006 and beginning of 2007 till August. Later she was still awesome, but not in good shape, so for begging that will be great. From Frank album you can also find some great performances in 2004. She had great gig in church in 2006, this was brilliant
Poor Amy Winehouse, Back to Black is a great album however her first album FRANK IS truly a fantastic bombastic BAD BOY album. I saw Amy in the Bush Theatre in Shepards Bush London in 2003 and there were only 250-300 people and Amy played all of her first album. She is hands down is a classic stylish artist not because she passed away but her voice, songwriting talents. At that time I would always play her music in my car, my friends would say "switch that off and put some hip hop or whatever" I said NO I'm playing Amy. No one knew who she was because she was out of the limelight. 2nd album came and the problems started, media hooked onto her unfortunatly she was taken far FAR too early
Peace

👍🤜🏽
Beautiful woman from North London, I've always loved her. Love her and miss her.
Beautiful artist. The back to black album really encapsulates the pain she felt. Very heartfelt and real. Her first album "Frank" is my favorite. More cheeky, a little less emotionally raw. They both have very different feels. Regardless, she was phenomenal and relatable.
There is no artist in the 21st century who has even scratched the surface of her talent. RIP Amy
Really, as they say in Pulp Fiction, “that’s a bold statement…” This will change your mind:

@@ben-schulman Most of what you sent are covers of songs from the 20th century. Also, name an artist from the 21st century who had better lyricism than Amy.
@@ilovemusic5558 I think I already did. Listen, everybody likes the artist they like. My point was simply that it is silly to think the one you or me like best is the GOAT. What is true is that, in spite of the many phenomenal artists out there, there are only a handful of truly elite, special artists currently active today. These are artists like Floor Jansen, Lara Fabian, Angela Jordan, and Beth Hart. Would Amy have fit into that group? Probably, but death at an early age means your discography is limited to 2 studio albums, magnified fame, and a lot of unrealized potential. Beth nearly met the exact same fate with rising fame in 1999 and near death from mental illness, drug addiction, and anorexia at age 27. Fortunately, she is such the survivor that she made it through and has produced 13 studio albums and 4 live albums.
Now, what I sent you was 5 performances between 2004 and 2018 to demonstrate her phenomenal vocal power, range, tone, skill, stage presence, musicianship, and song writing talent. Only 2 of the 5 were covers (that's not "most"). She writes her own music and lyrics but is also well known for her studio collaborations with guitarist Joe Bonamassa with whom she produced 3 cover blues and soul cover albums in 2011, 2013, & 2018. (This is also the reason the 2 coves are not from the 21st century--they're classic blues & soul standards).
Because she died early, Amy's career lasted less than a decade. It would have been the same for Beth , who was more of a rock n roller at the time, if she hadn't survived (although not the same level of fame Amy had achieved). After getting booted from Atlantic Records in 2000 (drugs & mental instability), Beth resurrected herself as a big star in Europe (2003-2011) and then again in the US (2012 to present). She has produced 7 #1 Blues albums after the age of 41. Because she survived, Beth's phenomenal talent has continued to evolve and expand from Rock and Blues-Rock, to Blues, R&B, Jazz, and American Ballads. So, it's hard to claim an artist is the greatest in the "21st century" and that no other "has even scratched the surface of her talent" when they have produced little in the way of a discography and had insufficient time to grow, develop, and realized their full potential.
Hopefully, though, apart from AW, you'll see there are a few select living musicians that are simply breath-taking every time they perform. Here's 5 more performances that demonstrate the mind blowing range and talent of BH. Enjoy:
“Mechanical Heart” (from ‘Live in Inas Nacht’ in Hamburg, Germany, Sept 2022; original song about her husband): czcams.com/video/ovBwnRhOziQ/video.html
"House of Sin” (original from 2005 Pinkpop Festival in Landgraaf, Netherlands): czcams.com/video/yLv0QuW8hHo/video.html
“Sister Heroine” (from the 2018 Royal Albert Hall concert; about losing an older sister to AIDS): czcams.com/video/uT7_ZPIAoC4/video.html
“Whole Lotta Love” (killer acoustic version of the Zeppelin song in a tiny French radio studio, 2012): czcams.com/video/lUaut2m4YaI/video.html
“Lay Your Hands on Me” (original from the 2004 Paradiso concert; Beth on the keys): czcams.com/video/c68YQrIL4q0/video.html
You clearly don’t know the difference between the 20th and 21st century.
