I had to pull the trigger on the toro time master and upgrade from my super recycler. I did not realize from watching other videos just how big this mower actually is. If you're used to a 21" mower like I was you will be surprised if you ever use one of these. There are some pros and cons as you see in my video.
I didn't want to get into too many details because I will be doing my own review in a few weeks as well as comparing it to my super recycler. Stay tuned for that.
If anyone has a suggestion on a striping kit, please let me know in the comments.
As always, thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe. We'll see ya next time.

I debated between the checkmate and the toro striping kit for awhile. I ended up going with the toro striper because it’s really easy to take on and off. I didn’t want to have to mess with bolting it on/off every time I wanted to use it. I’ve had it a year now and have been really happy.
Nice to see a fellow Hoosier kicking butt in the lawn! I've had my TimeMaster for about a month now and absolutely love it- my wife thinks I'm nuts. I'm here in Central Indiana- take care.
SWTexan Where in central Indiana? Muncie right here. 47304. Love my Toro Timemaster!!
@@brockwilson5485 Too funny- we used to live in Muncie (Halteman Village) but we moved down here to Westfield several years ago. Stay safe up there!
Nice work! Looking forward to seeing your full review.
You're the man Don
Glad to see you got the mower fixed. Your carb was surging which was causing it to die when you engaged the blades. The Timemaster does stripe much better with side discharge and bagging
Just happened to stumble on your video I found it very interesting and beyond hilarious with a flag and the mow. Nice editing by the way kept me entertained. Thumbs up and I have now subscribed
First time subscriber due to your Toro Timemaster review. Awaiting your next review.
Had the same problem and ran a can of sea foam through it over 3 tank of gas and now it runs fine.
Oh Hell Ya!!!!!........Carrying Ol Glory Through the Lawn!
Great review video! I am looking at this mower and a Cub Cadel CC800 to mow a .4 acre lawn. Decisions, decisions.
Cub cadet wont shut down if it gets overwhelmed by tall grass causing your belt to smoke big time, i also see videos where they say the timemaster cuts better and easier to handle
nice production, great review, thanks for sharing. I have the Toro striping kit, very nice. Great machine, love mine.
Hey, I have an old 190 cc….same thing happened to me….stalled when engaging the blades…….it was the pulleys that were bad and worn out……upgraded to the heavy duty pulley kit and now works fine….
I bought mine in 2013. Worth every penny
I'm using the big league lawn striper. Works great. Much easier to use than the actual Toro branded striper. My timemaster didn't stripe my fescue very well on its own either. Nothing against Ryan but my theory on how he gets great stripes without a striper is that he typically cuts the same direction each time he mows
I have same mower...3:13...let it warm up, and slow. ...she guzzles gas...I get my lawn done on one fill up. She cuts incredibly nice, best cut I ever had.
newtonbrook hey are you saying if you mow slower it eats up more gas or uses less?
The stripes should be good with it. It depends on your grass, but the stripes are most notable when it's sunny and the sun is behind your back when you're looking at the lawn.
Hello. Hey how do you like the Time Master. You mentioned you would do a follow up video after this one. Also could I ask a favor. Could I ask you to give me a measurement of the mower from outside edge of tire to other side of tire. As well as a measurement of the mower from front of base to back edge of back wheel. Just trying to figure out if I can fit this in my garage in a spot. Also when the handle folds completely over. Does it stick out past front tires which could add more depth? Hope all this makes sense. Thanks.
Nice mower Bro..
Probably a good idea to fill up, do the front yard; then before moving to the back fill it up again. That way, you avoid running out of gas in the middle of the back yard and having to lug your gas container from the garage (and carrying it back).
Another idea when using a heavy 5 (or larger) gal gas container to avoiding having to hold it up and slowly dribble the gas into the sponge is to buy a 1 gallon container and just fill it up from the 5 gal.
Something was definitely wrong with the engine, but the blade brake cable would have needed adjusting as well. If its too tight, it'll kill the engine.
Been using machine for over 6months and only issues are to do with the belts. Been upgraded under warranty.
Will see how long it lasts this time around, as the time savings still make it worth it.
Nice video mate.
They gave me a whole new machine, something was up. New one much better!
I've got the Toro stripe kit and it works great but I also get good really good striping without it also. Not sure on your grass type but maybe that has something to do with it. I too side discharge but always do a double cut to clean up the clippings. And... My blade engagement has never made the mower die regardless of how fast I engage the blade, something doesn't seem right.
I have turf type tall fescue and it stripes well with my super recycler even without my stripe kit on. I'm going to call my dealer and ask about the blade engagement because I agree it seems off
Got rid of the old busted down grass muncher and have had one of these for 2 weeks and love it!!
Ps. I dont miss my wife as much as I thought I would.
Weird flex but ok
I have one coming in the next few days. You can easily remove the blue sponge in the gas tank which basically doubles your tank size. I had a Checkmate kit on a different mower which I loved but man was it heavy
How was the check mate as far as backing up and turning around. That was the downfall with my toro stripe kit
Don’t need the striper on mine but second the comment to pull the sponge out (carefully with needle nose pliers). Can easily get 6000 ft2 in a single tank
I'm cutting my parents 12k lawn on one tank. It's flat and I side discharge. My lawn is about 7k and I can do it in under 1 tank, but it has obstacles. All with the sponge still in the tank. On top of that, it stripes pretty nicely, although not as good as the bigleauge, but it looks good. Btw, the sponge is in the tank for a reason.
