Star Citizen is an Open Development Alpha Project by Cloud Imperium. It is 2 Games really though, the Persistent Universe that aims to build a First Person MMO Space Sim that encompasses gameplay in ship & on ground, economy and pretty much anything else you can think of. It's built in the StarEngine (a modified Lumberyard Engine). You'll see massive Space Ships that you can fly with friends, land on planets, explore or whatever your way to whatever goal you choose. It's available to try in it's current Alpha State now, you can give feedback & influence the direction of the game BUT it is VERY ALPHA.
Squadron 42 is the Single Player Campaign of Star Citizen & the Spiritual Successor of Wing Commander. The Idea is the game is immersive, cinematic, beautiful & seamless... NO LOADING SCREENS once in game.
Both Games are currently in the Alpha of their development.
I am suspecting to see something more mainstream for Star Citizen's PU by the end of 2024 with permanent progression, though it will be a while after that before the game is considered "feature complete" which would be closer to 2025 in my opinion.
The are no dates for Squadron 42's Release Yet BUT it is now Feature Complete.
I am an Independent Content Creator & Star Citizen Fan. I am not paid by Cloud Imperium HOWEVER I am an Evocati Member and as such I am under an NDA for Closed Early Patch Tests of Star Citizen', known as the Evocati Test Flight (ETF). @@tadpoletwitch1258 I'd actually take that bet - I think early Feb for evocati, as I think that's the longest PR runway they have for the hype they'll create at CitCon. Plus, evocati has a much lower bar for release, and will let them extend that runway
Not really it’s almost alll been shown in game and played by somebody in the community
4.0 will come when 4.0 comes. Be patient.
There’s still a LOT of features completely missing for a “1.0” version:
-pizza/noodles
-escape pods
-bounty hunter captives/holding
-whatever the 400i’s climate control storage is for
-Bathroom mechanics
-Pathfinding/Exploration gameplay
-merchant ships?
Exploration is the only relevant feature on your list. Bountyhunting is close second but we have kind of gameplayloop for it already.
ah, and don't forget about:
- working contracts
- meaningful standing system
- meaningful criminal system
- a bounty hunter system that makes sense
- death of a spaceman (lol)
- multiple star systems
- meaningful multi crew that isn't boring af
- any kind of solution that allows more than 30 players without massive lag (server meshing meme)
- and A LOT of other stuff
Otherwise it wouldn't even come close to justifying the insane amount of money they already burned on the development.

Yeah. All the star citizens videos are about 4.0 and i keep going, yes sure but wtf happened to the 3,23 patch. It is only out in name only not in content the one thing that matters. 4.0 will lunch with a single poster you can use in the new personal hangar comming 2025.
@@_aurora_2086 Didn't CIG plan to release a major patch EACH quarter, before they fumbled 1st quarter? Last i remember 4.0 was supposed to be 2nd quarter.
Have we not learned? 4.0 is coming, sure, but with everything 4.0 needs, if 3.23.2 isn't already out the door, we won't be seeing 4.0 until probably April of next year.
My reasoning: the delay for 3.23.2 is going to push 4.0 back past CitCon. There will be TONS of hype out of CitCon, and they're going to push and push to have it done by December, but we all have seen how that goes. So, I don't think it makes Evocati until early Feb, and then there will be tons of noise and questions about why it isn't in the PTU through Feb and March, and then we might see PTU late march, live mid April

@@blaqbastion1501CIG definitely has a lot of influence over what these guys say about them. Like they’ll provide them for scoops and access to help them get views but in exchange they can’t go too far with the negativity. It’s kinda like those back room deals amongst the media and politicians, corporations, etc.

@@DiscoBiki can you 100% guarantee it isn't? until we hear either way from the horses mouth you cant say it isn't and people cant say it is.. however judging by the progress made it looks more likely... that they can achieve their window for goals set, as long as the issues are fixed before the release of the next patch or integrate the fixes in the next patch

I try to not get excited for releases as there are so many delays. But it still hurts. I admire BoredGamers ability to maintain his excitement over the years.
Honestly same. I'm so burned out from trying to justify CIG at this point.
I'm hoping that 3.23.2 is just waiting for 3.23.1a to clear rather than it having a bunch of its own big issues.

