Its turned on by default and it was hard for me to even find the setting. The average person wont even know about this being in the game so doing any of these emotes is useless

I’m just annoyed by Laugh It Up’s sound (especially since it overlaps), that’s it
Plus I’m still pissed at the Locker UI and the restrictiveness of the peripherals in Festival (only some Rock Band 4 Instruments and the Riffmaster*) [I just feel bad for veterans]

If we could whitelist and blacklist certain emotes, I would personally only add laugh it up just because of the sound. It gets tiring after hearing for 4+ years straight
We used to get dev updates communicating with the community back in 2017 and 2018 and most of the comments were positive cause they where making the right changes and actually listening. But now they wont communicate cause they know there making bad changes but they dont care.
Just like every other game company and all the communities on those games are all complaining as well😓
Where cooked most game companies know that people will complain but still play and make money so they don't care

It’s an optional setting that if you don’t like you can disable.
Some people would like to play and enjoy the game without dealing with toxic or rude environments when they’re just trying to have fun.

I’ve seen a lot of people calling this change soft and stuff like that but I’m just like, it doesn’t effect you? YOU can still do the emotes. YOU can still be as toxic as you want. The only people this change effects are those who don’t wanna see it. And if you’re that upset that somebody else doesn’t wanna see your toxicity, I think you really need to accept who the real soft ones are here.

Seeing how it's literally just an optional setting that can help prevent toxicity, I don't see how having this as an option is a bad thing. I don't get how being toxic or promoting toxicity is a good thing, like none of the emotes really bother me but I'd still rather keep the setting on. To me (and a lot of others probably) this is a really good change and I'm glad they added it. It's less-so about being soft, and moreso about just wanting to chill and enjoy myself.
Why make toxic emotes in the first place at that point?

It's weird that the anger here comes from other people not being able to see you hit an annoying ass emote. I was upset when they were censoring skins for certain modes but that was a situation where you couldn't see your own cosmetics, and in this case it doesn't affect you whatsoever. I'm actually going to use this feature not because it hurts my feelings when someone hits one of these emotes, but because it's a quality of life improvement to not hear one of five emotes every time an 8 year old clips me. It's like turning off controller rumble, I don't like this thing, so I won't deal with it. Simple as.
I swear they have a hard on for making the community pissed off at every unnecessary change they make. It's been FOUR months since they claimed they were reworking the UI. It's insane how we still never heard any updates on that.
You do know what goes into making a ui right?
They have to find what the community hates and likes.
Build a new one from the ground up
Make sure it’s not buggy
Make sure it doesn’t have the things players disliked.
What I really hate about this change is that they block the emote by default, meaning they actually took away that choice from us. “Players can choose not to see” is dishonest wording, what they really mean is “players can CHOOSE TO SEE these emotes”. and they don’t even mention it when you turn the game on, so players gameplay experience is being censored without them even knowing (not everybody follows tweets and news). Also LOL at then being concerned about “confrontational” emotes in a game where you gun your opponents down.
They also added a unneeded vibration when you go overdrive on controller or your teammate does and you can’t turn it off
i think it's more about how annoying the emotes are and not the toxicity. it's how they are overused and how annoying they are. it's the reason why people hate the griddy emote as well. personally i hate the sounds not just because of the emote in general. ps i do agree that it was somewhat of a pointless change since it only fixs a small problem for some and not the most of the community.

I remember when back in ch1s3 I was a complete noob and a rust lord killed me and then did the “take the L” dance. You know what my reaction was? Laughter.
It’s not that serious. It’s just fun emotes and friendly teasing. It’s not toxic or “confrontational”. If someone takes offense to harmless emotes then they need to stop playing Fortnite and go play something else like fall guys
They avoid the friends list that keeps bringing you to the top every time when your looking for someone

I think it's a W if it was defaulted off. I know some people would throw controllers for the littlest thing and also maybe for little kids too since they typically copy toxic behavior from games to real life for some reason.

I don't think the locker and rarity system isn't that bad, especially to the point where you stop playing the game. I mean, it's a locker.
They've been censoring emotes, cosmetic, jamtracks, musicpacks etc. for a long time now. This isn't censoring. They're just giving us the option to not have to see other people being toxic.

Controversial opinion but I kinda like this idea. If I’m getting a little heated in Fortnite the last thing I want to see is some kid wearing Travis Scott who hasn’t touched grass in 7 years take the L on me. I don’t want to rage at games and these emotes just put a sour taste in my mouth.

