Dear Andrew, as always thanks for your lovely ideas and sharing them! Actually there are two additionally ways to record depending on the Gear that's used. First: On the newer DJM Models you can usw the Multi I/O, connect your Smartphone with the DJM-REC APP (Free for 30 Days). Second: if you use a Mixer that's of the newer generation they often got an included Audio Interface already build in.
I have done this a few times, in the past but handled slightly different, my wife is a huge Trance fan (i don't mind Trance but its never been my go too Genre) i as you could put it i gave her the key to the car, to get her involved in what i was doing put her on Soundeo, asked her to pick tracks that she wanted, and i then did the hard part of putting it together for her. Not letting her hear it until it was completed. She loved it and still plays it today. Any mix i do for someone i also have a sub title somewhere on my Album Cover so it can aways be seen who the mix is kind of dedicated too. It's also does not have to be for love but can also be a great way to pick up new followers, as the people you do these for will normally share these with their friends, meaning that you can pick up a lot me listens to your mixes. Anyway great video once again Andrew keep them coming
I was a kid when I was using a walkmen and my uncle had some 80's and 90's music videos on VHS so I also watched those to. It wasn't trance (rather Depeche Mode, Michael Jackson, Jean Michelle Jarre, MC Hammer, John Farnham and even Modern Talking) but it was awesome. Thanks for bringing those memories back :D When it comes to making a set for someone... well it backfired once for me. I did it for this one girl (it wasn't Valentines) as she was having some rough time with exams. When I gave it to her she was like "meh, I thought you made a track for me". So I guess this is a lesson for us all: if a girl is not appreciating your gift (which took time, effort and, most importantly, heart) it's not the one guys :D
Personally for club kit, i just use a Reloop Tape. An all in one unit that records any output onto SD card as 320kb MP3. I have it strapped to a large USB power bank and its good for about 10hrs. With my controller (MC7000), i just hit record in Serato. Job done.
Sweet idea for the valentines mix! Definitely unique that not many people can do! Can’t wait for the DDJ-400 video. I’m thinking about buying a Denon Prime 4 but maybe I can stick to my 400 until I really “need” the Denon. Thanks for being a great mentor, teacher and motivator.
Remember doing mixtapes on cassettes a long long long time ago as a wee one at School for your Girl. Sit their for Hours trying to catch the track on the Radio to record it then rinse repeat for Days lol. Man its so so so easy today, every Tune a click away you don't have to sit there literally cutting and splicing Tape together to cut out the shit bits. Then we got Twin Cassette players so you didn't have to splice Tape lol.
fyi - free version of serato doesn’t support recording and even the paid version doesn’t allow you to record anything streaming. Thankfully latest version of dj pro has a virtual audio cable support and you can record straight into audacity. I’ve got one of those red behringer usb audio devices - they seem to do the job.
Just to add the behringer is a great interface to send output to OBS for great sounding live streams from your laptop via usb........................ Another great vid Andrew, you old romantic.......
Hey club ready DJ school, I’ve taught myself all the basics and a few intermediate skills on my ddj400 and have started making my first set. When I listen back to it I feel like I’m jumping genres too much. Any idea on how to overcome this obstacle? Or tips to improve my set? Thanks