@@ilovemusic5558 I thought I was eminently clear--although Beth had her 1st major label record in AD 1996 (the 20th century), she forged the vast majority of her work post 2000 (the 21st century). Amy was born in 1983 and Beth in 1972. Amy's first album (Frank) was released in 2003 and second (Back to Black) in 2006--both early 2st century as you so astutely observed. Beth's first two albums with Atlantic Records were released in 1996 & 1999. Her career resurrection--the part Amy never got the chance to do--was also in 2003 (also the 21st century) with Leave The Light On. Now, at 50, she's tackled rock n roll's most hallowed ground with her 'Tribute to Led Zeppelin' album released in February 2022 and is not even close to peaking. Clearly way beyond "scratching the surface of (Amy's) talent"...but everybody has an opinion, but it doesn't necessarily mean the opinion comports with the facts.
Right - “so vintage and timeless”, “singing in slow motion”. You are always spot on! This woman in her brief life, imprinted her image on a TIMELESS soundtrack. She is one of my favs of ALL time, even tho of another generation. I look forward to meeting her one day. She’ll be back. Will you be there? I know I sound crazy, but God never lies. I’m serious.
Might I suggest listening to her acoustic… love is a losing game.
Amy was a beautiful and talented soul❤️
She's describing going back to the void of experience
She made her talent seem so effortless. Such a shame she never found the help she needed.
She did have help apparently and rehab…she had bad ongoing bulimia which killed her!
Her family and associates ignored her eating disorder. ED’s are the number one killer of all mental illnesses.
There's not one female artist around nowadays, who can even begin to match Amy's talent!
I really liked your comments on Amy’svoice and lyrics, she was indeed a phenomenal artist. For more of her music, try listening to “Valerie” and “My Tears They Dry on Their Own”.
Tears dry on their own 😕😕
Tears Dry.
Amy loved old jazz music that’s why this song sounds vintage. Just see the film about her Back to black. What a voice, what a talent
She's definitely a great jazz artist
she had a black soul, she had songs like this at 19 year ols, salam raimi her first producer said if youre like this at 18 i cant imagine at 25 and he was right
please listen to her "Frank" album its my fav EVER its a masterpiece she wrote at 19 years of age, its crazy man
she was supernaturally gifted
The musicians on the album were The Dap-Kings, Daptone Records house band. The story goes that Mark Ronson heard Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings & thought the band would be perfect for Amy. He was right, and the rest is history.
They were also perfect for Sharon.
Back to black is not about returning to using substances, in the UK black is worn when you lose someone you love, you're mourning their loss. The video even shows her at a funeral, wearing black.
she was the best singer/songwriter of her generation. Forget Adele. She was the one who could compete with everyone and win. So so sad she died so young.
I agree
Adele would be irrelevant if Amy was still alive
@@Lass1888 This is funny bcz Adele released 21 when Amy was alive n outperformed her albums💀u guys like overrating artist after they've passed away
I doubt you've NEVER heard Amy Winehouse before. Like that seems impossible to me
Rip Amy she was ahead of her time and so underrated
Amy was a total legend. I was lucky enough to see her performing live in Punchestown Ireland. She was a Queen. ❤
This is a classic- The WHOLE album you can play from 1st to the last track. Its an eery heartwrenching beautiful song. she exposed her soul ..I get the same reaction each and every time I hear this song.. So sad and tragic.. A unique talent she was
Oh how I miss Amy! Frank is one of the best debuts ever! Her voice and music is timeless 🖤🖤🖤🖤
you nailed the definition of this song she was such a tortured soul at such a young age RIP Amy, well done mate✌🏼🇦🇺🥺
She sounds like the women on my fathers old 78’s the first records ever made! Like 1930’s/40’s
Her voice exactly matches her image. She is a classic, old school, songstress.
Welcome to the world's Amy Winehouse. It's so beautiful. The comparison with Nina Simone is very apt, it is the magic of Soul.
He's right i never heard anyone describe her voice like that
British classic. She was such a unique figure
She was amazing she wore her hair and makeup like we did in the 60s
RIP Amy. I feel the song is mourning the end of the relationship & she goes back to feeling depressed & dead inside. Poor woman 😢
She's up there with Dusty as one of our greatest female vocalists
Check out her song Rehab!
