VIDEO DESCRIPTION
How to draw a realistic eye with stippling, stipples, or dots as a part of learning drawing with a variety of techniques other than scribbling, cross-hatching, hatching, etc. This can be applied to drawing a portrait, the head, facial features, people, the figure , animals, landscape, still life or any other subject. I provide a breakdown of how to outline and shade with stipples in this tutorial. Stippling, unlike other various shading techniques like hatching, cross-hatching, scribbling creates a unique texture but requires patience and a meticulous approach.
Its fun and loose but requires some focus to keep the stipples consistent and together. Give it a shot :-)
you have no idea how much you've helped me with my summer project before college starts. thank you so much!
Who on earth could possibly give this man a dislike!?
Anyway, I'm glad you're still drawing STRONG, sir. I really enjoy what you share with us, and I would LOVE to see you draw a city-scape or a castle.
Thanks.. and thats coming soon :-)
When he shaded the ball, I got ticked off - he made the curve too dark. There is no eraser with this technique. He kept going I dislike the video.
@@Pumie03 it's three years later, do people making their own shading choices on their own art techniques still anger you this much?
I'm doing my first stippling project. It's a little daunting, so I'm happy I found this video! Good tips, great example at the end, too. Thanks for making this!
I never understood how Michelangelo was creating his great shades in his sketches. Now I know. Thank you so much for filling the gap :D
: )
i don't have any art classes but i draw and i kind of feel like trying out this style, seems relaxing
I find it weird that I've just started to to get. Into the world fine art and and out of urban arts .. (More less Graffiti) and I feel like your an amazing teacher that has moved me to this new area of art that I never really messed with
glad to know you're transition...your skills in graffiti will still inform what you do in anything else my friend
I'm sorry that I did not respond to this msg when I got it a long time ago but I do water color and molding clay and of course pen and ink and, graffiti and a little airbrushing. . .. And again sorry I didn't see this message along time ago....
the way you draw is so confident, i love the character of your lines. thank you for the tut, stippling has always been very challenging for me.
Thank you, this really helps. I struggle with stippling because I tend to get a little over-compulsive about dot placement. I have an important project to do and don't want to screw it up; I'll work with your suggestions.
Are you an art teacher? You have the potential for it. :)
Yea thanks
+Alphonso Dunn You are very welcome sir. Please do more art!!
I used this tutorial to make a last minute present! the person loved it! Thank you for all that you do Mr. Dunn!
Love your books and enthusiasm! They inspire me to draw more each day. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! God bless you.
You're just my favorite teacher, I've been wanting to master several pen and ink techniques, thanks to you and a lot of work I've conquered a few of them, the biggest thank you from a fellow drawer! ;)
thanks...glad they help
I'm new to stipling and this helped me alot! Thank you :)
eda gurler you're very welcome
Nice demo Alphonso! I love all the tips and tricks you mention throughout the video.
I didn't think about this method as not to get attention on the small detail, but still having it shaded, would add this to my arsenal, thank you!
+ss0b ye very welcome my friend. And thanks for the suggestions :-)
Duuuuuude u are soo awesome I recently saw a friend of mine with a book filled with stipple drawings and was hugely inspired however you've taken me to another level of inspiration dude your an awesome guy keep it up man SUBSCRIBED
thanks much : )
New subscriber!! Thank you soo much I just started stippling on a wood burning project I’m doing for a friend as a gift and this really helped me understand it!! ❤️😍🙌🏽😁
I have just started using this form of drawing. I find it fascinating! You do some wonderful techniques here that are very helpful. I practiced my shading techniques using adult coloring books, and then did my first free hand drawing. I am pretty happy with the results. Keep em coming!!! I look forward to seeing more of your work!
Glad youre finding them useful
My neighbor is a a pro at this technique, He has made a living using this technque for over 20 years, drawing buildings and houses. It takes him weeks or even months to finish one. He has shared with me to go in circles with your pen to get even and consistent dots.
Sounds like a solid technique
Extremely helpful. I really needed this. Thank you so much. After enough practice with these techniques, I hope to create a pointillism drawing of a ram. It'll be really time consuming, but hopefully worth it. ❤️
+lvl1humanoid You can....be patient and slow and steady...pointillism drawings shoudnt be rushed
You are my personal "go to" art instructor. You answer the questions I feel silly asking. The questions I feel silly asking, you point out how important and relevant they are. Thanks, Alfonso! And, Merry Christmas!!
Thanks. Happy Holidays!
Thankyou for the helpful advice 🙂 you made the eye look so easy! love it
Your videos are helping me a lot in architecture school. Before, I find it hard to draw and keep up with my classmates but now I feel like I can be almost at par with them. Thank you!
Yayy! Glad I could help
Got the book, LOVE THE BOOK!!!! You are awesome!
Thanks so much!
I wish my art teacher in high school was this good. I learned almost no technique at all. I could have progressed so much further with lessons like yours. At least I can try to improve now, better late than never. Thanks!
Yup better late than never
So...here i was on reddit...looking at things, come across this guy who said he spent 70 hours on this drawing...i open said link...shit looks badass. See the term stippling being thrown around, so i think the shit is that? OHHHH it's those really cool dot drawings. Brought me to youtube to look up how it's done...found your vid...and now i wanna give it a try, on a really small scale. You're a good teacher man! That eye...looks amazing lol no joke.
Thats much! Some journey you went on lol
You connected the dots ;)

