The reason why the free mission is better is because it's the advertisement for the paid package, once it's sold, you don't need to try as hard. Doom 1993's free shareware episode was noticeably tighter then the later episodes for a similar reason.

13:00 More Coop PVE difficulty examples that go beyond "bullet sponge go brrrrr":
    - In Payday 2, the difficulty transition from Normal to Overkill introduces new specialist police units (the bulldozer, cloaker, medic, etc) that don't appear on the lower difficulty. This comes alongside damage and health buffs for all units. The transition from Very Hard to Death Wish also gives the Bulldozer some new weapons he has a chance to spawn with (automatic shotgun on Overkill, and light machine gun on Death Wish), changing how you fight him. These difficulties are kind of "cookie cutter health and damage increase" but also add unique enemies or equipment to the mix to target or promote certain playstyles and skills.
    - In Killing Floor 2, common specimens don't gain any extra health with each difficulty increase, but they become increasingly erratic and agile in their movements (making it difficult to line up a headshot) and gain new attacks that allow them to dish out more damage to the player. Also, "elite" variants of certain common fodder specimens start appearing. By contast, the large zeds (chainsaw scrake or fleshpound) DO get some more health, but they also get new attacks and rage behaviors thrown into the mix, further punishing players who aren't working with the rest of the team.
    - In Deep Rock Galactic, increasing the difficulty causes swarm numbers and duration to increase, and also increases the variety of tough bugs which may be alive at once. Most bugs deal more damage and have some more health as a result of difficulty, but never so much so that they're unsatisfying to shoot. Also, this could be placebo or bad luck, but I have a hard time finding ammo resources like Nitra on Hazard 5, even if I'm moving through the cave as fast as I usually do on the lower difficulties, as if all the nitra got put in the last room of the cave just to keep me from resupplying.
    - In TF2, a single map may support multiple "missions", each with their own unique difficulty. Lower difficulty missions usually just throw robots at you, while higher difficulty ones tend to introduce the coordination-demanding uber medics, more powerful giant bots, more troublesome support bots (like snipers and engineers), and often times just more powerful combinations of high damage robots. Because each difficulty is actually a hand designed mission, of which there may be multiple, each one feels fresh and unique to experience for the first time.

One other thing I noticed with a lot of PvE games is the audio design for the special enemies. In Deep Rock Galactic, if you hear a choppy growling, you’re instantly filled with dread knowing a Bulk Detonator spawned in. Or if you hear a screeching from across the cave at the very beginning of the mission, you’re excited because it’s a Crassus. In Vermintide 2, if you hear a rattling, you’re instantly panicking because you know someone is about to get snatched by a giant rat.
In Payday 2, if you hear a clanging sound, you know you’re in deep shit because Captain Winters just came in. Because the enemies are so basic and generic in Overwatch 2, you’re not scared or excited for special enemies. Which in my opinion really downgrades it.

Watching this footage of smashing endless waves of bullet sponge robots got me itching to play Borderlands 2. They went HARD on the robots in that game. The LOADER footsoldiers could be dismembered until they can only drag themselves with a single arm. Destroying their right arm gets rid of their gun/main weapon. Their left, their offhand weapon or grenade. Could shoot off their legs to slow them down. Even when they lose all their main weapons, they can still shoot from their eye.
All these things combined with tons of dynamic subtypes makes fighting them still fun after more than a decade.
BULOADERS have a shield and can use it in a charge attack, prompting you to remove its shield arm or just over them. EXPLOADERS are fast and try to suicide bomb you, so you should aim for their legs to slow them down or their glowing core to detonate them from a distance. WARLOADERS have a barrage attack that has a long cooldown, forcing players to seek cover and choose their moments. And tons more!
There's also the fact that they work together to cover their own weaknesses. Damaged Loaders will signal surveyor drones to come repair them. If players hide behind cover too long they might throw grenades or move closer. They will hide under shields deployed by IONLOADERS to protect themselves.
They feel like an actual army with strengths and weaknesses, the latter of which they attempt to cover with unit synergy. And this is all in a game over 10 years old. That is the sort of design I'd expect from a "genre-redefining" PVE experience.

I don't mean to compare the games in some "Overwatch bad" way, but I would like to compare this to MvM. The games have plenty of differences, but there is a few that I feel show what Blizzard did wrong here (other than, y'know, everything).
MvM, most obviously, has an UPGRADE SYSTEM. It lets you diversify between every game and change how you play, even if the meta is still the most viable. It gives the game mode replayability. Overwatch 2 was going to have that, but we all know what happened there.
MvM provides you with a large assortment of maps that either have some small gimmicks, or missions that have unique "boss enemies." The waves also generally have more diversity, but that's not as prominent. OW has a few unique enemies that I will admit are better than the ones in MvM generally, but there's such a small amount that they'll get stale so quickly.
But most importantly, MvM can be played completely free. You can't gain loot, but you can play boot camp to enjoy the gamemode properly, instead of just one mission. But obviously Blizzard would ruin something with a paywall.
Overall, I feel like pointing these things out just helps show all the issues with this PvE mode. It shows that it COULD'VE been amazing. It's just worse in most ways other than "It has OW characters and gameplay." Overwatch players are fully entitled to be angry at this because its an almost objectively worse version of a concept made like eleven years ago. Class-based shooters with a PvE mode can be lovely, and this just isn't.