Dude, I'll take some bugs. Just let it release - after missing the original 3.23 launch window, and now being delayed multiple times - with no hangar related bugs. I can work around most bugs in the game. Can't really work around not being able to get your ship to show up.

Jumped on today and exploded when dropping from NAV speed to SCM. This needs to be sorted asap, all the prep for gear, ship, vehicles etc to blow up going to do a mission 😢

@@DiscoBiki I do like some changes but they have a lot of little tweaks to do to make it playable. Weirdly the free fly was when it was running best for me. Not a single server issue.
Honestly the cargo update is so huge I understand how it's more complicated than originally thought. This touches so many different aspects of the game. The only major back end technology change we're still waiting on after this that touches on so much of the game is Quanta system.
CIG needs to get this feature out. The amount of delays and bait and switch with fleet week, Xeno threat, other ships is beyond frustrating.
I'm curious how ships like Carrack, Reclaimer and others will be manually loaded & unloaded with cargo.

i can't belive there even talking about 1.0, can't rebind controls properly, community very split on MM, no real mission lines or multi step mission out side of events, server meshing, no pyro, no enginering, no atmo FM rework, ect ect ect like wtf are they talking about 1.0 for
remember when we were told they were right there at the finish line and could ship it right now but needed just a little more time to iron a few things out? it was coming real soon then too.

...But they didn't tell the people who backed the race that they fielded a tortoise. And the tortoise has 20lb weights attached to it's legs. And ADHD. And parts of the tortoise's shell keep getting swapped out because some of it's handlers can't agree on what works best. And some of the tortoise's key features are still placeholders. And it's having a bit of trouble walking now, because some of the handlers decided the tortoise's overall speed was a *little* too fast for what the track could handle.
But right there! Right at the finish line!
I really have so little compassion left for CIG timeline slipping. I was at last citcon live when they announced all he things "coming in the next year" and no one appreciated my laugh out loud at the time. But I was right to be skeptical. Shameful and dishonest. I do not believe that CIG believes their timelines anymore.

Still no news on the dupers fix? I'm starting to worry that we are going to have to see a full wipe soon.
In the end we are going to need to. Servers haven't been this bad since 3.18 when they had to do the full wipe with 3.18.1 to wipe the database because it was affecting the backend. I know they are avoiding a full wipe because they want people to have their AUEC ships for Xeno but it may be more practical to scale back Xenothreat and fix the issues plaguing the server. They have already backtracked on their partial wipe promise so do what needs to be done especially with the duper issue this patch cycle.
yeah its so crazy theyve let this bug be in the game for this long. its ruined so many parts of the game. savage is now such a waste of time. the best cargo run is now usless and bc almost noone is running rmc pirating is dead. litraly like half the game is unplayable.
@atonyharding dupers ain't a problem....the problem is literally 1000s of NPCs and shit spawning inside planet meshes, have you not fell through the floor recently and seen them all piled up underneath the surface of planets at crash sites, outposts ect. They need to implement a kill barrier for anything that's 5 metres under the floor because it's absolutely ridiculous when you see how many npcs are spawning underground haha
@jacobdoughty3528 The dupe is part of what is causing that issue. I have seen plenty of dupers trying to defend it. Sorry, I do not, and it is technically against TOS. That said, all it's going to do is lead to another full wipe because now they need to clean up the backend and database again like they did after 3.18. Defend what you will, but the massive amounts of abandoned C2s are the biggest part of the issue right now. It is possible to sell without losing your cargo grid I have been doing it the whole patch cycle, go to Orison land in a hanger do not store your ship run and sell then run back to your ship. I have only lost my grid once this cycle, and that came from storing the ship. I took it out to an astroid belt and blew it up. There are some stating they have no choice but to dupe that is a lie.
@atonyharding no it's not it's because hundreds of NPCS are spawning in planets lol, how is someone duping at a city making NPCs spawn in the literal hundreds under the ground at outposts? The dupers ain't that big of a problem all their doing is leaving c2s about that's it
Man the idea that a 1.0 release version of Star Citizen might be just over the horizon makes me kind of giddy and makes me hopeful for its post launch support. For example a ground forces update would be a dream come true. While there are some ground vehicles in game that fill some roles i feel as were missing an IFV (Bradly or BMP).

