I rank the Beatles the best rock band of all time, and agree, none of them were virtuosi on their instruments. It was the synergy and songwriting. Band-Maid for me are the best rock band founded since around 1970. And I saw a lot of the great ones live--Jefferson Airplane, Purple, Sabbath, Queen, Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, many more. Rock has been dying a painful death for three decades, but it is coming back, and the credit goes to bands like this.

Great reaction and also from a person who seems to be very competent on the subject.
I can tell you that in 2019 I was invited to a Band-Maid concert by chance, and after that, I chased them for a week around Europe to see two more concerts.
I am 59 years old and I am a huge fan of the music of all genres, and I have always gone to see every concert I could of all the most famous historical super bands, I can tell you that it was more than 20 years that I had not felt such strong emotions at a concert these girls are bestial, they play for 2 hours and each song is a new surprise with introductions to crazy songs, often in JAZZ STYLE OR PROGRESSIVE AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS.
I was in the front row pressed against the stage one meter from Saiki and I could hear her natural voice outside the audio system, she has an incredible natural intonation, and for now, she cannot push at full power because she has had surgery to the vocal cords.
Saiki said she will return to pushing in 2021.
I met Saiki around the streets of the city she is shy and very reserved if you talk to her she seems very kind, then she arrives on stage with a decisive step and transforms herself into an incredible dark queen of the stage without ever overshadowing her companions.
Band-Maid has fun while they play and drag you with them in a whirlwind of emotions.
As you say Misa with the bass plays an incredible amount of notes throughout the concert, and since the audio is set with bass and drums emphasis you will be able to vibrate with Misa throughout the concert.
Akane on drums seems invasive and too loud at first, then you understand that this is the right way to play and make the drums feel, Akane plays for two hours like there's no tomorrow, and keeps smiling and looking around and joking with her companions and the public she makes continuous faces, laughs alone, she looks like a child who has fun while she smashes everything with a hammer.
    Akane eats bananas during mid-break.
While performing "Shake That" I was afraid that toms or a cymbal might roll around the stage, I have never seen a drumbeat so hard in a concert.
Akane has insane precision and surprises you with beautiful drumlines that can carry the whole song, then amazes you with crazy ghost notes done on the double pedal bass, things that are very rare to hear done so well.
Miku is very small and very nice, she has a very sweet voice and plays the rhythm guitar always against the time, creating strange rhythmic atmospheres that make the songs interesting and surprising, Miku has created the Band-Maid and writes many lyrics of the songs if you read the translations too the lyrics are not bad at all.
Kanami knows how to turn her guitar into an emotion generator does crazy things sometimes at speeds that few have been able to do in the history of music, and takes really beautiful notes, she doesn't just scale up and down the necks, like many guitarists. they do, she performs real studied solo, which straightens your body hair.
Kanami can also surprise you with singing with a spectacular intonation and a very sweet voice during the acoustic performances of some songs.
Kanami at times can seem crazy when she lets herself be carried away and starts jumping around the whole stage risking to overwhelm Saiki, she jumps on Akane's drums, I saw her playing Akane's cymbals kicking while she was throwing crazy guitar notes, he really seems out of her mind.
Kanami composes and arranges most of the songs.
You will have straight hair for the whole concert, at the end of the concert you will be tired, a little deaf, but very happy and full of positive power, and you will be in love with Saiki with no chance of escape.
I saw these really happy girls, I saw Saiki with tears of emotion at the end of the concert, I saw Misa with the ice bag on her left arm, Saiki rubbing her throat with a strange cylindrical object, Akane eating bananas, Miku tries to talk to the audience with gestures or in absurd English, but you understand the same, even Miku is quite crazy.
Kanami who came to put the guitar neck almost in my face, and almost fell into the audience.
I saw a video where the Japanese audience took Saiki off the stage leaving Miku to finish the song alone, then Saiki came back without shoes as the security staff was going crazy.
Saiki worrying about an onlooker who was sick.
I think maybe they can really dominate the rock world as Miku wishes.
Run to the Band-Maid concert and you will experience the same forgotten emotions you felt with the old super bands of the 70s.
listen to "Play" live on 14 Feb 2020 from Band maid official youtube channel, there is a beautiful progressive intro, and you can hear Saiki laugh as she sings from Akane's grimaces as she is lowered in front of the drums.
In my opinion, they are the best rock band of today to see in concert.
Waiting for your new Band-Maid reactions.😎😎❤❤👍👍💕💕

I encountered Band Maid several months ago, I fell in love with the band as a whole instantly. Over a short time I fell in love with each member of the band except Saiki. I had seen clips of people calling her "Ice Queen" in interviews and in fan clips. I think those things influenced my view of her.
I then saw a concert clip where Saiki notices something in the audience near the end of a song, you can see she is distracted, the song ends and she stops the band. With genuine concern she asks about an audience member "You fell, are you ok?" She then asks if everyone else is ok. That was the moment I fell in love with Saiki.
Then I watched the Feb 14th 2020 concert and just after domination Saiki talks to the audience, I don't understand what she says, but I could feel and see the heartfelt emotion of gratitude and love toward the audience. Then they play "Endless Story", You can feel the outpouring of love and appreciation from Saiki as she interacts with the audience. My favorite part of that concert.

