How One Man Flies Hundreds of Miles Using Balloons

- Remember when Carl tied all those balloons to his house in the Pixar movie “Up” and flew? Jonathan Trappe does that in real life. He attaches helium balloons to office chairs, gondolas, boats, even little houses, and he goes flying. Trappe has crossed the English Channel and soared over the Alps. He’s witnessed spectacular sunsets and glorious moonrises. Here’s how a guy who is an IT consultant by day made his wildest childhood dream a reality.

Sure did lol

Yea Ik, I’m just saying he took it literally.

Can we take a moment and appreciate the fact that the balloons are biodegradable? Thats awesome.
Agreed. When they were shown clipping away the balloons during landing, I just thought UGH NO, but the later explanation was helpful. A good way to do it!
So you took what he said as truth? Do you know the government also said that we were safe from Covid-19 and that there's no such thing as aliens or your mom?

@@masterkush8262 l.m.a.o
@@masterkush8262 it's a perfectly valid comment. Helium is being wasted en masse here when it's needed for scientific and medical uses like MRI machines.
@@rosco77365 But the medical grade helium has to be 99.9999% pure, whereas the "balloon grade" is just 99%, or even less -- which means "balloon grade" helium does NOT qualify for medical use.
I see Disney turned another movie into a live action remake
Coming out 2021
Seriously though, he kinda does looks like Carl.
He said that he was inspired by them for the house so it's the other way around.
How to remake UP on real life
isn’t it pixar who made up?
His happiness and the way he talks about his passion is contagious.
I agree. It makes me cry in a happy way
czcams.com/channels/aOViQNAoo-8qB-N3YA4Umw.html
Fantastic. The only thing I'd be terrified about is if an aircraft flies straight through the balloons.
That wouldn’t happen because you have to tell the aircraft force where you’re heading and what route so that it will make it safer for airplanes and for people that do these types of stuff. Meaning that he wouldn’t see planes in his way because his route is already reserved for him.
Very little chances of it happening because of coordinating with air traffic control and FAA
As a professional pilot, anybody who is operating an aircraft would not miss 300 colorful balloons directly in their flight path and run into them.
Hey you guys never know some dummy out there isn’t watching their jet.

2020: "A man has brought his chair and house and boat into the sky!"

Wow! "Up" was such a great movie....I didn't think this was actually possible. Wonderful
.
My Father is actually a good friend of Jonathan and In 2008 or 2009 when I was 2 or 3 he flew up in his office chair up in the sky with balloons and its the most earliest memory I have, what a great memory
I was expecting "Married life" as background music and was greatly disappointed
It’s probably copyrighted :(
You think Disney would ever allow that...
I love that he shows and tells that he did things responsibly (or as safe as he could get) and doesn’t just do this frivolously
So many balloons. They are safer than hot air balloons
Wait they are?
@@stpidstuff No - They are not safer. The risks are different. It's apples and oranges.
@@somerandomnification ah ok. Then why'd he say they're safer?
@@stpidstuff Sorry - I didn't hear Jonathan say they were safer. When did he say that? He would know better than I would.
The reason I mentioned apples and oranges is that there are differences in the way that cluster balloons, hot air balloons and gas balloons are flown - They all have their own idiosyncrasies. I'm basing that partly on things that I learned from a talk he gave on the history of lighter-than-air flight about 15 years ago, so I'm surprised to hear he made that kind of absolute statement.

Hey, they made the movie UP in real life!
I grew up with adults with no hobbies but living life miserably but doing drugs and drinking even after working, so I grew up thinking adult life is always going to be tragic and boring like that. But as I grow older and see these adults with such wonderful hobbies and dreams and achieving them even with a day job gives me hope for when I grow older.
This house is so amazing. I wish they make the concept into a movie

Thanks for making a five minute video. The one-minute videos often barely scratch the surface of the subject and leave me wanting more and unsatisfied. This covered the subject well and I'm satisfied.
If we depleted all our helium, we know now who's to blame.
I was thinking that because we have a limited supply of helium. I think it comes out of the ground at some place in Texas or something
“Man uses up last supply of helium to fly in his house”
Hell yeah dude, I hope one day I can find a hobby that makes me this happy
Honestly this is so inspiring, I’d like to earn enough to have an interesting hobby like that
The world: Is running out of Helium!
This man: Anyways, I started flying
The US government has enough reserves of helium for over a century, but it's heavily regulated.
