- In this episode of SurvivoTek's "Blade Talk Tuesday" (ep. 44), we discuss my personal experience with the custom knife company Adventure Sworn and take a first look at their new R-Series of knives, production versions of their custom designs. In this case, I am working with the Classic R-Series.

My personal experience was during a difficult year for Adventure Sworn (and all of us), and it may be different from your experience, and I am not saying all future interactions with the company will be negative. They are a small American company and worth supporting. That being said, if Adventure Sworn, or any other small business, is reading this, focusing on customer service and communication will ultimately improve your company's reputation among patrons. Simple communication with your customers is the first step toward rebuilding trust.
My first look at the Adventure Sworn Classic R-Series knife was a fire-prep test with some batoning, splitting, and then feather stick carving. These tasks always give me a great feel for the tool. Honestly, and I think you'll see it in the video, I'm surprised at how comfortable the knife is and how well it works. It's difficult for me to 100% back and recommend Adventure Sworn because of their lacking customer service, but this knife, I can totally recommend.

Remember, this video is primarily on my personal experience with Adventure Sworn as a company. They really are great people over there, just maybe overwhelmed by everything that's happening. Be patient and be understanding because you never know what someone is going through behind the scenes. That's always my policy.
So I ordered 1 of the r series back in august of 2020 and it said 2 weeks to ship I had the same issue I didn’t receive it till November of 2020 and had emailed them quite a few times to basically never receive a response till late October
@@rickyswoles Oh wow! That is actually pretty horrible. Especially for a knife "ready to ship." This is why Capitalism is the best system. A business that doesn't get run well, no matter the quality of their product, eventually won't get customers making way for a company that does run well.
Yes I agree personally the knife is a very good knife but what you were saying about how we understand that things happen especially with covid but communication goes a long way is exactly how I feel.
This issue has been going on years before Covid came into play.
Cody and I have texted back and forth ALL weekend. I bought a Mountaineer on his site, but then began to second guess myself. Cody was super patient, and responded to all of my questions immediately. I ended up with an Explorer in 3V, and since it’s already built, I should be seeing it this week. 👍👍👍👍
I’m in the UK, I’ve got both a classic and mountaineer. Received both knives after a couple of weeks, no issues whatsoever. Lovely knives and in my experience good service.
That looks like a really smart knife. I love my custom Mountaineer.
This was a fair assessment, appreciate you taking the time to put it out there. I love their knives, shame the pandemic response had so many small American companies scrambling.
I’ve met Cody twice and toured his shop once he’s a great guy. I agree with the issues on communication but I also know the issues he’s had with being scammed and what not.
Being a newish knife maker it’s so easy to get behind on builds.
I ordered my classic from adventure sworn 4 years ago it took me 8 months to receive it and I tried to get a hold of them and they wouldn't make a comment or no way of contacting them or anything
Nice video. In my mind I was thinking about the Lars Falt knife from Casstrom. Much cheaper, but also a great performer. Less pride of ownership though.
Oh I have always wanted to try a Casstrom knife, particularly the Lars Falt. It seems like an amazing bushcraft knife. I don't really care about the pride behind owning a knife. I just want a knife that works for me. Thank you!
Sweet knife . I really like the handles on it
Me too! The handles are super cool. They did a great job with them.
I got my "ready to ship" knife in a timely manner but communication is not the best. That being said, I absolutely love the knife.
I ordered a custom Mountaineer last May and haven’t heard anything from Adventuresworn. I’ve sent a few emails during that time and haven’t heard anything back
I had a similar experience. I think everyone on the custom list has and is
That's a long time. If you check their "Custom Order List Status" page on their website, it might give some clues as to why they're so delayed. What happened to me was I randomly got an email about my knife being "next on the list" about a month before I got pictures of it. And then shipping confirmation about two weeks after I got those pictures of it. Good luck, my friend! The journey is a test of patience and will!
I love my Adventure Sworn knife but I had the same experience. Emailed countless times and no response. Customer service is a huge part of being in any business!
Didnt know you were told a month or two when paying for it...then bad communication then the 'next week' line. You are more forgiving than most, they should have been straight and then offered a refund or at least a good discount. Enjoy your trip, hoping for one soon here too. BTW, your sheaths look amazing!
Life has really been teaching me patience through lots of random "events" mostly because I'm a naturally impatient person. Haha! Thank you so much, my friend, I really appreciate the encouragement! I've been working hard at improving my craftsmanship.
