    It's important to note that Griffin silk cord must be pre-stretched before use. It can stretch several inches once the weight of the beads is added, and the project ends up with a millimeter or two of space between each bead and each knot within a few days or a week of completion. I taught bead knotting by the tweezer method at a bead store for several years and I guarantee this is really crucial.
    Just unwind the whole card, anchor one end to anything stable, and pull on the thread (not the needle) until all the card dents are gone, and the cord no longer retracts when you let go.

      Hey there, new to this method of heading using cordage (I’m used to the clear nylon non-stretch stuff), does what you’re saying also apply to that twisted nylon cordage that’s very similar looking to what’s in the video here? :)

    Glad that you agreed that using tweezers is your favorite method. I teach pearl knotting and use bent nose tweezers with which you can grab the cord by the very tip allowing the knot to be closer to the bead.

    FYI on turquoise for everyone watching: Turquoise is naturally a 4-6 on the Mohs scale- not too hard and so it’s usually stabilized which means it’s steeped in acrylic and / or epoxy and that process hardens it and emboldens the color. Natural turquoise beads are expensive and only come from reputable people who’d advertise it big. Most turquoise at the stores like Michaels - it’s dyed howelite.

    • @calypso_lazuli
      @calypso_lazuli Před rokem +5

      True turquoise stones are going to have the distinct color/s (which can range from greenish to green-blue to bluish to greenish-brown), they can be found in a variety of different unrelated species of stones but the main reason they’re expensive is because the color/s in combination with copper and the conditions in nature to achieve the color/s have to be right… it’s a very difficult stone to replicate by synthetic means which is why the fake versions look so “fake”, i.e., dyed howlite. The Egyptian variety is one of the most expensive for obvious reasons of shortages through extensive mining.

    Thank you! Very helpful. Nice to see different options offered and demonstrated. I use the Griffin Silk Cord and I stretch the cord overnight. I hang it by using tape at the end of the cord to my closet door and weigh it down gently with little rubber tipped clips attached to the needle. After seeing how much the silk stretches, nothing more frustrating than to have to go back to a completed project and have to restring your piece. I am going to try the Amiet Cord also.

    I totally enjoyed watching this tutorial with Becky on bead knotting. Her explanations of each step were very easy to understand. What I didn't understand was that the video I was watching occasionally would flip to another tutorial that had absolutely nothing to do with what Becky was teaching about bead knotting. Don't know if it was my computer or not. Don't really understand how it could have been. Have any other people had this problem? I have never experienced this before, and I have watched many many tutorials...

I have the need for artistic expression . My grandmother and great grandmother and my mother made teddy bears dolls quilts crocheting as well and when I was in school I always failed art I couldn't draw to save my life So later I started to explore and realized art comes in many forms it's to bad my art teachers didn't allow us to explore more avenues of art .

    I'm really struggling with hand knotting. I am using real silk and can knot the beads tight enough together, but if the bead gets pulled in the opposite direcrion against the knot I just made, it pushes the once snug knot up the string creating a space and ruining everything I have just done. Trying not to get discouraged.

    • @ArtbeadsVideos
