4-camera live stream setup for YouTube with OBS / AVMatrix mixer / Macbook Air

  • A quick video showing how I configured a four-camera (including one wireless camera) setup for live streaming from the side of a canal. There were some technical glitches, (mostly audio) but it basically worked, sort of.
It'll be better next time because a) I'll ensure the Wireless Go doesn't overload the camcorder input (which spoiled the first live; turns out it's ever so easy to prod the button on the receiver which changes the output gain) and b) I'll know to use the mixer output for monitoring so I can actually hear what's going on!
    Kit list:
    Sony AX53 camcorder: geni.us/Airsca...
    Sony NX80 camcorder: geni.us/UKA_So...
    Accsoon wireless Tx/Rx: geni.us/UKA_Ac...
Rode Wireless Go II radiomics: geni.us/UKA_Ro...
    Rode NTG4+ shotgun mic: geni.us/UKA_Ro...
    Rode Blimp windjammer: geni.us/UKA_Ro...
    AVMatrix HDMI mixer: geni.us/UKA_AV...
    Macbook M1 Air: geni.us/UKA_Ma...
    Zyxel 3302 router: geni.us/CtC_Zy...
    Poynting 4G antenna: geni.us/CtC_Po...

I was hoping that you would do a ‘ behind-the-scenes‘ video, and you delivered!
What a complicated set up, but it turned out to work quite well.

Thanks for such a simple and direct explanation - and thanks for the links in the description.

A great app for audio while livestreaming is Loopback by rouge amoeba you can combines multiple audio interfaces as well as routing all of it to a single place. 9 times out of 10 if you have audio issues on a Mac while livestreaming it is audio sampling rate mismatch. So always open audio/midi setup on your utilities folder and make sure all of your audio devices are set to the same sampling rate i.e. 44,100 or 48,000 and so on. Cheers and thanks for showing your setup.

Cheers, the Mac was fine, it was the radio mic receiver that was outputting too high a signal to the camcorder and overloading it 😞 followed by my own incompetence on the audio controls!

Thanks for sharing the BTS, couldn't see the ear piece you had in. well done working out the glitches as you went on regardless.

Thanks yes I used my old transparent earpiece which was moulded specifically for my (left) ear. It plugs onto a tiny transducer which is driven by a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Absolutely fabulous to see your wonderful mix of things to make your appreciated and exciting live casts from the canalside.
    Absolutely fabulous multi-cam outside broadcast.
All the various parts worked so well.
You perhaps needed to have a designated viewer as your ... what would you call them..?
    Producer ?
They could let you know of any defects or settings...
Your own mic was a little low at times...but oh my ..what a great achievement.
    You are a consumate professional.
Nice to see London boat girl...with you again..
I can't say how much I've enjoyed seeing broadcasting like this. It reminds me of the earliest stereo LP's where one listened only to hear the stereo...
Or indeed my youthful heritage days in watery wireless.
The hodge podge of cables keeping that on the air...and at such power makes my hair curl now.
More power and OB's to you in the future.
You are still THE MAN of canal tubing.
    Thanks heaps.
    ML

Ta. Yes, the mics were both over-driving the camcorder in the first broadcast (which I wasn’t expecting as I’ve used them happily with that camcorder before but what I think may have happened is that the button on the bottom of the receiver, which controls output volume, is too easy to accidentally press so I may have bumped it up without realising. Then in the second broadcast, I set it correctly but didn’t adjust the mixer volume back up again to compensate. I have made a note for next time.

Running a four camera shoot, video AND audio, and hosting besides - what? no drone piloting?
You were busier than a one armed paper hanger, as my mother used to say!
    Well done!
I like the "universal audio interface" for talkback to the roving reporter.

It did briefly trouble my mind how to do a drone shot but I abandoned that idea! 🤣

How do you remember what cable plugs into what device. That mass of cable looks a bit like what's hiding behind my computer desk, interesting to see what goes into a live stream setup.

Wonderful video, thank you for sharing this!
I was wondering if you had any problems with OBS seeing your program feed? We are using the same AVMatrix system at our baseball ballpark, but whenever we connect to OBS, the program feed in the studio is black.
Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I had no problems at all, it connected straight away and saw it as a webcam. However I do recall seeing a review of this mixer where someone claimed its output was incompatible with Macs and so I was anxious but I didn't have any issues. I suppose it's worth checking the mixer firmware version you're running; send AV Matrix an email; and it may depend what version of MacOS you're running (or Windows of course if that's your platform)

Nice setup. How is the AX43 working out for you? I have the AX33 and I hate how little manual control it gives. The picture isn't that great, especially the colors. It is impossible to set a proper white balance. An a6000 gives way better results.

    • @UKAirscape
      @UKAirscape  Před rokem

It’s an AX53 so does have the manual control ring on the front, for (limited) manual changes. That said, I don’t have much problem with any Sony camcorders on auto white balance; seems a little warm to my taste but that’s easily tweaked in editing. For a consumer-grade camcorder I think it’s superb. I hate the ergonomics of all the mirrorless cameras, I’m an old-fashioned camcorder man.

@@UKAirscape We do live stuff so editing is not an option. Most of our cameras are on a tripod or a static cam so form factor is not a problem not to mention that the camcorders aren't even better since they come with the same horrible micro HDMI plug on the side(!) and you can't even get rig cages for them. MILC image quality is just plain better for the same price. Only reason for a camcorder for us is the power zoom with the huge zoom range.

Cant wait to see your next live stream! (with better sound 😇)
