HowToHockey has helped me go from starting ice hockey sophomore year to almost (23 seniors in my class play out of 54 total in the program) making varsity senior year.
Thanks man you and chell have me living the dream on JV!
Greetings from Iceland! (Canadian in Iceland) 2nd how-to video my daughter and I opened on youtube was yours. She spotted your SA jersey right away!
I just want to tell you I really appreciate you making these videos. You have refreshed my memory and taught me so much. Thanks coach :)
Guys remember this is how to IMPROVE acceleration, not really meant for ingame. It teaches you to improve traction. Listen to the vid
5:34 would be really funny for in game tho
@@koreyfreemanofficial That’s for when you fall but you really want to get that puck😜
@@koreyfreemanofficial when you dropped ur stick and can't pick it up...
Thank you Jeremy!!!!! Thanks to you yesterday at the rink I was able to gain speed like never before. I thank u for making these videos helping out the hockey community. Also thank you for helping me understand my edges !

3:06 damn i love that sound. bring on hockey season!
Your videos and instruction style are so damn good, thank you!
Great vid man
Nice video, you should do a video on backwards skating / acceleration (crossovers)!
just push towards your toes instead of your heels
I use to be able to skate backwards, as I aged I stopped, very good forward and stopping though
Eazy
You are a champion.Massively helped my skating , thanks mate
Great learning video , thanks, this guy is great ! ! !
Thank you this helped
Ayyy I'm from Iceland and I was born in Akureyri
I noyiced that jersey right away, love your vids bro, I used to play in Reykjavik as a goalie ;)
Soon as I saw the Bonus. Lol
Fantastic video!!
Jerry, GREAT video. I've been looking for something like this for a long time.
AWESOME. Keep it up.
Jeremy?🤔
Well rooted skills, Jeremy! I'm gonna take your insight to inline skating as well. Be safe!
agree with you, when you look at biomechanics fast shorter strides at the beginning makes you faster. I think thats because you can bring your mass inertia a little bit better(easier) forward and full strides would take to long ,after acceleration the strides have to be wider so can use full power of your legs, it doesnt matter if your strides need more time, youre already gained some speed.
sorry if my english isnt that great ;)
your biomechanic from Austria
Nice video. Will try next time at the rink.
I just added an article link to the video description. The article has some off-ice drills to improve acceleration
I ordered some skates , I’m so hyped
Great video!
great tips!!!
Great videos brah.
Come to maui and make a roller video???
As someone who just started participating in pickup hockey this is super helpful since I'm the slowest person on the ice
Thanks so much I’ve been trying to improve my speed😁
Hey Jeremy is there any good skating drills that I could practice on inline or roller blades that would actually be useful? Thx so much for the tutorials, they are very detailed and helpful
Awesome Jersey man!
Great vid
i juz watched ur vide. Both are great. Can u show more abt the hand moving direction
thank you very much
thanks bro!
Nice skates!!! BALLIN!!!!
It cracked along the bottom of the blade, just like my first one. Back to the affordable sticks.
Damn that sucks
are those Bauer one.4 skates? I have those skates
thanks for the great tips, you have taught me how to skate better.
in the future, can you tell us which work outs will help build the muscles that will assist in these tutorials. like other than the basics and other than just doing drills
This video is awesome
This is awesome
Any videos of your hockey games? Would be cool to watch the great Jeremy Rupke in action. haha. But really that would be pretty sweet to see ya use some of the techneques in a game time situation.
I really like your videos don't quit your channel because your videos are really good
awesome!
Do you have a link to where you could buy that jersey? I think it is awesome!
I would love one of those jerseys. I used to live in Iceland. I miss the place
That good ice though!!
I think the crossover would be, is seems like you can get more of a push from it. Watch the NHL Skills comp and see how those guys start during the fastest skater, should give you an idea of which one is faster.
yayyyy its out
I'm takin' off to Canada !
