Actually you were spot on, it sounded like a shorted coil in armature or field coil. You can hear the strong sparking when it was running. That worn and uneven (concave) surface of the commutator also causes the carbon brushes jumping when the commutator is rotating , which can lead to excess sparking.

Indeed, I really should have bench tested it before reassembly.

I had a similar issue with a Henry once. Replaced the motor and still doing the same. Turned out it was the suppressor playing with the power to the motor and making the popping noises and burning smell. It was completely shot. Enjoyed the video!

I’m about to try and fix a similar machine and your vid was really helpful, thanks. Really needed to know how to dismantle unit and you got that!👍

my mum has a miele it seems to be her prefered choice as she has never changed to another model but my own preference is a dyson and for two reasons because i never have to keep buying replacement bags and it also has very strong suction

    Those bearings are knackered
The popping is brushes most likely

Man hört das ein wicklungsschlus die Ursache ist. Keine Bürsten..

If you sand the comm you should possibly get new brushes or it'll just get in the same state again

Well the vid demonstrates how to disassemble this line for repair, which is very useful to put up. How's the asthma anyway ? Tommy picked up a nice Cilo racer. R u to into that kind of thing Mr.B ?

Never heard of it Tommy and google didn’t help. What is it?

It looks cool. I have no experience of tubular tyres. Gluing and stitching for a puncture. But I have a few older racing bikes that I should tidy up. But I don’t want to sell them and we are where we are!
