- YESSSSSS....It's melon planting time. This year we chose grow bags over the tires which will save us a little time. No transplanting required when using these bags. So let's see how well the perform.

My grandfather always put 3 seeds in each hole: "1 for the birds, one for the worms, and one for me". LOL, it worked for him, so good enough for me! Love ya' Mrs Hart.

Aw that’s so sweet 🙂
this is a great idea. thanks!!!
Oh yes, my red worms escaped, and red robins are all over the place. Picking at my wheatgrass, but why?
We used the 3 plant method, 1 for none human varmints, 1 for human varmints and 1 for the family.
Who thumbs down this video, wish I could like it twice👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Some people are just haters!!!
Vegans probably.
@@racometracomet ...Absolutely!
That's why I usually thumbs up 👍 before the intro is even over
Why would anyone thumbs down her videos. I love the content and her voice is so soothing.
Were retired and don’t want to take care of an in-ground garden anymore. Husband made tables out of pallets and we put bags up on them. Best garden ever! No weeks and no bending
Ya I feel that
Bending over isn’t an option at a certain age
But I’ve watched channels that have raised beds where bending isn’t a problem
You also use less water in containers
I made this exact same move this year! No regrets!
Lisa I would love to see pics of the tables he made.
I AM USING BUCKETS..LARGE POT..AND GROW BAGS...I HAVE A SMALL TRAILER TO SIT MINE ON BECAUSE OF THE WILD HOGS...I AM 76RETIRED AND ALONE...ONLY CAN DO SO MUCH AT A TIME...WE WILL SEE HOW IT GOES THIS YEAR ! ☮️❤️💥🇧🇯🇺🇸😇🖖
Took that advice on the tires, watermelons are up now. Experimenting with other plants . To sell or help others on the fight with hunger.
I grew potatoes in tires last year but this year I will only put flowers in them. I watch a video about raised beds and it said not to use tires for food because when they heat up in the sun they will leach heavy metals and other bad chemicals into the soil. I had not considered that problem and, won't put food plants in them again.
God Bless you. Doing the same this year
@@kathym7495 that's after multiple years of exposure to heat & sun. One or two years won't kill you. People use railroad ties (yes the ones with creosote) for raised beds all over the world & they don't die. Your makeup & skincare products contain more toxic chemicals than anything your grow yourself.
My 7 yo grandson grew pumpkins in grow bags a couple of years ago and it was the best pumpkin harvest we ever had. I grew ginger and turmeric in them last year and they did great.
That’s awesome
You don’t need land to grow certain veggies
I grow garlic and ginger in a window in my apartment
I had so much trouble growing things in grow bags last year because the soil dried out really fast:(
I bought some tumeric at the produce store. Can I start plants from the pieces I bought? And how do I start them?
@@gabbygertie8709 If it’s organic then, yes, you can plant what you bought at the store. Plant them 2 to 4 inches deep with the nubs/fingers (rhizomes) facing up. Use well draining soil. It’s best to try to get 10 months growth if you can. So, a pot that you can take inside or out in a greenhouse is ideal.
@@meldlew Line the sides inside the bags with plastic to help hold in moisture.
Beautiful lady, you inspire me every day that I watch a new video. I am a 58 yr old suddenly single woman after a decade of depending upon my spouse. I have come such a long way watching your tutorials. I've learned so many skills thanks to you.
Thank you.
I said the same thing when mine came. These are 5 gallon. My sister have them and planted so I said I’m gonna do it as well. I’m wishing us all well this growing season. More growing with less work
I just watched your video....Great Minds💖
I have NEVER, had success with watermelon, but I will be watching and hoping. You might have the cure to my watermelon curse.
My wife and I actually grew corn a couple years back in walmart bags and it worked well
Wow.