I understand well what you say about Saiki.
It so happened that in 2019 I met Saiki and Miku around Paris.
I could be their grandfather in age, but I am also Italian and of a good presence and I am also very cheeky and so I went to them.
I exchanged a few words and lots of strange bows with them, and I can tell you that while Miku can kill you with her liveliness and flair, Saiki is instead very shy and reserved and can blush for very little.
I, therefore, think that her icy behaviors are often in self-defense.
One thing I must admit is also that Miku herself is very nice and, perhaps a little exaggerated.
Saiki, on the other hand, seems to have really come out of an old Japanese film, she is respectful, composed, discreet shy often lowers her gaze, is very sweet in person, and often blushes.
Saiki herself surprises you with her thinness and delicacy even though she remains very pretty as a girl, she also has really beautiful eyes.
She is very little tall, I think just over 160 centimeters, Miku is really smaller still, these girls are really small.
When you talk to them you realize that they are really little more than little girls, and you value them even more if you think about what they are managing to do, they say things that can make, an old man like me, smile, but they are really adorable.

Saiki is a very emotional singer. As you dig deeper in the catalog you will discover this. It was the song Freeze that got my attention earlier this year ( Pre pandemic ) .
Band Maid songs are very different from each other where I find metal, or power metal music interchangeable . Not a great deal of variation. This coming from a Sabaton fan of long time.
Band Maid for me is number one. Now you will also find so many other very good Japanese bands. To many to list . Have fun with it all. Subscribed

Freedom, Play or any live performance and you will be amazed. Check out Onset, and instrumental, and is only performed live. It's a song put into to give the singer a break. Saiki has developed a great stage presence and leads the crowd and the band. One of the many things about Band Maid that I love is that every member is going full force, all the time! You have to listen to Band Maid songs many times to hear all the levels! Best Rock Band on the planet at the moment!

They're a hard rock band, and Saiki is a great hard rock lead singer. And that's just fine with me. You mentioned Neal Peart, and I feel like that's a pretty good comparison with Akane. For another great live performance from Band Maid check out 'Freedom'. It also features the 'happiest' drum solo I've ever seen. For someone who grew up listening to the hard rock of the 80's and 90's this is one of the most impressive bands (in that genre) that I've seen in a long time. Also, while the lead singer is the front person during the song, Miku (baking vocals and founder of the band) is the hype person between songs and the most outgoing member of the band.

You are absolutely spot on about Saiki (vocalist). Band-Maid works because Saiki’s voice is another one of the instruments... she never overpowers the rest unless the song or particular section of the song calls for it.
But it’s not really the Japanese language. There are “power” type Japanese vocalists in other bands.

You know your band is good live when Jimmy Page sees you in concert and goes backstage to tell you so and then also asks for a selfie with Akane, the drummer. True story. 8:34 Look closely and you can see that MISA, the bassist, has a pick held in the web of skin between her thumb and fingers and, in half a nanosecond, switches from plucking to picking and then puts it back to pluck again. A very skilful trick. Best live Rock band I've seen since I saw Zeppelin in 1979 - yes, I've waited 41 years for this band!

    When we were kids, we found Van Halen, Def Leopard, AC/DC, Alice in Chain etc etc.., we did like this;

2nd time : Guitar! Cool riffs! He is a wizard!
3rd time : Bass is the bad ass!

Interesting that people competitively rank singers, songs, band members-even compare apples to oranges across genres-or try to unpack what makes Band Maid, 'Band Maid.' Makes it clear we all take away from it something personal. It's all subjective. Compared to the old days when labels and radio were gatekeepers, Band Maid blew up quickly. They did what's needed to make inroads in Japan-one of the largest music industries in the world-found their sound and mastered it. That's a huge feat. They all have roles to play, and all contribute to their success, too. It may take more songs (especially live) to unpack how, but they all do. That's one reason they have the makings of a great band (same applies to Jinjer). Calling out one as the lynch pin feels arbitrary to me because the next song will be different. Then the next. And the next. Says a lot about the band's versatility. BTW, Akane the drummer impressed one VIP-Jimmy Page.

It would be Jinjer opening for Band Maid. Jinjer is just getting started with widespread recognition while Band Maid is huge. A lot of it is about international markets, with Ukraine being outside of the main media markets and not having a culture that is accustomed to domestic groups so they don't have a support structure in place domestically to get bands off the ground. Japan has a long history of domestic acts thanks to J-pop and is very hooked in to international media markets so Japanese bands have a lot more opportunity.

