Hi, my name is Jude, and I'm the host and creator of SurvivoTek. I started this channel as a gear review channel back in 2015. I am passionate about the outdoors and testing myself and the equipment I choose to take with me. In my videos, we discuss survival, bushcraft, and preparedness. We review the gear that is made to keep you alive. Most importantly, though, we have a lot of fun out there creating adventures for ourselves.

Camper Van Conversion (Part 2) - Wool Insulation Is AMAZING!
In this Camper Van Conversion update video, we'll be putting in the floor, walls and ceiling. Insulating with wool is a great for vehicles since it is fire retardant, all natural, water repellant, and keeps its insulating properties even when damp. My 1993 GMC AWD Safari van is really starting to take shape, and I'm super excited to be sharing the journey with you! Keep an eye out for the next episode of this miniseries where I'm sharing how I'm turning this mini van into my outdoor mobile basecamp for CZcams!

Learn to Can Carve a Wooden Spoon the Easy Way!
zhlédnutí 284Před 3 měsíci
Are you ready to learn to carve a wooden spoon? In this video, I want to show you how I approach all of my woodworking projects. I am no CZcams artisan like so many spoon carvers on this platform. I enjoy the process but lack the patience to spend too much time on it. So today, I'll be sharing my "easy" approach that winds up being fully functional while not necessarily perfect. The hand forged...
My First Camper Van Conversion (Part 1) - 1993 GMC Safari AWD
zhlédnutí 1,1KPřed 3 měsíci
In this video, I want to show off some of my efforts converting my GMC AWD Safari van into a camper van and adventure vehicle. I started this project almost exactly 2 years ago back in spring 2022, but through many unforeseen circumstances, had to put it on hold. With life stabilizing a bit (a very little bit), I am eager to start up the project once more. Before I get too far along, though, I ...
5 Fire Starting Methods for Camping and Survival
zhlédnutí 222Před 3 měsíci
One of the most important survival skill to learn is how to start a fire. Second to that is how to maintain a fire (for a future video). In this video, we'll be going over 5 of my preferred methods for getting a fire started. If you watched my last video on carving a feather stick, this piggy-backs off of it as a feather stick's primary purpose is in creating a fire when most natural tinders ar...

Carving a Feather Stick is a bushcraft technique that could also save your life one day. Creating sustainable fire is imperative in so many survival situations from hypothermic emergencies to water purification needs. When tinder is scarce and or your sources are damp, mastering the technique of the feather stick will provide you with dry and flammable tinder no matter where you are. All you ne...
How Latex Thickness Affects Your Slingshot Speed | Simple Shot Axiom X

After messing around with slingshots for nearly 5 years, I’ve always wondered how much the gauge of latex (it’s thickness) affects your shot speed. Will shooting with different band thicknesses make me more accurate? Or will it have little to no affect on anything at all? In order to answer these questions (or attempt to do so), I decided to run a little experiment. After building a new slingsh...

In this comparison video, we're talking about tapered tang knives and full tang knives. Theoretically, they are both "full" tang, but the major difference is that a tapered tang tapers (duh!) toward the back end of the knife adding a better balance and feel to the knife in hand. We weigh the knives, do some fine carving with them, and discuss the benefits of using a tapered tang knife in compar...

