      @@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking I dont agree. Since they are the motherboard builder being able to show 7.3 Ghz on all cores when another brand only manage 7.314 with just 3 cores actually show significant stability gain on a MB. At those kind of clockspeeds it very clear even the groupdelay times on the different copper leads and components have significant impact if it will work or not. That is why single dual core processors can clock so much higher. Meanwhile I agree the Asus team should have run also a low core sample.

    i really enjoyed this one, its a perspective on hardware you dont get if you arent in the xoc scene with at least one foot. and reviews have mostly been "waste of sand" so getting to hear something else was a nice change of pace.
    also, about the as few cores as possible vs all cores when going for max clockspeed: imo, getting the biggest number is impressive, period. however, getting the biggest number, or a number very close to it, with all cores enabled is at least as impressive, if not a display of luck (because you have a core thats equally good across the board, or which has very high clocking lemon cores).
    it could be interesting to check/compare results by treating max frequency in general and max frequency all cores enabled as separate categories

    I think if you want to help get more people into XOC, you should make a video on which OS to use for a given benchmark, and how to properly config / mod said OS.
    I imagine some OS tweaks are closely guarded secrets...but a lot of them are probably common knowledge among all of the top OCers.
    Why not compile those commonly known OS mods into a video for anyone that is considering getting into XOC, to help level the playing field a little?
    Newbies are still going to have all the disadvantages of not knowing what they're doing and not having unlimited funds to buy and bin tonnes of hardware.
    This would make the formidable uphill battle ahead of them seem less daunting and encourage newcomers IMO.

    Although not going to the extreme of LN2 I have been gathering parts for OCing with Air & AIO cooling on LGA1155, I have made myself a TestBench with an ASUS Maximus V Extreme, for CPUs to play with I have Pentium G2120, i3-3240, i5-3570K & i7-3770K, as I want to see how Core scaling also behaves,
    For GPUs I have an ASUS RX570Strix, Sapphire RX480Nitro+ (which I have had to 1440MHz stable in Heaven) plus 2 GTX760s, a Gigabyte OC 2GB & EVGA SC 4GB, I am hoping to get some better than 1600MHz Green PCB RAM too but it's not really a good time to expand my setup,

Sounds like you can pretty well do water cooling. Would it be possible for you to do a water chiller? Or single or multi stage phase ? You can convert a window AC unit fairly easily into a water chiller or if your good with a bit lesser performance a HC500 would work pretty well and get you around 0 degrees enough that you could get a bit more headroom. I'm not sure if any of those ideas would work for you or even if you'd be interested either. I just thought I'd toss the idea out there. I’m rooting for intel even tho I run amd in my computer. I want intel to succeed as competition is good for everyone. Look at the zen 3 prices. Obviously amd raised the prices knowing intel couldn’t compete on raw performance in either productivity or even gaming anymore. I am rooting for alder lake as I dont know what would happen if intel cant pump out a 10nm desktop chip next generation. I honestly think people wouldn’t buy intel anymore if they release ANOTHER 14nm chip after MORE 10m setbacks. Intel will always be fine as a company due to embedded systems and enterprise clients, but they might literally be done in the DIY market if they cant get alder lake out successfully. I am excited for alder lake though. Lastly I do hope we see a zen 3 refresh that stays on am4 so we have one more upgrade on our current am4 boards. Zen 3 + on either a more refined 7nm or a 5 or 6nm that isnt ready for zen 4 yet would be great. Imagine 5 ghz all core boost clocks with 5-10% more ipc than zen 3. All on am4. Thats my dream. I want one more upgrade on my current board as am5 will have some teething issues due to ddr5 and typical issues associated with new platforms.

      TGL is a completely different core design, and the die already is gigantic with this small amount of cache.
      We're getting Alder Lake and the 8 core TGL CPUs soon anyways, nobody except overclockers should buy 11th gen

    • @bomjism
      @bomjism Před 3 lety

      Larger cache comes with latency penalty. In fact, TGL is slower than ICL clock-for-clock in some benchamarks because of it.

    According to a certain site, the 11900k (or was it 10900k) is by far the fastest CPU up to 8 cores. I wonder if that is the truth if running non stop with a full constant workload. I still wouldn't buy it for that because it loses by a higher percentage for work done per watt.

    Have you tried Coolalab products?
    Their Liquid Pro/Ultra products were Conductonaut alternatives that were way cheaper but didn't last as long. But the latest formula (Extreme) seems to last really well while still being a third of the price of conductonaut.

    I generally lean towards AMD doing good things these days. However - just my thoughts on the 11x family.
    1. Intel continues to FUCKING AMAZE me with what they squeeze out of 14nm. Amaze. That being said, its reheat/rehash - and you can only do this so long.
    2. The high end isn't interesting. As much as people might squeeze more out on LN or similar, the 11900k and similar is just sat as far as you can go. Its too expensive.
    3. Intel midrange is priced right, perf is good, its available in channel. AM4 is basically now end of life, so the Mobo/socket challenge of 'upgrade-able' is done for AMD. This is a hard budget space, so its about good price/perf and not being overly concerned about much beyond that.
    4. The XE drivers will be out in a few weeks. A huuuuuuuuuuuuge chunk of die space is due to the GPU piece. I don't know what that perf will be, but - BUT - if its actually AMD beating its a game changing piece given how crippled GPU space is right now.
    5. I still 'technically' prefer AMD, but we're back to a state now where its all well beyond 4 core count, and we as the consumers win win win. Amazing time as its a window of exploding innovation that had basically died until AMD started gamechanging.
    Nuff said.

      @BrianCairns Před 3 lety +1

      Rocket Lake's iGPU only has 32EUs, so it isn't going to be great. Fully enabled, Tiger Lake has 96EUs, and it wins sometimes against the AMD APUs and loses sometimes.
      The Xe graphics are going to be fine for desktop use, you get Quick Sync video encoding (which is better than the awful old encoder in AMD APUs), and Intel has better Linux support. But AMD is still going to be better for APU gaming than Rocket Lake. Of course, even something like an RX 580 or a 1060 will run circles around any APU.

    My 10900KF would run my GSKILL 3600 Trident Royal Z in XMP on my MSI Z490 Godlike mobo, but when I swapped in the 11900K yesterday, that CPU will not POST in XMP. 2666 is all it will do. I shot an email to MSI, and they replied, "seem like the processor's memory controller does not like the XMP setting with your memory module."

      @@bigcazza5260 I've been working with it all afternoon, but it won't POST above 2666. I tried setting a manual frequency just one step above stock 2666 in the BIOS with no luck. I agree with Buildziod's & John Jenkins' repies, which is why I emailed MSI to let them know. I was surprised that in less than 6 hours, MSI replied and blamed the CPU's memory controller. I had at least hoped they would take a closer look at the issue.

      @John Jenkins Thanks, but I decided when I got the Z490 Godlike that it and the Z490 Ace would be the only MSI mobos in the LGA1200 lineup for me. I've got two Maximus XII Hero mobos as well, but they don't have Gen 4 M.2 sockets, so 10th gen CPUs are staying in them. The 10900KF went into the MSI Ace mobo, since it doesn't have an IGPU power stage anyway, so I've got the 10900KF and 11900K systems side by side.
