Belle Nanon - French Song

- Vocals & arrangement by Farya Faraji. This is a less well known song from France, said by some to be from Brittany, although information on it is hard to find. Different versions containing similar lyrical content can be found across France, although this specific version is unique and was collected by Évelyne Girardon in a 1984 album of folk songs.
The instrumentation uses a fiddle, an accordion and a piano, the latter provides a chord progression underlying the rest of the music as is typical of modern Western music.
Lyrics in French:
Ce matin je m'en fus à sa porte,
Trois petits coups frapper.
Ce matin je m'en fus à sa porte,
Trois petits coups frapper.
«Ah, dormez-vous, sommeillez-vous,
Belle Nanon?
Si vous dormez, réveillez-vous;
Cessez, cessez, la belle;
Vous me faites me mourir.
Le régiment m'appelle;
Il faut lui obéir.
Je suis engagé pour six ans
Au régiment.
Je suis engagé pour six ans,
O adieu donc belle Nanon,
Elle lui répond, la belle:
«Six ans - c'est bien longtemps.
A qui contrai - j'mes peines,
Mes chagrins, mes tourments?
Je m'en irai là-bas, bien loin
Dedans les bois.
Je m'en irai là-bas, bien loin,
En regrettant mon cher amant.
Les garçons du village ne savent pas faire l'amour;
Toujours les mêmes paroles,
Toujours les mêmes discours.
Ils vous diront de temps en temps:
«Belle Nanon,
Ne pleurez pas sur votre amant
Car il est mort au régiment.»
Les garçons d'alentour,
Sont de forts beaux garçons;
Quand tu reviens;
English translation:
This morning I went to her door,
Three little knocks I gave,
Oh do you sleep, beautiful Nanon?
If you sleep, wake up, it's your lover who is here
The beauty took her candle,
And her white petticoat,
She opened the door to her dear lover,
She held her petticoat and said,
"Oh my dear lover,"
"Cease, cease, you beauty,
You are making me die.
The regiment has summoned me
And I must obey it.
I'm enrolled for six years in the regiment,
Farewell then, beautiful Nanon,"
The beauty answered:
"six years is far too much.
To whom shall I speak my torments and ills?
I'll go to the wood over there, far away,
And lament my lover there."
"The village boys know not how to make love.
Always the same words, always the same speeches.
They'll tell you from time to time, beautiful Nanon,
weep not for your lover, for he died in the regiment.
The boys of the region are beautiful boys,
They will make love to you at night, while you wait."
"But they're not like you my dear lover.
They're not like you for there will always be change." - Hudba

Cher M. Farya,
I do not understand how you can produce so much amazing music with real instruments so quickly while having a day job...unless you have access to a time machine and are going back in time to jam with historical musicians and secretly record it... 🤔
This must be the answer
You know their secret🤫
If Farya isn’t a time travelling musician then I don’t know what he is 🤣

Monsieur Perotin strikes again with another banger.
Merci
Right away monsieur!

Magnifique!
First time hearing this song, and I don’t regret anything. Thank you Farya for this masterpiece, hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷
I'm so delighted to hear you cover Belle Nanon! I fell in love with this song when the original uploader posted it on youtube for the first time, going on 15 years ago now.
Such heartbreaking songs of soldiers parting with their beloved are also classics in different countries;
The German, _Der treue Husar_ comes to mind, which can be heard at the end of the film, _Paths of Glory,_ and of course, _Bella ciao_ from Italy.
Drie Lillen is another good one.
I did not know this folk song, thank you !
Well done honestly it is very impressive, keep up the good work !
Une vraie merveille ❤ You sing in french as a native !
Because il est Québécois !
Un banger assuré.
Très jolie
De qualité !
Merci
You are my idol because bring me songs from ancient to modern time and carry national cultural identity
Nice
It was perfect, je vous adore ❤
Magnifique 👍
Je connaissais pas du tout ! Merci
très belle musique, merci!
Very beautiful music ❤❤🔥🔥
It’s so chill
I really enjoy your work, could you do more Georgian ones please?
Fantastic song Mr Farya Faraji! Would you make one day a Basque song ?
Thanks for the song sir!
I need more Boulets!!!
Thank you Brother ❤
That's weird. Nanon looks a lot like Nainon/Nānon, one of the various Lothringian language versions of the name Anna, and I haven't really seen it anywhere outside of Lothringia, but I've never heard of such a song, and it doesn't sound like our music at all.
Edit : so apparently the name exists in Galo as well, so that explains it !
great
Ahh yes, Le France songs, they are always good if Farya makes them.
If it's France it's good
the french prononciation is perfect wtf
Nice❤
Here before 500 views, absolute bop
nice
This song is nice. Btw do you have any plans on making any songs in Old English? Germanic languages surely are my favourite and I'd love to hear an Old English song.
I'm still hoping that one day I will see Oj Chmielu Chmielu on your channel :p
Please can you make a version of el cantar de mío Cid in a historical correct way i think it would be interesting
Early to another bop
Bro I like that you sing those songs like it is on your native language❤
Also day 7 of asking for song about Scipio Africanus do I can add that song to my Roman Empire playlist😊
In fact it is his native language.
@@xjzurv Yes, but I wanted to say on all languages (Latin, Greek, French, Persian, Serbian...). He sing it like he speaks all thoese languages
Very good! I know I've probably requested this lots of times but can you do the Serbian folk song Tri livade? It'd be a real pleasure if you could! :)
Could I have your permission to feature some of your tracks in my series? I will ensure full credit is given to you in the video descriptions, along with links to your channel and music platforms.
c'est une belle chanson aussi
arrangement you
Can you work on tranditional Vietnamese music? If you work on Vietnamese music, do you still have to learn Vietnamese? I believe you can do it
Do you know la Strasbourgiase?
I’m going off topic. So Carima Burana is just a bunch of poems? Isn’t there anything musically passed down? 😊
Some of the melodies have been passed down, some are only poems. Tempus est Iocundum is a somewhat preserved melody.
If you're talking about Carl Orff's songs though, they're all modern music with lyrics from the original poetry

Beautiful as always. I'm from Russia and I still can't believe that dude with 100% eastern appearance sings like he lived in medieval Europe for all his live. I bet a few Europeans could perform like that even if they watned to. No racism by the way, Farya is awesome, can't wait to see him doing some Russian folk stuff❤