I LOVED her…. She is missed😢
Damn I almost forgot how incredible she was
I am a die hard Jimi Hendrix fan and I loved Nirvana in my teens, She is still, by far, the most talented member of the 27 club. Such a sad ending.
fuck yah😓
Don't forget janis joplin tho!!
jim morrison deserves mention here
That’s a stretch
Nah not really. Amy was the singer, writer, and instrumentalist for most of her songs.
Amazing how hypnotizing the pendulum is to the beat of the song .
The best female vocalist of our generation ❤❤❤❤❤❤ never to be forgotten
sit down
I love Amy Winehouse!
I remember years ago a friend of mine showed me “ Valerie” and I felt instantly in love, not only with her voice but also with the soul within her voice. I asked him: who is she?
He said: Amy winehouse. She died a couple of years ago.
I can’t really or precisely explain it but when he said that I got a feeling like something really precious was some how stolen from the world.
Just like Janis Joplin..
Some people get really popular and famous because they’re genuinely great. Amy was one of those people. Such a loss for our generation, but at least we have 2 amazing albums.
The side piece he went off to was his addictions and it through her into her own addictions. This song is so tragically beautiful and one of my favorite Amy jams
Valerie was the secret code for Blake civil fielder who was the love of her life , when she say’s across the water she mean’s across the Thames .
She is singing about there secret love they had after he left her for someone else to
Have been waiting for this- finally! please check out her song Valerie.
Her cover version of The Zuton's song Valerie.
☮️💙💙💙🔥rest Amy!
Rep all them that passed!
Love chef!/chefs!
You know who you are!
Act like you know!
Every Amy Winehouse song has a meaning if she is singing solo , In this song i believe she is talking about gambling with her own life.
Can’t say enough about how I love this woman. She composed and wrote everything she ever did. This song was not co-written. Amy wrote all her music. She was brilliant. She had such a tumultuous life. Died at 27. Rest in Peace, Amy. She is for the ages. She’s been compared to the famous Billie Holiday. Listen to her. Amy is as good if not better. Which says something.
Please watch the documentary “Amy” from 2017. I won the Academy award for best documentary that year. It is outstanding.
This song was co written with Mark Ronson. It says so in the sleeve notes of the album.
@@pobstrelhe helped her refine it for the radio but she wrote the song on her own in an hour. She was a genius.
If you like this lady you will love Angalina Jordan at the age of 6 she wone Norways got talent . She is a jaz singer best to start at the beginning as her talent is extrordenary. Thank you for all the memories ❤️
North London will never be the same without Amy. Sadly when I used to see this darling, fragile little angel tottering round Camden like a 60's legend charmingly asking people to get her a cup of tea or cheekily poncing a fag off someone I somehow knew we wouldn't have her with us for long, she charmed the pants off of everyone she came into contact with and what we all experienced with her was unforgettable, and I know I speak for a lot of people round our area when I say our lives will never be as interesting or enriched without these precious little interactions. RIP Amy you were without doubt one of a kind, the likes of whom will never to be seen again.
Sadly the brightest stars usually burn out too quick. She surely left a long lasting legacy in the short time we had her 👏 rest in peace Amy 🙏
You're the man POLO 👍
Billie Holiday was the first singer to truly redefine 'jazz' when she brought these
sensual, 'breathy', 'whisper-like' responses that had never been done before. Then,
years later, the 'jazz' genre was redefined again in a much more radical way by
Amy Winehouse who would apply 'slurring' of words as well as mid sentence 'key'
changes. Today, we have a young jazz singer who has adopted both Billie's and
Amy's style and that person is Angelina Jordan who is, without a doubt, the reigning
'Queen Of Jazz', singing the genre with the most intricate, complex style ever done.
just you wait until you listen to the whole album ...its unforgettable
I liked your reaction to Amy , she was such a beautifully troubled soul and I miss her 🥀 Please react to "My Tears Dry On Their Own" by her, it's my favourite along with Valerie.
Yes that song is an amazing song and it has been there to lift me up so many times
Monkey man/ and cherry are amazing tunes
The angel of Camden. Always missed.
Haunting.