🤩 Wow. I’m trying it . At the least if the people start steeling food in bags you can move them safer in hour house by window etc. It’s a lot easier to protect if need be, just love these idea. I want to try grow squash in these growing
Bags too tied up bamboo with for trellis
Amazine
Yeah I put my Walmart bags in milk crates
I bought several sizes of those pots. Plants don't get root bound, roots grow out the pots ,die off, and new roots grow, seems to me those new roots are better at taking in nutrients. We have lots of deer, raccoons, squirrels, stray cats , and even a ground hog living at my place. You gave my husband the inspiration to buy me a long awaited greenhouse. Its my 35th wedding anniversary present. Those bags are a dream come true since we live on a rocky hill. I bought all heirloom seeds to plant , and we are using soil and compost and all kinds of goodies for our pots. I gardened most of our marriage, canned, dried ,and froze most of our foods over the years. Then I got sick. And so I am really excited about my summer adventure this year!!!! God Bless ,and give you an over abundance of veggies.....
Just love you! You are so cheerful and fun
Home stead heart ❤️❤️ I love the gardens
Fond memories of spitting watermelon seeds at brothers and cousins at summer picnics. Good times😁
Who doesn't love watermelon? Picnics and hot dog days of summer.❤
Me...lol... i'm the exception
My mother-in-law's allergic, but I'm sure she's love it if she weren't. 🍉❤
My sister doesn’t like it...she’s weird though
Me my dogs my cousin Larry and uncle Barry hate watermelon
@@wrongfrequency6701 😂 is that why your name is “wrong frequency“? 🥰
Use a drip pan 2" wider than the container and 2" to 3" tall. Wick up the water. Keep the pan half full.
I use 10 gallon up to 20 gallon. The 20 gallon works great for potatoes.
The 2 gallon works great for 1 cabbage, or 1 head lettuce, or 1 broccoli.
Thank you again I have been frozen in Iowa. May The Lord bless you indeed and keep you from all harm.
I love me some watermelon and cantaloupe!
Hi!! What does the vermiculite do?
How's come these grow bags don't have holes in the bottom of the bags
@@sheilahalder9111 because the water is able to escape thru the bag itself. U can't overwater in those bags
I just found you guys yesterday and I am binge watching! Love y’all!
Have you watched her canning videos yet? 🥰
I’m new too. You and I have found a awesome Channel. So much knowledge in this place.
And everyone is so helpful. Just reading comments is a lesson in growing food and saving your Groceries 😊

@@diannamc367 omg I just realized I've watched her before with ghee/clarified butter!! No wonder her demeanor seemed familiar lol
That’s really nice and great tone prepared
I have yellow petite, sugar baby, and orange watermelon that just sprouted in 4" pots, and i plan on transplanting them in 7 gallon grow bags. I will be placing them on a big concert slab. This is my first time doing melons. I'm excited 😊
My husband is getting the chicken coup ready and my seeds in the hoop house are coming up!!..I'm so happy..everyone be blessed🙏
I've been going crazy trying to find a way for my wife to move her deck plants around by herself. Wood, plastic even lightweight concrete. Thanks for the perfect answer young lady.
GM Mrs. Heart. Your knowledge and your love for people for sharing and helping is amazing. God bless you, Mr. Heart and your Homestead. 🙏💖
This is so exciting. I feel like a kid looking at a playground! 🤣
I used a large grow bag for the sugar baby watermelon last season the melon was delicious. 🍉🍉
Did you put a trellis around it to make them grow upwards or did you let them grow along the ground?
@@TommieMarie Yes, I did use a trellis so they could grow upward.
@@TommieMarie The trellis fits upside-down on top of the dirt in the grow bag.
Hey there Beautiful Lady with your Beautiful Spirit! You truly are a hard happy worker. I better get up and start my work, you are definitely helping me! Peace and Blessings to you and your family. ❤
You're energy and voice are so soothing! So glad I stumbled on your channel!
That's a bummer about the lost footage, yet at least you were able to enjoy the watermelons themselves.
You know what , I just wanted to say how much you are loved . I have learnt so much from you . May the Almighty God keep blessing you ❤️
Thank you so much.
Love a variety of subjects that I view. The HIGH count subscriber are those with > 25 minutes. You give very useful information and should have a million subscribers. Good luck and thank you.
My son will be growing peanuts, watermelon and Honeydew in grow bags this season.
