Valeton are turning out some high quality and very affordable tools for guitarists lately. The GP-100 has a crazy list of great features (see the link above for the complete list) that players of all styles will likely find a use for. Topped off with a tough, solid build and its small size, you've got a very handy and very capable winner in the GP-100. Bravo.

When - if ever - will we say that we've reached the limits of what software can do? When hardware will become irrelevant? When something like this unit, or the Ampero, will sound as good as (but perhaps not as versatile as) the Fractal AxeFx3? All these units can now model hardware down to electronic component level. It's a great time to be alive and get to play with this gear! Excellent demo as usual, Burgs!

It's incredible how well the latest generation of inexpensive multi-effects pedals can emulate analogue gear. I don't think the Valeton or NUX etc are quite there yet but I agree with you - it seems like we'll be approaching the point of diminishing returns in terms of sound quality pretty soon.
There's still scope for adding more features and esoteric modulation effects, but maybe at the expense of making these devices more complicated to use, or more prone to firmware bugs.
Also as companies like NUX keep adding features to their multi-effects pedals they inevitably eat into the market for their own standalone pedals. For example why would anyone buy a NUX Atlantic (as nice as it is) when the NUX MG-300 has 99% of its features plus a whole bunch of others? But they're kind of in a no-win situation there.
(I'm not sure the Atlantic is the best example, but you get my point...)

The Valeton Coral Series of mini-pedals is great! Most have extra knobs that really make them worthwhile. The Lazaro Fuzz has a bias knob that turns the muff-style into a fuzz-face style with splat and sputter, the Tube Refiner is an OCD clone (runs on 18v) with a bass control. Their Tremolo is smooth and subtle and has a volume control. Their chorus is a four knob with a tone control. Their LA Charger is a plexi pedal, much like a Crunch Box Deluxe but with bass and treb instead of tone and presence.

Cheers Brett, I bought this in the basis of your demo and that of Leo Gibson. Both demo's are excellent.
This unit is excellent even the presets are well thought out. Being able to use the footswitches to enable and disable multiple pedals in the chain is a massive advantage on the Nux MG 300. Couple that with 20 ir slots rather than one and an all metal chassis this is really a killer unit.
On some patches/amps you have to gun the volume on headphones but this is easily done in setting and within the patch it self. Totally I haven't played the Nux so I can't say which sounds better to my ears but to my ears this unit sound great both preset wise and creating your own.
I got this on Amazon Prime Day for £103 which is a great bargin. I'd even go so far to say this is entirely gig worthy.
    Big 👍🏼

Hi Brett, thanks for the run down just picked up one of these little guys for lounge jaming. Plenty of options like the efx amp & cab sims. The volume pedal / wah is tiny but for home it's perfect.
When I can spend more time fine tunning the user and preset running through valve and solid state sounds fine. The option for stomp or patch is really clever and placing the order of efx is another good idea. Just wish the LED screen was bigger but obviously I'm just getting old, Stone Roses Hint hint we used for setup but Carol Loyd Rail Road Jin for packing up.

  • @JayTheLane
    @JayTheLane Před 3 lety +3

I bought this on the basis of this demo and its very decently put together.
The ability to turn off individual effects is fantastic. Tonally it is good, although sometimes you have to crank the master or patch volume. Depended on what headphones or speakers you use individual patches may need a tweak.
Being able to have 20 IR slots of your own makes a big difference unlike the Nux which only has one. The amps and effects are also good with an occasional tweak required to taste.
As stated the build quality is great, the best of the bunch. The stereo line outs are a practical addition.
As an interface directly recording streaming USB wet signal I haven't been able to get a similar sound to the headphones as of yet but I only tried once. But you could take the line outs direct into your interface. I think as an interface the Valeton lacks decent preamps but as I said I need to go over it again and have another try.
The only thing which I'd say need an improvement would be the reverb algorithms, each reverb almost has a predelay echo so that if you palm mute or play clean staccato stabs or single lead lines (I play funk) you can hear it no matter what you do. This is the same with all the different types of reverb, they are decent but need improvement.
Would I buy it again? Yes but I do wish they would improve the reverb.

I've owned and tested, in multiple live situations, all of the different versions of this firmware build (for example, the Mooer GE150 is an exact clone, but with a plastic housing). They all would be outstanding units, were it not for a couple of fatal, deal-breaking flaws that I've had the displeasure of experiencing while in live use. So, yeah...NOT good. The first problem I encountered was that, randomly, on some but not all banks where you build your own preset, the modulation effect will reset itself to maximum level, no matter where you set it when you built the preset. Yeah,I know. Weird! And their support team didn't know how to fix it. Again (let's see if I can explain this better): if you set up a preset with a modulation effect (flanger, let's say), and you set the level to "5", and saved it, here's what might happen on some (butagain, not all) banks -- you'll turn off the unit, and then, when you turn it back on, the level on the flanger for that preset will reset itself to a level of "10". Have you ever hit a pedal in a live performance and had one of the values you thought you set to your preference be COMPLETELY out of whack? Yeah, it sucks.
The second problem I've found is that the expression pedal can NOT be reliably set to any other values than the default of: Min=0%, Max=100%. This sucks because I, personally, lie to set my volume pedals to Min=50%, Max=100%, so that I have a set rhythm volume (Min) and a set lead volume (Max). Easy, right? Well, these pedals don't seem to be able to do that. No matter how I've tried (and again, only on certain banks), it just goes backto factory default.
So anyway, these are things you'll never hear from any of these gear review channels, because odds are, they don't actually use the gear they review enough to find all the practical flaws. What really irked me, though, is that the company's own support team was utterly clueless.