I have the toro stripe kit for the Timemaster the only con is it’s a pain to back up I wanted to get the toro one to have everything match but I would go with the big league lawns one in my opinion.
This dude is cool and funny! 👍😀
Love the channel brother, what’s height do you typically mow your lawn?
Just saw this, sorry I never responded! Spring and fall typically 2.75, peak of summer usually up to 3.75
First Aussie 😁. A bigger motor means better endurance which gives you more pleasure.....in the mow.😁👍👍
Haha trevor that's good. I'm all about more pleasure during my mow
the videos I watched with ryan I thought he had the kit on it maybe I better go back and watch but I just bought the toro 30 inch stripe kit and it works great
He has the toro kit. I just made a video with the checkmate kit jf you havent seen that? I just got the toro kit as well and will be doing a comparison
We have one also. They're fragile when new, break them ik n and they're golden but they're very thirsty
I just bought one and used it yesterday for the first time, getting to know it. Slow and steady. I had to edit my comment to say I also ran out of gas on my very first mow, I wasn't happy either. The gas tank should def be bigger.
Yeah that's my biggest complaint with it is the tank is too small
Take the foam out with needle nose pliers.
found you based on the timemaster video. considering getting it but still not 100% sure
Great video just subscribed cuz of the beat in the beginning lol what's the name of it..?
Haha I'll take it! Hollow bells by cxdy. Thanks for watching!
I made a DIY striper based on the Big League Lawn striper. Biggest complaint about my Timemaster is the stupid little gas tank.
Do you have a fuller review yet? Just got one last night but would love to hear your thoughts a year later.
Any full reviews yet? thank you
🔥🔥
😏
Great video, , how do you go from grass to concrete, i am worry that my mower's blades might hit the concrete, i usually see a 3 to 4 inches of concrete edge and i usually pull the front up to avoid hitting the concrete,
What size concrete edge is safe to go over without hitting it.
Tks and i appreciate any suggestions.
When I first bought my house I brought in topsoil to bring the level of the soil up even with the concrete
@@TheLawnWhisperer ok i got you.
I need to pour some dirt on the areas that has caused the concrete to show higher than ground.
Tks , I'll do that.
what type of grass are you mowing and feeding schedule??
You ever run into fungus outbreaks?
I have fescue mixed with a bit of Kentucky blue. Was having a bit of a fungus outbreak. Used scotts disease-x in combination with bio-advanced fungus hose spray. That worked really well
I get really good looking strips with the toro 30 inch striper
Any issues with turning around/backing up in tighter spaces?
The Lawn Whisperer yeah I do have some issues with that. I just maneuver it as if I was towing a trailer when I’m backing up.
Graebe needs to step up his game!
sum day imma git me one!
I debated for awhile on this one, I'm not going to lie!
The gas tank fools you and looks full when it’s really not. I was having to refill the tank for my 1/4 - 1/3 acre lot but then I realized it held more gas as long as I added it slowly after it appears to be full. Pretty annoying as it makes it difficult to fill without overfilling. Wish they’d get rid of the sponge in it.
Did the mower come with their “updated” pulleys.. the silver ones?
I think they’re black. This video is 2 years old
Got to paint those wheels brotha
What height do you cut at?
I've searched everywhere to no avail - do you know what the rpm range is for the Timemaster?
2.5 TO 3K
So have you done a full review yet? I tried looking for it but didn’t have any luck. 😅
No. I never did. I can do that in the near future if you would like
I was just curious. I purchased one last weekend and it’s great. I haven’t had the engagement issues with it, maybe that was rectified or I just got lucky. Lol
Just wanted to see if there was anything else to look out for.
@@valentinibarra2661 the one in the video was a dud apparently. I took it back to the dealer and they replaced it with a new one for me. So all good there! I have had zero issues since. I love it
Nice. Glad it was all good then. Have you looked into the rear drive gears? I watched another review on it and this guy was talking about how they come poorly lubricated from the factory. (Can’t recall the guys channel name right now) I took mine off and sure enough there was a tiny blob of grease for the entire gear on each side. I cleaned it up and reapplied fresh grease on both gears.
*Garage gear is the channel name.
I have a question about toro mowers in general. What is the blue handle by the personal pace housing? I have never understood the importance of it.
It is only on their mowers that have blade stop. So when you dont have the handle pulled the blade isnt engaged. That blue lever prevents you from being able to pull that handle so the blade wont engage until you're ready
@@TheLawnWhisperer That answered another question I had. But I'm talking about the blue plastic handle that is just there when you start pushing the mower. It is just stationary. The operator's handle goes over it also.
