I've been playing this beautiful prelude for about sixty-five years... the Gounod arrangement as you have performed here. I've listened to probably most of the piano performances of it here on CZcams, and also several guitar adaptions. Yours here, on steel strings, is the most beautiful Ive ever heard.
Expressive even within the absolutely tight tempo and phraseology-thanks also to the choice of instrument-and lovely to see that Mr. Chapdelaine is just at home here with Bach as he is with Tarrega. Lovely, fluid, soulful.
Michael, I grew up listening to my oldest brother play Classical guitar and as a youngster went to see Liona Boyd with him. I have always been fascinated with it and now in my early 50's I have taken up fingerstyle. I'm playing some simple stuff, Blackbird and Spanish Romance. Your playing inspires me to play more. Such great tone, so clean and so much passion. Thank you for sharing your hard work and your incredible gift. Jeff
Magistral!! Apenas si pude contener la respiración, escuchando este tema, para prestar mucha atención a su interpretación. Desde Panamá el cordial saludo.
Beautiful Michael. Never understood the arguments for not using a steel string for classical repertoire. Arguments are about 30 years too late. These days they are made with such fine craftsmanship that all the dynamics and textures of Bach's music come out (i would argue) even more beautifully so than on a classical guitar and also it must be said under the command of a fine player such as yourself.
I think the fact that this is played on a baritone guitar helps, as the lower string tension help reduce the infamous twang that comes with traditional steel strings guitars. With that said, it's hard to beat an arrangement such as this on a well defined nylon string guitar - given that added articulation and expression that comes with the strings themselves.
@@johnbee1069 czcams.com/video/WedDZ7pL-Qg/video.html The arrangement is less difficult, but it sounds better becouse it's a classical guitar. That's my opinion.
@@nevermind-wp3bf I like them both, though I've grown quite accustomed to the classical guitar over the years, and so the steel string and baritone combination really stood out for me.

Take the Collings 00 for example or even the Taylor Slotted headstock 12th fret to the body like the 522e

I have a 40 hour a week job whereby I spend 2 hours a day on my own practising this (amongst other things) with pocket strings. This is electric guitar spacing. It's all about making it second nature. Perseverance is key
Amazing! But I can't recognize the guitar tuning. My first thought was Crafty (C-G-D-A-E-G), but some notes don't fit it. It's more like an ordinary tuning, but shifted way down. WTF? Oops, if it's ordinary, how is the lowest С possible?

Looking at his left hand I think it's all standard except for the bass string which is a C.
Hey mate I started transcribing it and it's tuned to drop D, then every string down a whole tone, so the bass string is C. Love that meaty C sound

My problem with playing finger classical on a steel string is the spacing between the strings... They're too close together.