Band Maid is simply the best band in the world today. Different members shine depending on the song, but they are always tight. If you want to see a better representation of Saiki's vocals check out "Wonderland" from this same show. 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂

I've always considered Saiki's and Miku's vocals as two more instruments in the amazing group that is BAND-MAID. Of course many times I look up the English translation of Miku's lyrics just to get a general idea of what the song is about, her lyrics are deep and powerful, but just hearing their vocals is enough for me, the meaning notwithstanding. You say your old but I'm 65 and BAND-MAID is my favorite band. Rock on, Chewie, oh, and KURRUPO! PO!

If you want to see a different side of BM then check out Daydreaming. It is a powerful and moving power rock ballad with some great vocals from both Saiki and Miku. Many BM fans consider it to be one of BMs top songs. Sadly few reactors react to it because it is a ballad but I find it to be BMs most moving song even if I can't understand the lyrics. Lol

You totally get it! MISA (bass) and Akane (drums) are best friends and they both were going to the same music school, so they are playing together for round about 15 years. They both learned jazz, so they are improvising and Kanami (lead guitar) who writes the songs is letting them do their thing. So they are doing it, BUT it fits perfectly! It´s really unique and everyone is really talented in this band, but these two ladies are KICKASS! They all together having the perfect chemistry, if one member is leaving, there is no Band-Maid anymore, but they are so close with each other, that´s never gonna happen! And they are SO MUCH better live! A lot of their skill is gone if you listen to the tracks from an album or MV... Live is the real deal! Greetings from Germany!

Nice reaction. Part of the reason you're hearing the bass so prominent is due to this particular mix from the Shibuya live . They kind of inadvertently muffled the guitars from this mix in their effort to catch the live, audience sound, so I'd really recommend you listen to the studio version of the song to compare (it's actually posted on their YT channel). What impressed me the most about this song was not its performance, but it's composition and arrangement. The songwriting just blew me away (I first heard the studio version). I'd recommend Puzzle (live), Moratorium (live), Secret My Lips (on their YT channel), Yolo (on their YT channel) and Onset (instrumental).

Bass player was carrying on past the end...no let-up. And this was near the end of a 2 hour+ concert...such energy. I'd say there's two videos that are the guaranteed 'venus fly trap' to snag new B-M fans: First is the 'Thrill' MV...the original sort of mission statement contrast of cute visual and hard rock sound...before they wrote their own songs (and it's great song...coz THEY play it) and then this 'Domination Live' showing how far they've come...and shine as a live act. Next...'Freedom' same concert...after that...any...all good. A great song is 'Secret My Lips'. Then, for a stunning video, their April Fool joke: They posted on social media that they changed name to Band-Maiko (apprentice geisha) with MV 'Secret Maiko Lips'...reworked song with traditional instruments added and even some older vocal dialect. It was well received (no joke) so they then did a Maiko mini-album. They're a clever band and Kanami, particularly, is a superb composer.

I've seen from music teachers to vocal teachers to people that just enjoys music reacting but, you are the perfect knot in between. You sure know about music but don't need to tell that they're amazing for going from E to C to Z#&@€ and blablabla, and also you're not just the average guy that likes music. You speak with the experience of a guy that has heard a lot of music and are accurate from the beginning without too much technical talk. I love Misa. I can't say enough about her and her playing however I think you under stated the talent of the drummer (Akane) and guitarist (Kanami). All 3 are trained on their instrument, beyond a few lessons to get them by. Knowing the band, the way I do, I see that all instruments have a place in the song. All of their music is like that, especially the ones that they write. Akane is a monster on the drums. She takes that 5 piece kit and destroys it. Never misses a beat and never sounds like a warped record ( slows down then speeds up.).

Since Miku Kobato (the small pigeon) formed bandmaid with sheer force of will a dream and tanacity to make it all work out, she has since created 2 side projects that you should check out. The first was Band Maiko a new look showing them in Kimonos with heavy makeup,as a Maiko is an apprentice Geisha girl but they are playing hard as ever, A good project to embrace. The second is a group with only MIKU singing and some guitar called CLUPPO, with she describes as Hippie Poppo, featuring her in colorful hippie dresses and playing with a band of 3 young men. The songs are so good and original she should be getting reams of credit and support for her writing skills, and vocal skills with her presence and appeal. The 2 main songs I recommend are PEACE AND LOVE, and second is POGO which features her amazing ability to blend a rap style into her repertoire.. She looks really good in the closeup shots of her. What an amazing young woman, and as far as I am concerned is the best driver of her ideas and dreams in all of Japan and most of the world. Her creativity seems to have no limits. Big fan here! Also check out the multi maid series of documentaries made for each member, as she has 3 parts dedicated to her and only one for each of the other members. You will really get to know a lot about each of the members as a whole. She is the most important leader and founder of any band I have ever seen come around and blow everyone away.

Re: David Lee Roth, I read an interview with him back in the 1990's where he was talking about conveying energy to a huge crowd and he said, "You have to smile with your elbows."
Which is a funny way to talk about his showmanship over pure vocal skills, but it made me think.
    -
I have since internalized that line, and when I need to speak to a medium/large group of people, I use my hands, arms, and had position to 'emote' my point in ways that the back rows could not get if I only used eyebrows.
