Profiling him, Manto says, Ashok Kumar’s career took off the moment Najm-ul-Hassan, eloped with his co-star Devika Rani.

Kitni layers hain is khakey mein. It is about Ashok Kumar but I could feel Manto's pain in it. He seems to love Mumbai, must have been really tough for him to leave his friends and his city.

Thanks. We missed your comment. True, it's a multi-layered sketch where Manto realised that it was going to be difficult for him to sustain in that communally charged atmosphere. Ashok Kumar turned out to be a true friend but that was not enough. This is where a visionary like Manto failed miserably. He was a liberal- a genuine progressive as well as irreverent towards all isms. Pakistan was not for him.
Sahir Ludhianvi had also left for Pakistan but he came back.
Manto didn't. He was embarrassed to admit his blunder.
