1999, Prince said “soon we will be sampling music that has already been sampled” and in 2020 this holds true.
But the only problem is that sampling started to happen in the 90s too. Do you not know anything about music?

Prince was soo ahead of the time. He saw through the layers of what was going on and he knew..That's why he didn't want to be part of where society and the music were going to. Always unique, always loyal to his own principles and beliefs. You couldn't manipulate Prince, it was obvious. He had too strong personality to be manipulated by anything or anyone. That's why I respect (beside artistic side ofc) this man in a great deal.
@@bigolebot We were not sampling the samples then (at least not as we do today, minimally back then) , re-watch the video and re-read his comment. Whereas you were trying to teach him about music, I think you need to give yourself some lessons on humility, and kindness.

This interviewer is exactly why the entrainment industry is how it is. All she was trying to do was to get him to name names and not just talk about the issue without having to specifically call someone out.

The first time I heard prince speak I was honestly surprised I wasn't expecting the amount of humbleness, intellectualism, uniqueness and a celebrity who actually got IT and seemed human, unlike the trashy musicians now, he was absolutely one of a kind and an amazing dude
Me too, I was too young to enjoy him in his prime and have recently discovered more about him as a person during quarantine and wow... his interviews are so profound. His speaking voice and aura are literally other worldly. What a gem, too precious to be here on this earth.

Prince didn't ever try to be unique or different; he just was (in the best sense of the words). Man had more charm, aura, intelligence, authenticity and talents in one small finger than most people all together.

Morris Day And The Time, Jimmy Jam and Terry Kewis, Teddy Riley, Babyface are still here living and making music too

Unlike you I'm actually old enough (a few years older than Prince actually) to remember how much the music industry had changed throughout the 90s. Prince, Donna Summer, Joni Mitchell, David Bowie, Bob Dylan all spoke about this.

You could tell he was a little nervous but he was so articulate and soft-spoken. I really love listening to him talk.

I think it was more along the lines of his wanting musicians to recognize the goodness in themselves and not paint those bands with a broad brush. A challenge for all of us to do better. Prince was much more deep than any of us realized.

GREAT interview. First: He looks cool as #*%^#@ ;-) . Second: He admits feeling responsible as an artist for presumably putting out songs that trigger negative behaviors in certain listeners. That's some bold honesty. This is one of many reasons why I appreciated him as a person, not just an artist or 'rock star.' I loved him for exercising his conscience, and speaking out on matters of human suffering, racism, sexism, conflict and peace. That resonated with me early on when I started to really focus on him in the early 80s. Every interview with him, I always came away a little more enlightened. That was a deep brother and if you were paying attention when he spoke, you could always come away with something meaningful to ponder.
Right straight from the man himself. Completely understandable what he's referring to. Most of today's music sucks ass! Prince was a very talented and intelligent man. He will be surely missed.

Molly, you've just inspired me to listen to the Black album for the first time in quite a while. I've owned it (bootleg) for many years but played it very little, as I always felt that this was the beginning of Prince losing his inspiration. To my surprise, it sounded MUCH, much better than I remembered! In fact, I think I might have to revisit and reevaluate my opinion of this album. I know that it was pulled at the last minute (at Prince's behest?), if that's what you mean? I'd always thought that this was simply because it was sub standard. It appears I may well have been wrong about that

Prince makes just as much sense dead as he was alive, & what I love about this interview is that he’s not pointing fingers, but letting them know, anyone AWARE can tell who they are. Many got glasses but can’t see, cause they don’t wanna see, since they’re part of that mix.