Thank you so much for this wholesome helpful video! I’ve been drawing portraits with graphite pencil since March and I’ve gotten pretty good, and now I want to try something new! I want to try this!
You’ll enjoy stippling, let alone Pen & Ink
Thanks! I tried a small picture of a bulldog yesterday for the first time and it actually turned out really good! Can’t wait to do more! I can do ink drawing though with cross hatching but I may be able to in the future :)
Amazing teacher…! 👌
Great, thanks for sharing.
This technique is awesome, your videos are a great source of inspiration and learning.

+colorpaper princess (colorpaperprincess) That means alot. Thank you
I'm a gun engraver, and starting to learn bulino engraving same thing but on metal great tutorial thank you
Carlos Delao hmm..hope this helped a lil
I'm glad your stipples are mostly dots now. In the other video where you did the face, you often did strokes instead of dots, which made the lady look like she got a beard instead of a shadow. This way now it looks so much better.
This helps my project very good thank you for this videos.
man your work is amazing !
+shiva yune thanks much
thank you so much . you have helped me improved much!
+itzel Vargas glad I could! :-)
Awesome. Thanks mate!
Alphonso, your work is lovely.
+Firedragyn thanks so much
And I like the effect of the old, low quality print this method gives, like the photos that you find in old encyclopias. The method is used persistently in them encyclopedias.
+ss0b ye I like it too...perhaps I recreate it without knowing lol
Great tutorial! I draw lots of Mandala's and I wanted to start incorporating this type of shading into them.
Stephen Jacobes hope it helps :-)

Great channel!!! Very informative just a thought

You are really good and helpful. You just earned a subscriber
thanks much! : )
This is super helpful, thank you so much!
Very welcome : )
Super stippling skills!
Coming back to this (because I want to attempt a portrait using only dots).
I'm fairly new, so I like to sketch out what I'm going to "dot" in very light pencil lines. Then I lable dark and light areas with letters to remind myself where to shade. I erase all my lines afterwords. 😁
Thank you this was so helpful!
no problem
STIPPLING that's the word that I was looking for! 🤦♀️ great video!💙🐝💙
🙂
Bravo Aphonso, you're very good on it~

Yes Now I Can Try AMD Stipple Thank You Your So Gooood
Very welcome
In drawing we have two teachers, ourselves and Mr. Dunn :D. In my case, I found stippling more natural and easy to understand than hatching (be it cross hatching and many other shading techniques).
Glad it helped : )
Thank you for this!!