still have everyone of those except the jessmuk which i never owned my pathfinder pk1 is one of the originals with the little primitive guy logo several of those from joe and even the hiddenwoodman special editions, even a one up from ltwk and malcolm
Hope you and the family are doing great.
No regular person would ever tell the difference when using either knife they will both do whatever you need them to do. The difference is sl slight it doesnt even matter when using both.
I've got a 99 safari and I'm getting ready to do some similar stuff but I'm probably going to be living in it, I've already hardwired solar into it and hung up a hammock
You still had a lot to learn 3 years ago young Padawan. Hollow grinds are not weak... Some of the best bowie choppers are rocking a hollow grind. Some of the best Italian stilettos also have hollow grinds. It depends on the stock thickness and arc length of the grind. Arc is one of the strongest structures out here and you have two arcs in every hollow ground blade. You prolly schooled in US so Geometry was not a thing in your High School.
why am i only seeing this now? Great topic!
Pulls out the long board brotha YESSS!!!✊️🔥✌️💚
Hahaha! Had to slip it in there one of these times!
Freaking EPIC and gorgeous design bro love it!!!✊️🔥✌️💚
Thank you so much, brother!
Scandi is king for wood whittling and any wood work kinda similar looking to an axe grind ironically!!!✊️🔥✌️💚
Oh yeah! Scandi for the win!.... Maybe.... I don't know, I go back and forth. Fickle as a cat...
@@SurvivoTek I prefer Saber over anything but for wood scandi all the wayyyy😆🙌
Sun Burn block as well
Have you spoken to the Native American Indian tribe ?
No I have not. Great suggestion, though!
How do you tie the bands on
I tie using thin strips of leftover band material just wrapped around the fork and tucked in.
@@SurvivoTek thanks, one more question not sure if youd know, but i cant shoot butterfly, whats the best thickness bands for the regular shooting style
@@Alex-kq1sv That is a fantastic question, I did quite a bit of testing on this myself - bought every band thickness I could and shot every ammo size. Ultimately, I found that 0.6mm is the best all around thickness. But if you shoot a lot of light ammo (like clay or plastic) go thinner. It depends on your ammo more than your draw length.
@@SurvivoTek i shoot clay and steel, steel for game clay for plinking
@@SurvivoTek i have 0.8 mm thickness and 0.75 mm, both can stretch to my ear bur i cant shoot that far back, i keep my anchor point near my eye actually
I know this video is 3 years old, but I want this forrest green color. The website shows the green as a lime green. Did that change or is the color exaggerated on the site?
That's a great question. Wish I could help, but I never had any contact with the company even after putting this video out there! Have you tried reaching out to their customer service?
Nothing beats a good Scandi grind 👍🏻👍🏻 And Cody at Adventure Sworn makes some of the best there are 😊
Brotha these are my favorite videos to watch chilling Bushcrafting coffeing 😂 fireing 😅 how are these for views related to knife videos???✊️🔥✌️💚
Thanks so much! Yeah, these are super fun! And they sometimes do well. This one did well, I think, in comparison to others.
it is a good beginner slingshot?
I believe it definitely is! Takes a little bit to learn the OTF (over the forks) method of shooting, but once you get it, it's a great one!
Bought this boat and before I could get it in the water a seam cracked at the waterline. Called customer service, a useless endeavor. Just brought it to the dump. My advice don't buy one.
I have several patterns from LT but am most excited about the Bushbaby HC I just custom ordered in matte orange G-10 with a convex grind and a tiger pattern patina. Being a member of their internal forum, what they call the Pout House, is a great way to get your hands on more options.
Love the blade design btw bro, totally skipped that first time I watched 😂✊️🔥✌️💚
Sorry can’t agree with you, Aborigines, the Hadza, First Nations etc are ‘Surviving’ indefinitely, Bushcraft is done voluntarily for fun with all the equipment carried in a rucksack including your food for however long you’re out there. And if a bushcraft or Survival knife can’t light a fire it’s useless. PS A Jacklore in 01 is 4mm thick, one in SF100 is 3mm thick and one in AEB-L is also 4mm. Whereas a Ben Orford AEB-L is 3.5 mm thick.
Hey man that was a fantastic presentation for knives! Way to go!
Interesting
Its a learning curve. I don't want to PLAN on using only one tool. I carry a kukri,A small full tang, and a saw. That is being prepared. Anything less is UNPREPARED,
The Aspen Grove is in Utah it's called pando
Could you say that the overbite of Scandigrind is somehow linked to the blade thickness? Tradinitionell scanidinavien knive designs have blades about 2mm thick, wich slice pretty good.
Sorry to be the dumb newb but why do you start with such a large piece of wood? For strength or density?
I'm definitely no expert at wood choice, but I do like finding heartwood and denser growth wood. Most of the time, if I use a branch or something smaller, it tends to chip out on me really easily.
Great tips Jude!
Thank you, brother!
Great videos! Have you tested solar panels & battery packs??
Thank you! I've tested the battery pack a few times on trips and at home but not the solar panel yet. I've heard it's not great but better than nothing!