Hey Jeremy is there a way I can practice the drill at 5:19 off ice? Cause I want to practice as much as I can
about time
Your best bet would be to get an old tire and rig up a way to pull it. Go hard for about 10-20 steps, for more resistance pull it up a hill. I am adding a bunch of drills to an article, I will put it in the video description
Yes, but what a great production. Covers a lot of techniques and drills in short period of time. Plus fundamentals.
do squats for this one and lunges i learned this in a hockey camp
You definitely use the v start or some form of it in a game. As a defenseman and I see the puck squirt loose behind a forward I have to use a form of the v start to get quick acceleration and get to the puck. It would probably be better to say you use both forms of starts.
what is your choice of a skate hollow?
The moment he said 'out' I knew he was Canadian lol
DomsBlading you mean 0:30 ?
+TheMuscleNetwork he accuatly plays minor or something in Mukosa Ontario.
Witch Team do u play for? and what division? Sry for bad english
thanks :D
is that in some random muskoka ice rink. been there done that
When i skate i am always on pressure so the angle of my skates are not correct, that is when i concentrate to much on my target,i need to concentrate too on my skates,i only become faster when i am playing with friends, maybe cuz' not much pressure?
Shoutout to the janitor in the background! (Y)
@howtohockeydotcom
does this help with roller hockey?
Good ways
My brother is a D-man and I'm a goalie, whenever we are on the ice we race and I've figured out because I have flatter blades I can't hit the ice like a speed skater and blitz by him. Pisses him off to no end lol (out of gear btw)
In my opinion, the crossover start isn't used in a game situation as much as a V start, because you should always keep skating. You start with crossovers if your not skating. But it pretty much depends on the situation.
Can you make a video on the xtiles
Yes the first leg to push is more of a weight transfer, you should use both legs to push and get power in the cross over
Hey man can you make a video of special dangles
what is the best stick for easton
Try the Russian box.It builds mussel strength alot.I use it.
+How To Hockey nice video!
Try searching Plyometric Box Jumps - builds strength & muscle speed (not that I do them myself) ;)
do you tape your hockey socks?
This is a great video but does it apply to roller hockey
Hi,
If I were to give you a choice, which would you put as a higher priority.
Skating or stickhandling?
Adam Merc skating. that’s the whole game.
how to do quick continuous crossovers when turning to the left
i like it even though i was being pessimistic in the beginning about like wel..
"ur running on the ice, ur not going any where" LOL!!
I agree, the first three steps will be shorter than when you get to full speed but the reason I think they are smaller is because you are going slow and there is no glide. If you watch the NHL fastest skater competitions those guys still have a good knee bend and full extension. I prefer to teach three "fast" steps instead of three "small" steps, just to ensure players don't get in the habit of intentionally taking small steps.
badass jersey
This kid whatch your videos for two years and he's already playing triple aaa hockey 😱😱😱😱😱😱
nice black laces
Do you dig your toe into the ice and then land your blade whenever you take an acceleration stride
ThatOneGeek
i play hockey and I'm 12 I'm the best on my team i play and have the best team in my league
GTABoss12345 uh okay?
yes i do
I explain it a bit in the video. It teaches you to turn your feet and have a quick stride recovery. If your stride recovery is too slow you will fall flat on your face. Also if you try to run on the ice you will fall.
I found skating at the benches at first to help. Practice right after you sharpen your skates too...
Look closely at your skates, they are shaped like this: |_| They have 2 edges, an inside and outside. If you're skating forward and stop with your left foot forward first, you want the inside blade to stop, and your right foot outside of the blade to stop. Hold onto the boards and practice until you're comfortable to hockey stop without it.
I mean the one I showed, getting your heels in the air and feet close together, you wouldn't normally be in that position. You use a form of it, especially if you are skating backwards, stop, and then go forwards.
Did your RS break?
you have to cross over then short steps then make your way to longer strides
Why does the rink look so small? Cause of the fisheye?
Hey Jerry!How tall are you?
How much do you weight?
jerry lol
Tired yourself out dude !! Good vid... Thanks
And thx
And also where is this rink
Lol "ur running on the ice ur not getting anywhere" LOL that's funny u made me laugh
Is he wearing a wireless mic? how does he sound clear far away?
Freshprinceofdonair probably a good expensive shotgun mic
