    Hi just to clarify as a beginner knitter for a jumper when the instructions say decrease three stitches at the beginning of each alternate row to shape the armholes. Does it mean I cast off at the beginning of every second row? If I do this it may be something I am doing wrong. Would you kindly please explain how I can cast off the first 3 stitches at the beginning of each alternative row. Thank you. Excellent tutorial too.

      I appreciate your feedback Nena. I produce these videos for the courses that I run in Southampton but it's very pleasing to know that others are watching and learning from them.

    So what is the difference between this technique and Slip slip knit (SSK)?

    Your video is very helpful. I have a question. On the pattern I am using at home it says to decrease one at the end of each row for the next five rows. And THEN it says to decrease one on each end of the next three alternate rows. So I get the alternate rows instruction, I'm just wanting it made clear to me that I am to decrease one on each knit and pearl row when it speaks of the "next five rows."

      Hi there, thank you for your comment. I was quoting from the pattern. I haven't made many videos this year as I have been working but I will make some more as soon as I can. I will remember to explain the terminology of a pattern in different ways as we all have different interpretations of the instructions. Hopefully then I can help every subscriber and viewer of my videos.

      @lonafryatt4126 Před 6 lety +6

      Hello Nina, it's no bother, I am pleased that you are using my videos.The instructions for this video are to decrease 1 stitch at each end of the next and 3 following alternate rows (you will reduce the number of stitches by 8). In English, alternate means "every other" or "every second" row. To simplify my instructions:
      Next row Knit and decrease 1 stitch at each end (follow my video for this);
      Next row Purl;
      Next row Knit and decrease 1 stitch at each end (this is your 1st alternate row); Next row Purl;
      Next row Knit and decrease 1 stitch (this is your 2nd alternate row);
      Next row Purl;
      Next row Knit and decrease 1 stitch (this is your 3rd alternate row).
      If you need any further clarification please write again.
      Good luck and best wishes. Lona

    You say cast off! But do you mean decrease? Your videos when showing are a bit too fast i have to repeat it over & over! can you do slower please?
    My pattern says decrease 1 stitch but I've seen some slip 2 then knit tog. Is that OK still too? Thanks for videos. They're very helpful but a bit fast.

    • @lonaslessonsincrochetandkn102
      @lonaslessonsincrochetandkn102 Před 2 lety

      Hi Donna. I would interpret Cast Off as : passing a stitch over the one in front of it and this can be done several times depending on the number of stitches to be cast off. I would interpret decreasing as knitting / purling multiple stitches together. Apologies if you think my videos are too fast, have you gone to the Settings icon (the cog wheel at the bottom of the screen) to slow the video down? Settings / Playback speed / select the speed you want to work with. You can use the Settings to slow down all videos or speed them up. Let me know if you use this and if it helps. Good luck!
