Hi Kate, I know what you mean about the oil at the top of the jars of natural peanut butter. I store my unopened jars upside down. As the oil rises, it starts working its way to the other side of the jar and it's easier to mix.
Hi Kate. I totally agree that as a society we've gotten way out of hand with all of our clothes. As a kid, I got 1 pair of shoes for the school year. I wore uniforms all my school life except for the last 3 years of school and then college. I only had a couple of casual clothes for daily life, a couple of church outfits, flip flops for warm weather, pj's for warm weather and a set for colder weather. That's a lot really. I kind of live the same way. I still wear a "uniform" so to speak. Leggings, T-shirt and flip flops.
I remember my mom putting our Easter dresses and Christmas clothes on layaway at Kmart and some winter clothes from Sears. Ahhhh, those were the days.
the kitchen cabinets update all of them white, with the trim white, and pantry trim white, and the paint with your paint colour🤎for the pantry.
Hello Kate, thank you for being real and relatable
I am watching your videos for a second time. They comfort me the scenery. I live in Detroit I hate it. Thank you for your videos. The yard is beautiful.
It’s so hard to live somewhere where we are not happy and love what we’re surrounded by. I’m so sorry.
Healthy Elizabeth recently did a scratch cooking video where she made homemade corn tortillas and used them in enchiladas. I thought of you and your homemade tortillas while watching it. She also makes wonderful looking food all from scratch
Ooh, I’ll check her channel out.
Thank you for sharing the channel. I checked it out, and it looks great.
We buy 5litres of castille soap and use that for hand soap. It's just us 2 so it lasts for well over a year! I have a collection of essential oils so I have fun making different scent blends for them too.
Good morning! I'm getting ready to spend the morning baking some muffins and making some potato salad for tomorrow's beach trip.
I'm so happy to see another video from you. ❤ Your smile makes my day.
Thank you for the reminder on potato salad, I keep meaning to make some, it's such a summer food. Ah, the beach, we have to drive hours, I miss it. Enjoy!
You inspired me, Kate. My sourdough is on Day 4 and she’s bubbling. Just made a tomato pie and it was delish.
Valerie in SC
How fun! Never heard of tomato pie 🥧
@@CoffeeWithKate4 you have to try it! Search Edisto Tomato Pie. A SC lowcountry favorite. Easy and yummy.
I love tomato pie!!! Definitely going to try and find that recipe. Up to $12 to buy a couple of years ago so even more now I’m sure. Where are you in SC Valerie? I am in MB😊💕🏝️
@@debbie303hi, neighbor! I’m in Florence county. My son is moving to Horry county this month. The Edisto pie recipe is the best one!
Yeah, the nurseries started putting regular start that would be in a six pack into a four inch pot and now charging $4 each instead of 6 for $3. I noticed it this year. I'm still going to buy them because I don't do well growing food from seed.
Same here.
I use the weed whacker on the weeds growing in cracks of stone and cement. Works wonders. Kind of turn it a bit on its side. FYI - unscrew that squirt top and add the water - so much easier!
A shed and those little backyard projects will be nice when it’s an all done for you guys. It just takes a little time with any home project stuff. I love your yard more and more all the time. I only have a front porch where I live. But I make it cozy and I am growing lettuce and basil in containers and have some flowers and a couple little gnome gardens set up.
That sounds very sweet.
I love a toaster oven. I hardly ever use my oven anymore.
Cross contaminating peanut butter and jam jars within the family home has to be done 😁 I was specifically waiting to see what you were going to do and would have been disappointed if you didn’t! *goes to cupboard to see if we have any peanut butter to make the same…
😀 thank you for appreciating my cross contamination. All the pb jars have bits of jelly or honey. We practice imperfection here.
We have a good size property and have seven pecan trees. We bought this house 22 years ago we used to get bags and bags of pecans. We have noticed the production is a little less but it’s also the squirrels. It seems like the squirrel population in this area has gone way up. Most people have a pecan tree in their yard and we find a lot of them chewed up on the ground but we rarely get any for ourselves anymore. Between the ones they bury and the ones they bite and leave there there’s not been much for us in probably 10 years. Our house is 100 years old and the trees are all very mature. They’re healthy and look good but we’ve given up ever getting any more pecans. We are putting in a big garden this winter for next spring and hoping that we can keep the squirrels out of that. As far as loofahs when we live in the inland empire of California we had really good luck growing them there but we have not tried them since we’ve been in North Texas the last 22 years. I plan on trying to grow them next spring when we plant our garden.
