One thing to help keep your garden tools, and gloves close and dry is I put up a large mailbox 📬 that I had extra in the middle of my yard / garden. No need to look for anything I know exactly where it all is.👍🤝💥

I also live in Florida zone 9b. Our sandy soil has made it very difficult to grow until I discovered compost at the local landfill. They used to deliver it in a huge truck, but now I have to go get it. They make it from all the bags of leaves and tree limbs set out every week. Nearly my whole garden is now containers and one thing I started doing early on is to put earthworms in every one of them. It turns out that earthworms thrive in my containers. Although it does get really hot here, I love that I get to grow all the year long. I happened to find you while scrolling through the suggested and now you have a new subscriber. Today I’ll be starting sugar baby watermelons, too. Thanks for sharing. I’ll definitely be following your garden adventures.

Then one day my 2 feet tall ceramic (heavy) water fountain ⛲️ had the top half flipped on the concrete pathway and cracked into several pieces. I couldn’t figure out how that happened. Sure enough when I saw them grizzly raccoons I put it together. Now I’ve been spraying garlic infused in hot water outside of my gate so they’re discouraged.

This is my first year growing watermelon too and I'm excited to follow along and have a great harvest this year! Though tbh I've tossed my hands in the air with the ever changing seed sowing depth and will just sow at double the length of the seed like I do for everything now lol. Hopefully that won't come back to haunt me this year. So far nothing has failed to sprout so I'm hopeful it's not a mistake.

Hello Iron Druid! I like your method of seed depth. I have found that the most important is that it is covered. I tend to do 1/4 inch for tiny seeds and 1/2 to 1 inch for everything else. Also, sometimes my seeds 2 or more weeks to sprout when the package says 7 days ( i almost threw out a whole tray due to that). Lastly, the packets come with SOOO many seeds so I just try again, lol. The problem was blossom end rot I just couldn't keep up with adding calcium Then! here in Texas where also gets hot and with all the melons I couldn't keep them watered enough I mean they were drinking 8-10 gallons a day. @@sbf_fl The foliage did great but It was hard to keep enough water. And notice I said blossom end rot will need lots of fert especially calcium. Notice I said this year I just did one plant per container and in the next few days before the Texas heat hits I will be installing a water system on a timer because Im old and when I get home from work I want to sit my butt down. lol When they set several fruit I will set it to water twice a day. Oh by the way have you seen some of the video's where they sit the melons inside square blocks when small and make the melons grow square? pretty cool

When I lived in California there was a place where you could go and get compost your self.
Thay had big piles of soil compost woodchips ,and I dont remember what. This was back in 1980 I think.
I took my husbands van and a big trash can. I filled it up , then tryed to lift it up in side the truck.
My young sons where with me and between the three of us we got it in.
This one raised bed had little plants and a dead one. I pulled it out. Left a big hole so I filled it with compost (mushroom compost) and later the leaves on my little creeping Charlie, went from about a quarter size to 3"-4"
And the spider plant had hundreds of babys.
I pulled out a spider plant and put it in a pot mabe 30 babys hang out side the pot. I put some Charlie in a basket on the wall . It grew about 3 feet hanging out the basket. Thay were the most beautiful plants I ever grew.

If you put the totes on chairs, cement blocks, etc and only put drainage holes on one end about an inch from the bottom, you can collect the drainage in buckets to reuse. It like compost tea. Watch CZcams videos from Robbie and Gary.
