It's December in the rolling Berkshire hills of Western Massachusetts and my friends and I spend our days working on my off-grid cabin, cleaning out an old house, enjoying a huge blizzard, x-country skiing and I spent a quaint Christmas with my family.

Spent my boyhood winters in New England. You guys are just doing basic ordinary things but somehow managing to turn it into heartfelt storytelling. We see lives unfolding and a slice of New England most people don't see. You turn hardship into humor and eloquence, and by doing so manage to turn your life into an experience worth following from afar. I recall this type of existence from my youth, but we didn't have the means to turn it into art. Nor would have anyone thought to do so. I'm so glad you did. Cheers.

Man this scenery and houses and towns just take me back! We lived in CT for 18 yrs and raised our kids there, we are now back in the west but this video sure makes me miss it there! We totally understand about being overwhelmed by projects to do. We bought an old A frame that needed complete over hall inside and out , up and down. It's been nearly 2 yrs and we are just coming down the home stretch! The Berkshires are SO beautiful! I loved what you said about those New Englanders who live there by choice secretly admiring winter. We had moved there in 2000 from born and raised Californians as 30 yr olds. We couldn't even comprehend WINTER! We arrived at our home on 2 acres of woods at 9pm and we and our 6 children just stood and stared at the HUGE full February moon just hanging over the trees and the snow glistening and it was almost a bright as daylight! I was instantly and for ever after in love with New England winter. I never knew how snow insulates and "quiets" all noise. How snow days could be just the thing our family needed to re-group. So...so beautiful. We get snow here but it's not the same.
Every time I hear your voice at the start of a video, it has the iconic effect, kinda like being the American David Attenborough or something. You just know you're watching something special, and this christmas special was certainly a delight.

"Seeing the smoke from the chimney made the dream seem one step closer." Boy, did I totally get that! There is a sort of nostalgic romanticism in seeing smoke slowly rising in calm air from a chimney, especially from a cabin in the woods chimney. 👍

We had over 4 feet snow drifts in my yard from that storm. It was so sad to see it melt a week later, all in less than 24 hours. Greetings from Vermont!

Seeing you chugging along in the truck reminds me so much of the '64 Falcon my dad had for us to drive in the '80s.
He had it painted turquoise & the interior he kept red and kept the whitewalls gleaming. Huge beaming headlights, bench front seat, lap only seatbelt like the airplanes, a metal dashboard (no cell phones and I could put directions to temp jobs right there under a fridge magnet😂). It had a single signal indicator, metal rimmed roll down windows, & he even put in a radio that played fm just for me😊 & that heat KICKED through those Long Island winters!
Kids at my high school teased me mercilessly calling me Herman Munster's girlfriend or Batgirl (although the taillights weren't THAT flared🙄), how many suitcases could I fit in the trunk🤔, & on & on.
Funny how that teasing stopped whenever it rained and they had to wait for the bus in a downpour😏
I can relate to the decorations, too. I also have childhood Christmas ornaments AND the Woolworth's box w the little compartments to cradle them in storage. All hand painted. It's been 48 yrs and only one has been shattered.
And friends & neighbors w Cod warm and snug from that first September chill to mid- to late spring just felt so right. Missing my home of four seasons, too.
We transplanted south 30 yrs ago and the first year, I dubbed GA the land of two seasons: hot & NOT😂.