@@SurvivoTek Thank you for your reply. Good luck with everything 👍😊
That audio difference was immediate wow!
Oh yes! I love how well the insulation improved the sound. Once I get some curtains in there to block the windows, it'll be like a sound booth!
Dude!! Love this how awesome 👌 there's a lot of benefits to the wool versus other crap the most rewarding part though... having your OWN peaceful sanctuary and to go ANYWHERE!!!! priceless my friend cheers✊️🔥✌️💚
I am super happy with it so far! And wool seems to be the right choice. Can't wait to share the next update. It'll be a big change (hopefully) when I find more time to work on it. Our second kid was born a week ago, so it's been crazy hectic as you can imagine!
@SurvivoTek ooooo yeah lol congratulations brotha so happy for you enjoy!!✊️🔥✌️💚
Why on earth do you need to have that disjointed noise in the background interfering with your otherwise excellent delivery?
I just noticed the sweet hat too!
Haha! Thanks, brother! I was thinking of doing a custom hat run last year, but it would have cost me like $20 per hat, so I put that on hold until I could figure out a more economical way to get a quality hat made. I hate cheap hats.
Oh I like notching the wood like that for safety! Yes!
Awesome! We so smart!!
Looove that axe! The beard is really nice! What saw did you use on the wood at the beginning?
Yeah, it's a really nice little axe. It worked out great for this project! I was using an Agawa Boreal 21 saw. It's great for bigger pieces - not great for the detail work like when I needed to notch.
The ducks are so attentive!
Haha! Oh yeah, they're so curious (and dumb). Every time I'm over there they spend a solid 20 minutes just staring at whatever I'm doing and then get bored and wander off. Only to forget and then get super curious and run back over to see what I'm doing.
This was awesome great demo bro I'll watch this over sellout Canterbury spoon video anyday 😂lmfao ✊️🔥✌️💚
Hahaha! Sellout Canterbury! Man, that's some high praise! I hope I'm worthy of it. Thanks a ton brother!!
@SurvivoTek did you see ironically he uploaded a "spoon carving" video lol 😆 he's a sellout beyond belief 🤣 😂
Nessmuk from Brisa
Best
Thanks for the tips Jude! Especially with the hatchet. I’m afraid I’ll cut my hand off lol. I guess I just need to man up and start using one. I’m gonna try to carve a spoon next time out🙂👍🏻
Yeah, I was a little nervous that I'd chop into my thumb while filming, but so far all digits accounted for! Haha! You gotta send me a pic of the spoon you make!!
@@SurvivoTek I will🙂👍🏻
Interesting video. A hatchet and a knife both can do so much, including make a spoon. Good demonstration. I bought a small hatchet from a knife maker recently, and I have substituted it for my machete with much success. Enjoy the videos.
Pound for pound, I do feel like a good hatchet is maybe the most effective wood stool. I hate the mindset of the "one tool option." It's great to hear from you, my friend! Thank you for the support!
Good job! Thank you! :]
Full flat grind is the best grind for general kitchen tasks. Grind type is crucial for vegetables like carrots and onions. Truth is that convex can't compete with FFG for food prep. But FFG is not good for woodworking and buscraft tasks.
It’s always worth it…IMHO!! I waited seven years for a custom water-lily patterned saddle. Yes, SEVEN years. Traveled to the maker and spent three days as he put the ground seat in. Tortured artist soul!! That is an absolutely gorgeous knife💥💥
I'm so excited to see the van upgrade! I know we've talked about it before but I think awf Astros and Safaris are some of the best vans for adventures! That stove looks great and it really is a good price on the sale!
Oh yeah, you're like part of the "inner circle" (if there was one), but I don't remember how many pics I sent your way during the build... Anyway, so great to hear, from you brother!
This looks like a cool project. Subscribed to see how it goes. Do you have any experience doing this kind of stuff, or is it just trial and error? Good luck and I hope it turns out good.
I really appreciate the support. And nope, I'm a complete beginner at this. First conversion ever. I've done home renovations and remodels, so that helps a bit, but working in such a small space is TOTALLY different. Also I am concerned about putting holes in the walls and floor. Haha!
I just picked up a 91 gcm safari gonna make the same conversion now! Lol. At the moment im cutting a whole in the floor above the gas tank and fule pump. This way i can install a door down there and wont have to drop the tank next time some poor sap has to change the thing.
That's a great! Van twins! Haha!
Right on Jude! I want one lol
Haha! It's been such a headache so far. Not sure if I recommend it, yet...
Vanlife bushcraft! I'm glad you're making content again
Gotta love the blend of the traditional and the new! Haha! Thank you so much, my friend!
I have a similar project going on right now, this is inspiring. I’m converting a military shelter to a camper. Also, please sell me a Humpback.
That's awesome! It's been so helpful for me to watch others succeed. Makes me feel like it's actually possible. I would love to sell you a Humpback! Primitive Bear Knives (formerly Papa Bear Knives) and I have actually been discussing a second run of them!
