Thx for that. I remember also when it starting blowing up around '90, before Foo (RIP), Little (RIP), and Parsons came a few years later. Was just Clark. Seems like show-business these days. We were working-up to it for a couple years in that cove just a little north where it breaks left, plus pushing big OB, big Fort, big Scott's, HIIT running, breath hold at pool , etc etc. I had just got a T&C shaped for Mavericks a month prior to a severe injury in early '92. Gave it to a Hawaiian friend when it was clear I was hopeless for truly surfing again.

@@johndoe9608 Over the falls on a wave south of Mussel Rock, '92. L ankle, L-side lower back muscles, L shoulder. None flexed or operated properly again. Walk with a limp. Detached retina. Cancer. Grateful though. Occasionally still go out when it's 3-5' for a few laughs at myself. C'est la vie.
It was back in 1985 when I moved to NorCal. I paddled out at Surfer’s Beach with booties and proper thickness wetsuit but had no hoodie. My first Duck Dive I thought my head it concrete! No just the cold hard reality of cold ass water. Go to the ridge when it’s on and watch rolling Mountains of Cold Water move. It is a Graceful wave. R.I.P. Mark Foo
I lived in Santa Cruz in the early 80’s. We called them “ice cream headaches.”

The small percentage actually surfing the beast are of a different breed. Could u imagine bailing at the bottom of a drop with 5 more behind it to deal with? Raw ocean power and had to remind myself to keep breathing as the channel view shows the precision of what wave will allow you in and what transpires if u pick the one with the bottom falling out before your a quarter of the way down and the impact blows my mind and the best short video of Mavericks i have ever seen. Thanks for this collection!

I'm I wrong that those are 50ft+ waves? As a teen in 1969 and on we watched these waves from the cliffs few knew anything about them even fewer dared to take them on.

These boards are inadequate. All they are doing is surviving, not aggressively taking on the waves. As a matter of fact, a properly designed and tuned board could come from deeper inside the shoulder.
You cannot transfer short board small wave principals into something of a different realm just buy making them longer.
My credentials??? Well as far as I know I'm the only man to walk on the moon surferphorically speaking..... That is upside down in the top the tube and how that vortex unfolds is something I alone, only know.
On these large waves the technology is not far advanced from the early days of Waimea Bay.
The greatest debilitator to any progress is fan boy group think.... I will take my knowledge with me into the new world under Christ and have the opportunity to carry out concepts.