We havent had any news about the locker UI, we havent had any news about rarities. It rlly pisses me off that epic makes these pointless changes instead of focusing on what the community wants. 2 things. First it is NOT a change, it is an option. You do not have to use it, if you do not like it. Second, I want to play Fortnite to relax, not to get take the L'd by superhero skins in complete black colors. Yes I do get angry by that, who didn't get angry when you have good loot and get sweat down by these skins and get take the L'd on after that. Especially in creative it is really annoiying because everyone does it. You may call me weak or soft, I do not care, I just wanna play the game and have a fun time, and that's it.

I've watched I Talk for a while, and usually agree with his takes, but I don't get the logic of going "toxicity is bad because it hurts people's feelings," and getting so upset about the locker UI, while also going "an optional setting to block certain things that hurts people's feelings is for really soft people and is bad." By all means, the option should be made more easy to find and not be set to "only for party members" by default, but its general presence is OPTIONAL, which makes it less intrusive than the locker UI.

Take The L is such an old battle pass emote(c1s3), so it wasn't that big of a problem that it needed hiding. I started playing in c2s4 and I legit haven't seen a single player that used it.
Laugh It Up is annoying, but it hasn't been in the shop for nearly 2 years and I can't say I've seen it use much since.

Honesty it’s super cool to see that a large content creator like you can be super honest about the game. Like I barely see anyone with a million subscribers (or even 100k) be completely transparent about their feelings towards these decisions.

I mean, it’s an optional setting. It being on by default is stupid but having it as an option is something I can’t really complain about. If the rarity change was optional I’m sure the community would have far fewer complaints and I think Fortnite should give us options when they make ‘controversial’ changes. Ofc something like the movement change at the start of the chapter wouldn’t be able to be toggled on and off, but stuff like the UI changes should be a setting. They could even use this experimentation to track how many players are using these settings to see the general consensus

Yes they do when it was perfectly fine before..I could put my wrap and emotes to match the whole skin combo..Now i need to select them one by one and it's pure trash...Yes cosmetics are just esthetics but as in real life cosmetics cost money..Removing ratites just made it hard to know what price the items will have and for u to save the v-bucks indirectly making u to buy more v-bucks..Also some skins can be released as scams..Ex: The new festival skins (like the concert ones, the astronauts) are 1500 each and come with no backpling..even more the backpling is sold separately..How can that with no wow styles or customization and no backpling be the same price as let's say Wrap skins or Spray skins or even Super hero skins (i know the heroes are 1800)..The point is they can sell low effort skins at a higher price easily..

To be fair, the community can be quite toxic, but I can also see the point that we should all have thicker skin. Rather that switching off emotes like this, it would be better to create emotes that are more positive and show respect to your opponent. I usually flash a GG when I eliminate someone as it encourages a better atmosphere. You also have to remember how young some players are... one thing I wish I could switching off is the tick tok dance emote songs as hearing them all the time does my head in 😂.
As someone from League, this is very funny to me. Also people will just do other things to BM like tea-bagging and other things

Honestly I don't get the discourse about this. Most adults I play with would rather NOT hear the Donkey Laugh after a superhero skin kills them. It's optional, what's the problem? Saying "You wouldn't survive in an MW2 Lobby" isn't the point. You'd survive if you went to a restaurant that was playing Fred 2: Night of The Living Fred at full volume, but you'd probably prefer to go to a restaurant that WASN'T doing that. And if you're not playing the game because the UI is annoying, you're just as bad as the people you're calling soft!
But but italk and his 7 year olds can't use their annoying emotes anymore for people who have it on

Ever since they got rid of rarities, they think they can do whatever they want 😭. Each change is destroying the game more and more.
I'm on Xbox One and I can't see skins sometimes. My friend (who plays on PC) Can see ppl who kill us as skins while I see them as defaults. Another friend of mine plays on Xbox Series S, and it's the same thing 😂
That's because you play on older hardware, so the game can't handle loading the skins. I play on an Xbox Series X, and i see the skins of the opponents

Here are some decent replacements for take the L and laugh it up. Take the elf (obviously) and mwahaha. Probably never using take the L and laugh it up anymore since majority will not even see it.
If this is turned on by default, I would expect refunds to be in order because there has to be some kind of law to deter this.

Honestly if someone kills you in Fortnite, they are more likely going to do the griddy on you than any of these 4 emotes.
I’m ok with this setting being added only because in clash royale 👑 you could mute 🚫emotes as well, so it’s just optional, you could still do your take the L dance 🕺

Keep in mind I was absolutely livid when they started banning certain skins from certain experiences. I know the official term is “restrict”, but same difference.
At least we can still use these emotes. At least it’s optional now.
Of all the changes they made in this chapter, this and the movement change are the only ones I agree with