As a new player though, what is “Alien Week”?
you know, maybe release a patch to fix the issue keeping people from playing on live, then maybe release cargo and what not later. I would love to play again.
Are we able on the patch, to takr out ship components for salvage? And do we need to unload the items/ salvage boxes on the loading dock to have it in the planets' inventory? Or can we still sell straight from the ship like we do now?
Is there any reason to get the mk.I besides just having it? Are the mk iis just straight up better?
The stunt bike looks cool. It would be nice to have something bike size that can survive being dropped/falling more than like 10 meters.
All I want for Alien Week is a new heavy fighter (or soloable gunship) with a living space. Even if its concept. I feel like there's Tevarrin, Banu, and Mirai options so open for them to fill in. I mean its weird that the birdfolk jump from a light fighter to a dropship with nothing inbetween. And having another Banu option means they have a couple options to get assets for the BMM.
my main hope for the new patch is that they also found a way to reduce the triggering of the new server recovery a little. It can already turn into a big test of patience while playing just normal PU stuff right now. So i really wouldnt want to attempt a 1-2 hours long event with that as is
I'm really looking forward to my ships and vehicles all being in the same place so that I can finally apply everything all at once after a patch.
Boarding an Idris in a combat situation should be some good fun.
Hopefully they'll get Cargo online sooner rather than later, we need it.
As physicalized inventory goes, I have a fear that it will make inventory management more cumbersome, albeit more realistic. I am cautiously optimistic that it will not actually make the game worse.
CIG has perfected the art and science of delay.
Persistent cargo would help in so many other game loops, I've been tempted to hold off playing any.
think of it, having one corner of the cargo grid you can store all the gear and components needed for differemt bounty or merc missions, rescue, stealth, a bunker raid box, just grab and go!
I'm honestly surprised the new patch is not out yet.

No way they're going to have 1.0 after alpha 4.0. We don't even have working NPC's yet, really hope they stick to alpha longer.

3.23.1a has definitely been taking longer than expected… looking forward to it finally coming out on Live servers.
I don't mind the ship releases being slower and slowing down even more.
Some variants in the mean while are good enough.
Getting the Polaris out would be a huge milestone.
Further I really hope they put some extra focus on getting ships to gold standard.
600i, Conny, carrack, Caterpillar, Nox, ... There's a lot of ships in a questionable state
I am hopeful that we see a clean update to Alpha 4.0.
I'm really holding out hope for a surprise release of the Hull B alongside the new cargo changes. I really enjoy the cargo trading route and I think the Hull B is like...such a good ship for it
I hope Xenothreat is substantially better and more fleshed out because not many people really care about it. It definitely shouldn't be worked on as priority over 3.23.2
Better for them to iron it out as much as they can rather than releasing it in a broken state so i don't mind the delay that much as long as the end result is a better patch

I would be expecting the patch to drop with Alien week with Xenothreat, it would be a good chance and bit more time to fix the issues.

Yeah delays are exactly uncommon, I just hope it comes soon because I really would like to salvage without taking all the extra risks I do. I usually throw all the salvage out the back of my vulture right before I finish, show up with a corsair pick up all of the boxes then salvage the components and weapons then come back with my vulture to finish it off.
I really hope they fix the NPCs being able to shoot you in armistice zones. Its....problematic.

The Mk1 are supposed to be very old ships. It's know abandoned ships will degrade and decay. There's chances to see a lot of these Mk1 ships as derelicts as the basic stuff for salvaging.

I'm curious what the current blockers are for the hangar/cargo updates. And a lot of people are concerned if 4.0 is releasing this year, but that's reliant on very different tech. Also really glad I went through the ODI event before Master Modes

It doesn’t bother me that they delayed it I’m used to it but what does bother me is they put out update and get a lot of attention from big streamers who’s audience isn’t used to the delays and it turns a lot of new players away and that’s just sucks

Regardless of the delays, every time I take a little break from SC, and come back, I can't help but have a ton of fun. Sure, it's getting a little much with the wait here now, but I guess I'm still just holding on to the hopes for a dream space game to become a reality. Cheers for the info.