I could use Roadhog to whole hog the Talon mercs off their boats into the water, or use Sombra's hack to disable the Nulsec shield guys in Kings Row. For Canadian players, it costs $20.19, which is also when they announced Overwatch 2 in the first place. Don’t know if that’s an intentional middle finger to the fans or not, but just a funny little thing I noticed.

It's odd how Underworld was seen as the most polished part of the INVASION update, the missions also had RNG stuff like the missiles and the Ult charge zones, stuff that is not really present on the paid missions and could have given them some strategical tactics to play with.

That’s when you realize it’s only worth $15 because and I quote in their standards. Each Mission is worth five dollars so depending on how many missions they release is how much money it’s gonna cost

Don't forget the scrapped customization either, one of the biggest reasons to even try the PvE at all. Reminds me of the odyssey mode from league of legends, basically a ramping siege with absurd customizable options where you got to feel like anime characters; but ever since they dropped the mode for being 'unpopular', they never brought back anything remotely like it with the lazy excuse they can't spare the server power. No surprise both have only been dying in recent years lol.

The reason TF2's PvE works well is because of many factors, but here's a couple ones:
    1. Its like, dirt cheap.
    2. You actually get cool (and expensive) stuff from it.
    3. It promised what it promised and got what was promised.
    4. It had a unique idea for PvE with upgrades. (At the time)
    5. The bosses are hard but simple.
    6. Tanks. Just.. Tanks.
    7. It's easy to queue. Like, 2 second waiting easy queue.
    8. Tf2 doesn't have a community that runs on Copium and can be very funny.
    9. No updates to ruin it :D
    10. *ITS NOT OVERWATCH*

ill say this once and ill say it again, we need to boycott overwatch, CZcamsrs will Still make thousands of videos on why this game is "fun" and "enjoyable", the best way to boycott this game is a saveTF2 type protest, or maybe just stop playing en mass, but no, because people will still be inspired by grand master youtubers that content farm this games "new" balance notes, and competitive things

In Team Fortress 2, you have to killbind, respawn, spend all your minigun ammo and be fast enough to pick up the minigun left after killbind before it disappears to T-pose
This is a pure skill, game knowlege, dedication to the game and to the memes
In Overwatch 2, you can pay 26 dollars to t-pose, and it doesn't involve any skill and game knowlege, only money

Know what? I think the paid missions are already made well way back when a long time ago, before the price tag for these missions are decided or even before that. The paid missions were made beforehand using outdated boring and static formula the original OW PVE, the paid PVE gets announced, Blizzard scrambled a team to make a new free PVE mission to entice the masses, and these guys actually thought of putting good stuff like varied mission condition with that missile artillery and varied enemy spawn.

Again, you need to remember. This isn’t a mistake to Blizzard. This is by design.
With most big game studios, the orders come from the top. The executives and managers who’re beholden to the shareholders. The developers? The artists? They don’t get to refine shit unless the top says they can. They can ask to fix bugs and polish the game, but unless it’s unplayable without it, they’re going to be told to leave it and get back to “real work”
For the executives, their goal is to make as much money as they can for themselves and the shareholders over maybe 5-10 years, then get out with a golden parachute.
It is not in their interest to make a good game with a sustainable player base. Making a functional game is not the goal. The goal is to wring as much money out of the franchise as they can. Then, when things start collapsing, the people in charge bail and leave the problem to the suckers who take over. And, of course, leave it to all the people under them who can’t just leave with a golden parachute.
Their goal as a company is not to make good games.
Their goal is not to appease players.
Their goal is to make more money for their shareholders this quarter than they did the quarter before.
As long as there are still whales willing to blow money on this game, nothing will change. They will squeeze the ise people for every drop they can get. And once the whales leave, once it starts to decline, the execs will say to drop overwatch completely.

Lmfao back in the day I just spent 15 euro in Overwatch and could enjoy all the events, heroes and unlockables without extra money. I could buy lootboxes but I could also just earn them. Basically it was a good game just like Left 4 Dead, a one-time payment that's it.
Now it's a shitshow of anticonsumer practices pay to win heroes and extremely overpriced microtransactions which have nothing of micro becauae for that price I can just buy 5 games lmao

I find it sad that the first three missions of the PVE are $15 because I found a pc copy of Overwatch Origins Edition for that exact price on clearance at a Walmart. A game mode offering only an hour and a half of content of content with no replayability is worth the same amount as the special edition of the first game that isn't even possible to play anymore.

Tangentially related, making Twitter users mad will always be hilarious.
I'm convinced half if not most of the people on Twitter have it to be mad. It's that one meme of Peter Parker saying "No! I'm almost enjoying my anger!"
Anyway. I didn't play the game when it first came out but one of my first experiences was Quick Play back when it had No Limits, everyone was Winston and it was a great time.
I could always artificially recreate that setting but I've almost never felt the same joy since. Only in custom games do I get any entertainment out of the game, and the community make better content than the devs do at this rate.

When they showed off the PvE long ago, I was interested, but more do mad that they were literally ripping off the game that was my favorite and they killed long ago. BATTLEBORN. Luckly, the players of Battleborn have started a patition to bring the better game back.

7:16 it doesn’t even need that! It just needs to be at its core: FUN
In TF2’s MVM everything stays the same, except for the type of Robots, when, and where Spybots spawn, engiebots, and giant bots.
Because fighting the robots in MVM is just *FUN*.
