TL;DW: the 0x125 micro code runs about 50mv less Vcore for 6GHz boost with my CPU. So instead of 1.5V it runs 1.45V. However 8T cinebench still gets all the way upto 1.4V even at around 80C which I don't really think is safe. I'm guessing intel will probably lower voltages even more with the August update. Even though CPU is locked and tied to all the buses I could still push it 40% or so on stock cooler (with the help of my dad, lol, drilling into the case strategically and placing more fans). Even with all that torture it lasted from 2006 all the way to 2015, and BIOS resets (we have unstable power) were felt so hard that some games were borderline unusable at stock.

For the record. I have an Asus Strix z790i. I bought a 13700k a week ago (good deals on Amazon for open box returns right now because people are returning them out of fear). Paid $235. So keep in mind this is still technically a brand new chip. With the Asus bios update that includes the microcode, my system is running flawlessly. I didn't have to change a single setting. I still might, but I didn't have to. Average voltages never go past 1.295v. At full load it's not going over 1.350v. Idle temps are 25-28c. Max temps while benchmarking are 75c with 280 AIO. It hits 1.4v very rarely. I've noticed it happens during startup and then never hits it again until I restart. Going to look into that but I'm not concerned with it. Cinebench 30204 with stock settings and microcode 0x129. 👍

Going back to Gigabyte OPTIMIZED profile, lowers the CPU temps and vcore.

Thank you for this guide. I have a question. As I understand the reason 6000mhz is the sweet spot isn't because of the motherboard but the chip itself. Would it be smart for me to buy 7000mhz or even 8000mhz ram now for future proofing? Since I'm guessing future AM5 chips will be able to support it reliably? I'm upgrading to AM5. That's why I'm curious.

    Aw, my specially crafted comment with Unicode monospace font for better readability doesn't seem to have gone through, so here's an ASCII only version with worse readability. -------------------- Did you measure the LLC impedances for the Z690 board in the video? I tried to measure the values for my MSI Z790 Carbon WiFi board, with the following results: LLC____DC LL___Impedance Auto __110 ____1.10 mOhm ____100.00 % 1 ______10 ____0.10 mOhm ______9.09 % 2 ______17 ____0.17 mOhm _____15.45 % 3 ______22 ____0.22 mOhm _____20.00 % 4 ______29 ____0.29 mOhm _____26.36 % 5 ______36 ____0.36 mOhm _____32.73 % 6 ______61 ____0.61 mOhm _____55.45 % 7 ______88 ____0.88 mOhm _____80.00 % 8 _____110 ____1.10 mOhm ____100.00 % I hope I managed to measure them correctly, I'm not sure. I've also measured resp. noted down the MSI Lite Load Modes for my board, which are as following: Mode______AC LL___DC LL Mode 1: ____1 _______1 ___0.010 mOhm ___0.010 mOhm Mode 2: ____5 _____110 ___0.050 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 3: ___10 _____110 ___0.100 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 4: ___15 _____110 ___0.150 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 5: ___20 _____110 ___0.200 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 6: ___25 _____110 ___0.250 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 7: ___30 _____110 ___0.300 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 8: ___35 _____110 ___0.350 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 9: ___40 _____110 ___0.400 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 10: __50 _____110 ___0.500 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 11: __60 _____110 ___0.600 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 12: __70 _____110 ___0.700 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 13: __80 _____110 ___0.800 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 14: __90 _____110 ___0.900 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 15: _100 _____110 ___1.000 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 16: _110 _____110 ___1.100 mOhm ___1.100 mOhm Mode 17: _120 _____120 ___1.200 mOhm ___1.200 mOhm Mode 18: _130 _____130 ___1.300 mOhm ___1.300 mOhm Mode 19: _140 _____140 ___1.400 mOhm ___1.400 mOhm Mode 20: _150 _____150 ___1.500 mOhm ___1.500 mOhm Mode 21: _160 _____160 ___1.600 mOhm ___1.600 mOhm Mode 22: _170 _____170 ___1.700 mOhm ___1.700 mOhm Mode 23: _180 _____180 ___1.800 mOhm ___1.800 mOhm So as the DC LL stays at 1.10 mOhm, I'm not sure if LLC Level 3 + Lite Load Mode 3 would actually give usable results? At least it goes against the "match your LLC impedance" recommendation.

I understand what is going on I am just less stable idling in windows at max OC than gaming or doing benchmarks. Does my 12900k need even more voltage to idle? I'm not comfortable with voltages over 1.45v ever. I found a good way to really punch your cpu with a load. Run windows defender full scan and wait for the 100% usage to kick in.