Growing Peanuts sound fun. Good luck to him

Wonderful video. One simple idea to carry a bunch of such grab-handle based grow-bags would be to line them all up, snake through a long bamboo or metal pole through the handles and then two people on either can lift up the entire set of bags (like paramedics hauling out a stretcher) and haul the bags over to wherever you need to drop them off. Lesser bending
I made my own grow bags last year out of landscape fabric and it worked great. I am doing it again this year reusing the ones I made plus I'll be making more. Getting ready to start sewing so I can be ready when it's time to plant. Love your videos.
What a fabulous idea!
I used them for my cantaloupes last year and it did wonderful
Thank you for showing us how you put fertilizer in the soil. I never seen it done that way
I purchased grow bags for the first time this year! We planted squash, zucchini and potatoes in them! Love your video, thanks for sharing!
You’ve been on my mind, praying Mr. H is recovering well.💕
My little 4x6 greenhouse is getting loaded with some plant transplants I have bought. Hoping to start planting in two weeks.
I haven’t grown watermelon in years. Getting some in the ground this weekend. Thanks for the tips
I love you an Mr H lol ..U have inspired me to want a homestead an to work with the land . God bless u always
LOVE SHINES, Thank you! For the view. I can't plant yet. However, I am seriously encouraged.
U are a busy lady💚💚💚 🌼🌼🌼
note: U can also roll down the bag & handles if the depth doesn't NEED to be too deep! Saves on soil mix! I am going to try ur method w the black cow surrounding the seed...and direct nutrition below🍉🍉🍉👍👍👍💚💚💚
Can’t wait for when its time to plant watermelon here in zone 7a Delaware. Definitely gonna try out the grow bags this year thanks for the idea 🙏🏾
Is it too late to start my watermelon with a small plant?
i have watched your video for last year and i see you were having a problem with alot of small watermelon and other melons well maybe try this example if you have one plant producing 10 melons prune that by removing 5 of the babies so the plant can put its energy in the 5 you left on the plant and i believe that will give you bigger watermelon and other melon types i love watching your videos they are calming for me and you have alot of great ideas and i love to learn
I bought these bags for my watermelon and cantaloupe since my husband didn't want to dedicate more garden area for them as last year they didn't do well. I think it was because the watermelon and cantaloupe was planted too close and cross pollinated., not sure, but these bags seems like a perfect solution to test that theory before we dedicate separate growing areas for our melons. Thank you for the inspiration! Sincerely Michelle
I’m excited ☕️
I was just planning on doing this for our melons, but using our empty chicken feed bags.
Why, you human showing some initiative . I just love that !!! How about some of those big reusable grocery bags even ?
@@theresamcmullen4841 That is a great idea. Some grocery bags are the same material as those grow bags Mrs. H is using.
I have a bunch of feed bags I have been using to make shopping bags, but I love your idea for grow bags! I will try them, thanks!
My chicken feed bags are paper and I didn’t know what to do with them.
@@danakarloz5845 I don't believe a paper bag will hold up very long if used as a grow bag. The moisture will break it down in a matter of days or weeks. In the garden, paper bags would best be used as weed barrier or layer/lasagna composting.
i can learn a lot from all your video's you give me hope, i am working hard too get this huge quilt done for my hubby and when i finish i will get my garden going. grow sack's hah who new. thank you.
You have truly inspired me I can’t really have a big garden because of the area I live in
Hello to Mr Heart hope he is up and running soon and happy mothers day...
Thanks for the reminder. I got toclose my greenhouse.
My husband built me the same green house!! Love your videos, thanks for sharing!
I have used grow bags for two years now. I love them here in So. Calif as they are very mobile. I haven't tried melons in mine though. Will have to do that. I will use a 10 gal bag. Keep in mind you have to water often as grow bags dry out quickly in the hot weather.
My grandma that lived to be almost 101,who also had 14 kids,Black Cow was all she used for her gardens.
I've planted my onions,garlic in grow bags,and peppers,and cabbages.