I've thought about buying an R-series and then putting my own carbon-fiber or micarta pins in and gluing the scales on. Did you ever take yours apart? Does that seem possible?
Did those sheaths come with the AS R series knives? I really like the looks of them. I checked AS website but they show a different sheath.
Thanks, man! Yeah, I made them myself.
Very nice looking. Reminds me of my GNS by LT Write
Yes! It totally does resemble one. I believe they are both modeled after a Woodlore style knife.
Did you keep your LT Wright GNS? If so I’m curious how you would compare it to the AS knife.
Also if you are still going to give away the AS, I’m in 😅
Bummer about the lack of communication, I'm dealing with that right now from a maker....
Yeah, it always sucks for sure. Hopefully it works out.
Funny how a few hours after leaving this comment I was contacting!
Are there different grinds in the R series ?
Not that I'm aware of. They seem to all be scandi so far.
@@SurvivoTek would like a saber or convex , next knife is gonna be the bravo 1 lt for sure ...
@@townieoutdoors8121 oh yeah! I’ve been wanting a Bravo 1 for a while. From what I’ve heard, they are fantastic knives.
That's funny cause awhile back I asked your opinion on getting a Benchmade Bushcrafter or Lt wright.
Your main opinion was that S35V or S30V is to hard to sharpen in the field ?
What changed your mind ?
By the way I went with the Benchmade Bushcrafter. I reprofiled the edge cause Benchmade V grinds are pocket knife grinds . That said after I gave it my own edge I love it. It's 19° with a slight convex now and it slices like a true Bushcraft knife should.
I also have not seen any chipping at all it holds an edge for an unbelievably long time it's very good steel. As for the handle I did soften a few spots that needed rounding off but it feels great .
BUT if a person is new at bushcraft I would not recommend it. I have no problem reprofiling a knife I have the skills and tools. I think an average JOE would be disappointed if they were seeking a "woods tool" .
If a guy has the skills heck yeah esp if ya like a thin relief edge on a saber grind. Once ya raise the grind angle its wicked .
Thanks for the honest review I've seen these knives but have heard about some poor customer service from others.
Hopefully they get settled and can grow cause they do make a nice looking knife esp the handles.
Haha! I do remember that. I wouldn't say my mind has changed since then. My preferred steels are still high cabon steels, tool steels, or AEBL, but with soooo many knives in those types of steels, I was just looking for something slightly different to test.
That sounds amazing! I've seen pictures of reprofiled Benchmade Bushcrafters, and it seems like they perform so much better than the original grinds. I'm so happy you're enjoying it. But yeah, definitely not something everyone should be doing unless they have the tools and the know-how.
Same issue with Athlon optics. They take customers money or tell me a scope is coming in next week, and they are wrong by 6 months...or more? Yeah I don't like that.
There is so much trust in a business like that, and to not receive any word at all will quickly remove that trust. Sorry to hear you've been dealing with the same thing.
Are you in your back yard? What are your HOS’
I wish this was my backyard, but alas, I live in apartment. We drove about 2 hours north in the mountains for this video.
And what is "HOS"?
Price point on a machined knife 🔪 , I'm cool with it . If it cuts and it's sharp everything else is cake 🎂
Awesome! They seem to be of the same high quality as their custom knives. Thanks for the comment, my friend!
I have 10 adventure sworn knives .. 3 of the customs took some time . Longest wait was 9 months. But if you want a knife quick, order from Amazon
Never ordering a knife from Amazon again (unless it's an LTWK). The issue is never the wait. The issue is the communication for me.
There’s a difference between wanting a knife quick and wanting it on time, or at the very least some communication.
Also have fallen to the trap orderd a in stock knife in april 2023 took my money no order number and no knife real disappointed
Ha! Don't plan on buying a Survive Knives Product! Eight years later, you might get it! Haaa!
April 2023…..ordered in December and now I’m getting no response from them at all???
Sorry but this is just poor business practices and says something about the people at this company.
You NEVER pay all the price, before you get the product. 2nd, all knives has to be sharpened, at least once and all steels take more than that to perform as they should. in most cases edges could be reprofiled to improve the knive's capabilities, but my point is, that this knife IMO, was not as sharp, not even half as sharp as a scandi edge can get. So, this video can't show how this knife really performs.
Yup, I definitely know that for the future. And I'm more testing the knife directly from the maker, so getting to see what kind of edge Adventure Sworn puts on their blades before shipping them out. Thank you for your comment, sir!
