I have a 2014 Ultra Luxury. The new ES is such a nice car. When I decide to move on from my 2014, I’ll definitely be looking into a newer UL. Those triple beam LEDs look absolutely stunning. The base model is nice, but if you are going to buy an ES350 and not get at least heated/cooled seats and blind spot monitoring, buy a Camry.

The LED daytime running lights are actually different as well. The Ultra package uses higher end brighter lumens DRLs. But I’m glad they finally added the power folding mirrors on the ES. Wasn’t even available on the 2019 Ultra Lux model. But they still need rear climate control, as well as an improved infotainment control center stack.

That base model is a shame, very Camry-like... I have a 2008 Lexus ES350 with the ultra luxury package and nav/mark Levinson package. The older base models had more in terms of power features (aside from the nav-screen, that was extra). I noticed the new base model doesn't even have a power tilt/telescope steering wheel (which was standard in years past), and with the lack of memory seats? I don't know. Doesn't give a feeling of value as lots of Toyota's offer memory seats as an option anyways, that should be standard on a Lexus. Plus the fact they couldn't have added blindspot monitors? That's literally how the base model Camrys and RAV4s come. Great review, I appreciate the work you put into it! It's just sad to see Lexus skimp out on their current base model, as it is supposed to be a luxury car. Maybe Toyota lost the memo in translation, idk.

There’s one big difference you missed: The seating surfaces. The base model gets vinyl which Lexus calls “NuLuxe” and the Ultra Luxury model gets semi-aniline leather. There is also standard leather for the Luxury model of the ES.
The leather obviously feels more premium but some drivers like NuLuxe for its durability and easy to clean.

The biggest difference between the 1984 Camry and the this ES is that the Camry colors were of the same shade. This TMMK built ES looks like different suppliers were responsible for the interior. Correct, and that omission has drawn oodles of complaints. As Kenny suggests, there's a whole suite of back-seat features offered on the ES in many other countries where the owner usually sits while a hired drive ferries them around, but in the States apparently Lexus was striving to keep the price down.

They probably were allocating the already small supply of Ultras to dealerships that had previous sold the largest numbers of them; they make them in just a few batches during the model year.