Like you we’ve got a lot of planning going on in our backyard. A greenhouse made out of windows we got a big pool we’re putting up the garden a fire pit and we want to put in like a horseshoe pit and just have a lot of fun things in our yard. Such a blessing to have a big yard to do things and we want to start taking advantage of it finally now that my husband retired! He was always too busy before.
How exciting about you husband retiring!!! He has had such trouble with his back, I'm very happy for you both. 🍾🎉🙌
Good afternoon I hope you are staying cool , where I live in N. Calif. normally this time of the year it would be in the 80’s it is well into the hundreds. For weeds in the cracks on the driveway my husband uses a combination of 1 gallon of vinegar, 1 to 2 T. Of dawn dish soap and 1/2 to 1 cup of epsom salts. He mixes it up and sprays the weeds. Your sourdough starter looks amazing I’ve always been intimidated by the process.
Me too but it’s working…though it’s not very sour doughish
Hi Kate! I live in zone 5 and grow luffa and gourds. You should have plenty of time to grow them. If they are getting flowers but no fruit or the flowers fall off, they aren't getting pollinated. Your leaves are probably getting too big and full, and the pollinators can't reach the flowers. Thin some of the leaves off around the flowers, so the pollinators can get in.
Maybe I’ll try next year.
We're in 8b in a valley between two mountain ranges at nearly 5000 ft. Loofa is persnickety! For success with Loofa, they need direct sun most of the day, a big strong trellis, and loads of water. When I say loads of water, I meam LOADS AND LOADS of water. The first year I tried loofa it was an epic failure. The second year was successful with the previously mentioned tips. We have one nectarine tree in our small orchard and it never does much. In contrast, peaches are prolific!! Nectarines must be persnickety as well.
Thank you! I gave up on loofa but maybe next year.
Good morning! Having a coffee break so tuned in for a bit. Love your making your own sourdough starter! Your family is in for a treat for sure! I was given a starter and been loving baking from it, so therapeutic for me. Have a wonderful day Kate!
Good morning! Making bread is therapy. 🥖
I also save the small slivers of bath soap bars to turn into hand soap once a have a bag of them saved. Works great! I hate wasting anything, especially money! Ha!
I know. I work hard to not waste.
The tortilla pizzas must've been a hit! Great idea to make your own hand soap with a grated bar of regular soap, I'm going to try that. Enjoyed this!
I grew up like that with the cloths. Church and good cloths which included school. Play cloths and Jammie. Don't even think a out wearing "play cloths once " we wore them all week if they weren't a mess. One towel per person for all week. Took a bath, dried off, towel was clean and hung up to dry. Didn't bother us. Mom had a wringer washer
I bet the wringer washer cleans better than the machines. Yes?
Yes it did !!@CoffeeWithKate4
I love old houses and have lived in several, they always have bdrm closets of about 2 sq ft, haha. They had their one Sunday best, and 2 change of work clothes for the week. Your patio area will be great.
oh Kate! thank u so much for the hand soap recipe and how to make it. i am so doing this. thank u ! thank u!!
The tablecloth makes all the difference!!
Hi Kate, I LOVE your kitchen table. To me it looks warm, homey. Have a good day.❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Hi Kate, just wanted to let you know that it could be a mouse eating your seedlings as well. Maybe set a mouse trap at night to see if you catch anything. Love it when you do these outside chats! I love your oasis! It’s beautiful ♥️
I wanted to add another quick comment to say be careful when you make your own laundry detergent because I’ve read a lot of articles recently when I was thinking about doing it that they can ruin washers because washers are not meant to have just regular soap in them. Just something to check into before you do it!
I've read this too. I gave up the dream, I couldn't find a good recipe with guarantees.
Hahaha I live on pbj for work lunches
I love pbj’s. Very filling.
Try taking a large yellow piece of plastic bugs love yellow cover it in corn syrup they will stick to the plastic
Great idea.
Look at the ingredient list of all your lotions, shampoos, conditioners etc. If the first ingredient is water, you can add water to make it stretch. We don’t need full strength lotion all over our bodies. Mine are about 50/50. My shampoo i won’t water down. It becomes too liquidy and i end up using more which defeats the whole purpose. My hair is thick(ish) and curly.
Re gardening; i’ve only planted a few potted tomatoes. The starts for organic plants is 6$ at lowe’s. For 6$ i can buy 3-4 bags of frozen organic veggies all ready to eat. So, i will. I’ll buy from the local farmer, too, for fresh. (I still have frozen corn from last year.)