@@dejosefsc oh sorry! It's just there in case you need it to help turn the mower or back up. Just another handle to help grab and control the mower. I dont use it though
Avoid using during the hottest time of the day if your yard taking more than 2 hrs. non stop. The pully on the blade housing will be the first thing to replace and transmission belt. The transmission pully is very thin plastic. The whole transmission has to be replaced if you have to replace that pully. When engage the blade, do it slowly like you said. The engagement cable can easily be snapped since it is a tiny plastic rod. The small gas tank may be the reason to keep engine from over heating. It generates a lot more heat than most small mower.
Checkmate
Is it pretty easy to back up and turn with it? In my opinion that was the downfall of my toro striper for my super recycler
The Lawn Whisperer it’s definitely harder than with it off, but you get used to it. The results are worth it anyway
Roll Tide man! You in Bama or just a fan?
I'm in indiana, born and raised here. But my uncle has had season tickets since the Bear Bryant days so I've gone to a game every year since I was 5. Big fan
ROLL TIDE ROLL !!
Roll tide
I reckon by now that it's broken in and you don't have this issue anymore. I bought one and you have to pull it back slow until the cable stretches just a little bit
They gave me a whole new mower. There was something wrong with the first one
@@TheLawnWhisperer oh ok good. Mine never did shut off on me but I know that cable did have to stretch a little
@@UhBuddy1976 yeah there was something else going on with the motor. If you listen in this video you can hear it running weird and they couldnt fix it
@@TheLawnWhisperer Well, I hope this one does you good. I not a big Briggs & Stratton fan but I've heard they've improved their engines some since they took over the Symplicity Co years ago. I've had an engine like this b4 and it always ran well and still does after I gave that mower to my parents. It was a 7.75 engine, just like this one but a little smaller.
@@UhBuddy1976 yeah I would have preferred a Honda engine. I normally dont buy anything unless it has a honda engine
I know Ryan typically side discharges so that may be effecting the stripes it puts down without a striping kit. Great video!
I've only ever mulched so ill give the side discharge a shot! Thanks for watching Ben!
@@TheLawnWhisperer I've never side discharged either but I've noticed a difference in stripes with my mower when I bag vs. mulch. I figured it had to do with how the mower can pull/suck the grass blades up more when I bag compared to when I mulch. Maybe side discharging would be the same.
We would get along great. I always keep my stuff spotless. Lol.
I cant stand to have dirty or messy equipment haha drives me nuts
Nothing wrong with that. I’m going to buy the Toro TimeMaster tomorrow. What is your honest opinion of it??
@@TheLosiracer need some more time with it as I've only mowed twice with it so far but so far I like it
Perfect Office reference. lol!
Theres always room for an office reference haha
You gotta be slow with the blade handle
At first I wanted to grip it and rip it haha but I finally learned
I've hand mine for a year now and I can pull it much faster than when it was new. I pretty much just yank it back now.
How many square feet can you cut on one tank? Website says about an hour but not sf.
I seem to only be getting about 4000 sq ft on one tank but I'm going to call and talk to my dealer about that and the blade engagement because I think both are off
@@TheLawnWhisperer understand, is it taking close to an hour to do 4k sqft. Im looking into getting one as well but I want to do some kind of gas tank mod.
@@benjamincosey2793 no. Maybe 25 minutes or so.
My parent's lawn is 12k and I can do it in 1 tank; it's flat. My lawn is 7k with obstacles and I can do it in less than 1 tank. I can cut both in 30 minutes. I've timed it and it's confirmed via the tach/hourmeter.
Full review on this?
If you bothered to watch the video, he said he wants to spend a few weeks with it first.
That flag walking is funny. Captain America.
Congratulations, my grail mower LOL, what is the total sq footage of your lawn?
wheres the full review?
Lmao at the tire shine, some dumb isssh I would do.
Don’t get the toro stripper it’s way to heavy I would get the check mate if I had to do it over again
Ryan also plays with the color grading in his editing...
I dont know how to do that haha I'm all natural
Looks like a sponsored ad for toro?
What does?
i was punching the air when i kept seeing him stall the blades😭
I had a dud. The dealership replaced it
Who engages their blades that fast? It’s not a light switch...
Came for a review, heard weird electronic music instead.
Onto the NEXT thumbnail.
See ya!!!!
Emblage the gade 😂😂😂
The blades come dull, sharpen them and you will be amazed with the quality of cut
ROLLTIDE?!
GO REDSOX?!
Why are we not neighbors?
Theres not a neighborhood in the world that could handle the both of us

engine is plugged up. maybe bad fuel, that engine should not be making that types of noises......
They completely replaced it and gave me a whole new mower. Something was definitely wrong
@@TheLawnWhisperer I thought it sounded strange.
Depress slowly the blade control
I had a dud
The Lawn Whisperer all fixed up now?
@@finallythetruthisout761 yeah they replaced it for me and all good!
The Lawn Whisperer I finally had to replace a couple belts and adjust self propel
Stop pulling the bale back so fast, It’s like popping a clutch on a manual transmission you obviously want to engage it slowly
Literally had a faulty machine that they completely replaced
toro has bad customer support
Not perfect.
Thats the wrong mower!
lol!
Missfires and bad gearbox - pure shit
More Money for what.. Lazy people