My gramma had an awesome garden
His pride in the garden was his beef steak tomatoes
He used to take me to dairy pastures on cow pie hunts and he knew exactly what he was looking for
He’d just lay they around the plants
I haven’t seen such a big tomato since
One would feed 4 people for lunch
Yum blts
You never know what works best without experimenting with different things. I tried in ground for pumpkins and melons last year and pots. Neither of them worked. Even tried 3 different areas of my land. Vine borers and cucumber beetles+squirrels prevented any pumpkins. Watermelons never got big enough or ripen right. Sticking with my purple hull peas😁
Good Morning 👋❤️💜💚👍
Good Morning
Scrolled right up on this as I'm wondering what to grow in the 15 grow bags I ordered. They were a great bargain@ 5/$7 and 10/$10. I'm headed outside now to plant some melons, pot my tomatoes,& peppers. If I have an issue with keeping them watered, I'll sit them inside kiddie pool, sterlite tote, or a big black trash bag!🤞🏿
Where did you order from?
And the good thing is as you water it will spread down ward thru the soil
This is one of the most wholesome comment sections I've ever read. Your video helped me a lot to have confidence to use my new grow bags, they're 10 gallon from Gardzen I think. I'm so excited!! I hope you get footage of them later!
Another excellent video. You’re the best teacher! Thank you.
I can't wait until you crack open that strawberry watermelon. Sounds yummy! Great video and thank you for sharing!
Grow bags are great. Recently I started using large coffee/feed burlap bags/sacks.
I love your gloves they look so comfy.
I ordered some of the grow bags. I love them, but you are absolutely correct. No way that's 7 gallons. Not even close. Love watching the videos too.
I ordered 5-30 gallon grow bags for my potatoes and sweet potatoes. Can't wait to try them out!
This makes me so grateful and happy. I'd love to help you plant and drag things around. I have a lot to learn, yet this gives me hope to build. Great content for sure
Nice! Can’t wait to see how they do this season!
I love yalls channel and yes I have a rental backyard full of sand I don't think anything planted in would grow so I am using containers and thinking these might work for me. I can't wait to show off what I have been up too. New to planting and growing. I've tried in the past and kill everything so I am happy to have a few trays of starts growing like crazy. Sprouting up way earlier than the package said they would...fun to watch them grow. I feel proud like a a plant momma or something LOL You are what you eat!
We have been growing in grow bags for 8 years and our melons do very well. We let the smaller ones climb up a cattle panel behind the bag... it looks really cool and doesn't take up garden space. I appreciate all your information on amending the soil... it is a weak area for me so I am really appreciating all your knowledge and how you explain everything. Thank you. God Bless.
I ordered the bags over the winter. They do come in different sizes. Looking forward to seeing how everything grows. I also like the idea that at the end of the growing season I can empty the soil back into compost and fold them to store for the winter.
Yes!!!
We love y'all! 🌱💚🌱💚🌱
Miss yall and praying for you.
Thank you for all that you share. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for your video. I bought potato grow bags for the first time and first time trying to grow potatoes. Now I want to by those grow bags too. Thank you❣️
You are a doll I love watching your videos Your a greatest teacher for someone who knows nothing about gardening thank you so much
The dollar tree ones are really big an seem to work great
You are a busy lady, God bless you guys
Peace and blessings back to you both!
Yeah, how wonderful! Love melons! You are going to have such a wonderful yield this summer and fall. Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. 👍
I used those bags for planting white potatoes and sweet potatos. They work great.
Thank you for all the tips. Im in WNC and itching to try those bags. Its to cold here right now.
Your Greenhouse is great.
Those grow bags are a great idea!
Do your thing Mrs. H!!
So happy to have found a channel with Black Farmers! You have a new subbie in me 🤩
I got grow bags this year because I don't have a tiller. So far I planted 1 tomato and some potatoes. I put leaves and soil made from rotted trees and whatever in edge of woods behind me. I then added peatmoss ,and potting mix. I started my potatoes low in the bag until sprouts come out and will keep adding more potting mix. Hope it wo. I have other things I will grow. squash cucumbers and peppers. It's a new way for me to plant. I'm physically having trouble doing this, but ,, I will work at it!!
P
Can't wait to see the plant development!
I love love love, your laugh and attitude. Thank you for all you do 🤗
Thank you Mrs. H I’m looking forward to seeing all the melons and pumpkins grow.
Well Done, Happy Watermelon Harvest 2021 I will be watching. I am growing watermelon in grow bag too and sweet potatoes in a container.