I love all your plans moving forward. I wish i could get my husband to wield a paintbrush. He hates me to paint but i think i need to just get going. He’s taking too many years in between jobs for my liking. Now that we’re older, time is running out and i want jobs done.😊😊😊
Your local home extension should have classes/instructions about how to use your pressure canner. I understand what you're saying. I'm registered for my first class next month. Happy canning!
Take that canned salsa and dump it in the crockpot with whatever taco filling you use or even a taco bake dish.
Buy paper or plastic straws for the kids.
We have reusable straws we’ve had for years. I have special brushes to clean them.
No laundry soap recipe, here. I tried several but my husband did not like any of it. I ordered several cases of an eco brand several years ago and still have several left. I make my own bar soap. I’m several years ahead because i really like making it! At one point, i started putting the soap bits into a mason jar and adding water. When the jar was full, i put the contents into a pan and cooked it until it all melted. I added extra water so it would go through the pump. That worked great but was too slow to keep us in hand soap.
I found a case of IVORY bar soap under a bush at an estate sale ready to be used when body wash is used up. Using sanitizer pump bottles to make it go further.😶🌫️😶🌫️😶🌫️
Have you ever figured out how much you spent on starts vs your bounty? Im going to start a garden next year but going to try and start seeds in the house. I know its not always about the money but about the satisfaction that you grew it yourself.
This is a good question. If you spend $8 on two tomato 🍅 plants but can up to 10 quarts of sauce from them, $30 to $60 amount…this is a win 🥇. Thank you for bringing that up. I never thought about this.
That’s why I never buy starts of cabbage, etc. Too expensive for that one harvest.
Hi Kate, I love your lifestyle a lot. I'm looking forward to something similar one day! Hoping to grow food on small plot of land. I'm in San Mateo. Are you in southern or northern calif? Take care!
Northern. I lived in that area years ago.
Good morning ❤
Good morning!☀️
When will you be painting your pantry ? I like the espresso and white color combo idea.
After Bali fixes the ceiling. Maybe winter time.
MS.KATE "FOR OUTDOORS PLASTIC TABLES I USE "🍋 LEMON POWDER AJAX"
Bleach will kill the grass and the roots where vinegar only kills the grass not the roots. Just what I read 🤷🏻♀️
Bleach is a little too destructive. I don’t want to destroy the soil.
The panels are Hog panels.
Thank you!
Hi again, I think I messed up my comment about the soap nuts because I put a link to my video in it on how to make it a liquid form. Sorry about that. Anyway, didn’t want you to miss the soap nuts for cheap laundry soap and it works great and they last a long time. Love your videos!
Comments with links just going in a preapproval folder and I see them sooner or later. Thank you so much!
@@CoffeeWithKate4 no worries!
I was just reading egg cartons make good seed starters and are biodegradable if you google egg cartons for seed starters will give some tips how to starts seedling better with using them
What soap do you prefer for your face nowadays?
Still ivory. 🧼
I'm babysitting my son's dogs they got into my cats dry food probably ate about 8 cups of it guess what I woke up to poop galore 😢
Oh man!! I feel for you. 💩
Dogs can get a twisted stomach and die from gorging on food. Keep that in mind. We laughed when our lab ate enough food to make her stomach hard as a rock. It wasn’t funny when we found out about the twisted stomach. We’ve heard you need to get to the vet IMMEDIATELY. Not a pleasant way to die, apparently. Sorry this comment is such a bummer……
Molly ❤
Lobe your long videos
❤🎉😊
Hey Miss Kate- how about a Cowboy Coral on your door??? Caaaaaaute.
What is that?
@@CoffeeWithKate4 a bright coral color
Hey there Kate.. I don't comment often .. but just discovered Single mom on a Farm here on you tube and thought she's a today's version of your Connie and Sharon and you might like to check her out..🤗
I’ve seen her. Thank you so much for thinking of me.❤️
Can you bake bread in a toaster oven?
Good question. I bet you could.
Good morning Kate. i had the same problem. everything i planted got eaten up by bugs! i found out if u put a container of soy sauce and oil in like a frosting container and dig it into the garden ground for the top of the container to be even with the soil...so bugs can walk in ...they are attracted and go right in and stay there and die. i have containers filled with bugs.dead bugs! its like a tablespoon or two with oil-any oil! it works like crazy Kate.
Great idea!
@@CoffeeWithKate4 put it out last night. this morning there is 100 earwigs all dead in the soy sauce and oil container gf. only thing-it kills every single bug! even earthworms crawled in and died.
If we were more current we could give advice when it’s meaningful. I think you said they ate your melons. Plant watermelon and cantaloupe seeds directly in the ground. Not everything is necessary to buy starts for.
"we're done. Microwaved too many times."🤣🤣🤣
