I have started developing a console based game engine in C#. Once Im happy with it I will be doing tutorials on how to use it and how to develop your own.
Yeah Unity is very cool, I've worked with it a bit, mainly on a 2D level. This is a game I never finished... czcams.com/video/HtxymwU3AOk/video.html I was doing everything 2D assets, audio, coding... Just got over it and lazy. The issue with this console game engine is the GDI LIBRARY, its limited to cpu rendering. I'm going to give this game engine stuff a go again at some point, but with the Win2D api which supports gpu acceleration.
The point of making an engine usually isn't to be the very best engine. The point of making an engine is to hone your skills and make a decent output. Also, I don't exactly know what you mean by "might as well do something original" Every engine is original in some way.
You'll never compete with Unity, might as well do something original.

@@palegrass6168 The might of the Company and their shareholders will crush you sir, I would not test them if I were you.
@@mathew3267 I mean, it's not like they can stop you, since the code is original and all you'd need is a license.
