Hi Chris. Have you done a CZcams video showing how to do the reverse of this? I have a USB thumb drive with videos, pictures, and documents that I want to put into the appropriate folders on my Windows11 computer. Can you help? Thanks very much!
Hi Chris, Your video is the first to show clearly what to do & I would like to thankyou. Are you running Windows Home or Pro? I have the latter preinstalled & do not share your file setup. For example there are no files beneath 'My PC' such as Documents for example, there is only some of these in Quick Access. I downloaded Powershell 7 (x64) as the computer asked me to do this when I attempted your procedure. This helped me finally transfer a file onto a stick!

I just get an error for every file that's in the "copying" folder so it is essentially useless. It says the name is the same from destination to drop. Any tips?

Not sure if this is on topic, but I just bought a new computer, and have about 8,000 songs on my old Windows 7 computer. I have Windows 11 now, and I copied all the files onto an old HDD, and now a new SSD drive because the old HDD drive was giving me too many sector errors. But the SSD drive worked fine, copied all the songs in one folder, but I noticed the file size was off, but the data (each song was there on the SSD drive). Why does this happen?
Thank you. I had to watch this because when I plugged in my USB there was no "USB Drive" appearing on the right side of File Explorer. I just switched back to Windows after many years and it's driving me a bit mad

Just the same go to This PC, find your USB Drive and then do exactly the same as described in this video. You can copy files to any folder (Documents, Pictures or Desktop) you can also see this video czcams.com/video/Dbuc7yXzliE/video.html it refers to Windows 10 but the same principle

THanks. Is there any way of synchroinizing the files when you re-copy to an external drive so that any modification will be copied ?
Yes free file sync is good at doing that.

can we do reverse...i.e. once booted via bootable drive insert one more usb and copy files from usb in to computer

Try a different USB port or different thumb drive.
you know if u copy the folders to the USB and deleted them from the computer does it delete from the USB aswell?
If you copy then it will make a copy of the file leaving the original on the computer, if you move the file then it will remove it from the computer.

I think there must be a difference in cluster size between the drives that would give different file sizes.

You can cut and paste the files but I prefer to copy them then make sure they have copied over correctly before deleting from my computer.

In the settings in Chrome and Edge you can change the save location for downloads, go to settings then search Download.

`Send to' is ambiguous, and should be `copy to' - fault is with windows 11. I wondered whether I was going to lose my Original!
It should be copy to really send to is misleading as you say.

can be Ntfs if only being used on a pc.
