  • Check out the @nexat3192 combine from Agritechnica 2023!
It's a piece of equipment that turned heads at the Farm Progress Show earlier this year, and the huge NEXAT machine did the same this week in Germany at Agritechnica.
NEXAT is a different concept- where one large power unit runs all the major passes on the farm, from seeding and tillage through to harvest, explains Lothar Fliss, from NEXAT.
Avoiding compaction was a huge drive in redesigning cropping operations, Fliss explains, as the NEXAT creates one set of tracks that are used all year.
Huge machines need huge power, and the NEXAT has it. Dual 550 hp engines support capacity and individual electric wheel motor add 200 hp each for movement.
Several of these machines are running in Europe, and as for North America, look for the NEXAT in the Winnipeg, Man., area in 2024, adding to the three machines already in the Dakotas.

As an organic farmer who doesn't use massive machines to do all my work for me, I'd like to see other Canadian farmers growing crops other than wheat, corn, and soy. I call that lazy industrial farming.

Well you can grow what you want but the way I see it until you can make it good for broad acre farmers things like cover crops are not easily feasible. Lazy is not what it is. I don’t want to jump into the next fad while taking all the risk.

As a regular farmer who uses properly sized farm equipment to efficiently grow affordable food, I’d like to see other Canadian farmers accept the fact that there is a place for all forms of production. I call that working together to grow our industry not tear each other down

@@kowalchukfarms you're right, there's definitely room for all sorts of production. However, 90-95% of Ontario farmers are producing 1 of 3 cash crops, wheat, corn, or soy. Blasting their fields with chemical fertilizers and pesticides to produce a crop that will be manufactured into processed foods, depleting the soil, and therefore, the health and longevity of the soil. You all do you, but I still don't support it. As someone who is involved in all steps of production, yes. To me, it does seem like the lazy way to farm crops. When planting, watering, tilling, spraying, and harvesting is all done by a machine, the farmer has basically become a tractor driver and a machinist. Yes, I am aware that it would be impossible to run a successful 50 acre farm without the use of these machines. I'm just not into the mass production of those 3 cash crops and destroying the soil. Obviously, you guys are the majority. I'm just some small scale 5 acre farmer. That's about the maximum I can handle doing everything by hand. In addition, I would like to say that my way of cultivation outperforms the industrial standard of farming. My crops are larger, better tasting, and obviously free of synthetic chemicals.

@@blakekucher6020 you do you, I'm just saying I would like to see some more diversity. Obviously farmers are growing wheat, corn, and soy because that's what large corporations are buying. Can't blame you for it, just not my style.