Hello everyone! Im just getting startet DJing and recently got my first, nice monitor boxes. Now that I can finally play my set's loud and proud I wand to equip my room with some sound dampening. My question is: Does the quality really matter or does the cheapest foam you can buy online compare to the foam that is especially made for studios? Edit: Another question that comes to my mind is: Where do I put the padding? The room im playing in is also half sloping roof, so there is that.
Hi, thanks for the great content once again. Do you know if it records the mic input as well? So if I have a mic plugged in and I use it to play sax does garage band record it in the mix or not. Thanks 🙏
Guys I’m I the only one that I can never find a way to record my music on rekordbox, I use SoundCloud for my music and my controller is the dj 400 pioneer. Any help please and thank you 🙏🏽
Sorry, but just quickly, I usually just export to a 128 MP3 - this isn't ideal for club set ups, but I don't plan to play my pre recorded set in a club, it's more for personal use, and the smaller file sizes load quicker and still sound great through a little system.
You only need the output if you want to hear back what you played, otherwise I just unplug it after recording to hear it back - so long story short, no I don't use output on it.
Hello Andrew Thanks for this great video. I’ve been recording my mixes with the method you have shared here. I have a DJM 700 so using the Rec connection. I’ve noticed i loose a lot of my sound quality when recording this way. meaning my mix doesn’t have the same loudness as my original tracks. Do you know if there is a way to go around that or to prevent from loosing audio quality while using proper club gear ? The mixes I used to do with my controller (straight to my computer) sounded way better but I got rid of my controller now and was hoping to be able to have to same sound quality with my current gear. Thanks in advance for you help and for all your great vids !
I updated Rekordbox a few days back and I can still record. (I don't pay for any rekordbox plan). First second after you said that about not being able to record, I thought "OH SHIT!" and ran to the laptop to see if I can still record. And I can. (thank GOD! 😁) cheers!
Ahh that’s interesting I noticed an update yesterday but ignored it hopefully that was the fix as I couldn’t record last week I’ll check the update when I finish work 👍
I’ve just updated and still has a padlock 🔒 on the rec button and when I click on it it flashes up “you cannot use this function with your current plan”🤷🏻♂️

I'm curious from which recording method you get the best audio quality. I never tried trough an audio interface. I only used rekordbox and I don't really feel that it's amazing.
@@ClubReadyDJSchool I also have an interface and if I need to use it I will buy can you tell me for the 400 how the cable connections are ran...from master output, speakers and interface? Ty
Andrew, I’ve just purchased a UCA222 but I get an echo sound when recording on my ddj-400 on a MacBook air (2020) if I put the EQs down on the unused deck it’s ok but if I level the EQs on non selected deck I get an echo effect on playback? Any ideas?
If using a controller I'd just record directly onto Rekordbox - using RB's inbuilt recording feature. You only need the UCA to connect club gear to a computer to record
It would've been awesome if you also covered how to optimise the audio on your mix in the software (garage band/audacity) after it's been recorded to get it to a level where it sounds good next to other mixes on Soundcloud etc. I tend to find that mine end up sounding a bit too quiet compared to what most other people are uploading.
In short I suggest that you make sure your recording levels are just under the reds (this was discussed in the video), however as for export settings, I usually just export to a 128 MP3 - this isn't ideal for club set ups, but I don't plan to play my pre recorded set in a club, it's more for personal use, and the smaller file sizes load quicker and still sound great through a little system and I have never noticed any difference between mine and other people, so I think if yours sounds soft it'll come down to the levels when you are recording (which was discussed - look at the waveforms as you record - big =, but not so big it touches edges - see video for more :)
Hi, I’ve received my ddj400s, and I’m still getting used to all this early starting. I don’t have a pc or Mac but I’ve got an iPad Pro. Can I still record ?
I've never tried to to connect a controller to an IPAD but I am almost certain it operates in the same way, best thing is to just give it a go and see for yourself :)

Hey thanks for the video. I’m trying to record out of my RMX 1000 (because I want to superpose the filters from the DJM, therefore the RMX is not linked to the send/return). Therefore I was thinking only using one output and using a 2 output sound card (one for the speaker and one for the laptop) What would you advise? Thanks!
It's a little older than some of the new stuff out now but the DSLR70D - had for about 4 years and it's never skipped a beat - only issue is it only records for 28 minutes so when doing sets and you're approaching the 28 minute mark, you'd have to quickly jump put from behind the decks and then stop it and hit record again - which is a little bit of a pain.
Sometimes, but otherwise I use a Roland R26 as this means I can also record my voice as the UCA222 is more for one channel only - but mix wise, I can't hear difference between the 2, but they are both used for different purposes.
It seems Rekordbox 6 can now record free of charge - score! Sorry for the mistake :(
