When you’re balancing and you have a horizontal balance, flip your prop over and see if you are still in balance. You can quickly identify if your hub is in balance as well as your blades. Then when you think you have it perfect, position the blades around the clock and make sure they hold position.

Ahhh... reminds me of balancing props in A&P school. The balance stand knife edges looked like they'd lost bouts with the Roto Tiller, I suspect they weren't level/parallel & the stand was in a dark drafty corner. Repeatability was nonexistent. They had us balancing stone age ground adjustable props; pounding in lead wool and moving clamps around... a crap shoot anyway you look at it & they had to be perfect. A giant PITA if there ever was. I suspect in a real world situation it would have gone fairly quick, but there it took an infuriating eternity. Cool videos, Thanks!

My dad and I balance a set of 30' rotors one time. So so so sensitive. Watching you made me remember how you had to stand very still and let the air settle. Just moving your arm or hands would make enough air wash to move them you almost had to hold your breath. We had to paint the tips anyway, so that was the way I put the final balance on them just spritzing some paint on the tips. We were very pleased when they were done, they had zero shake on the stick.

Hiya, WOW! What a great video, again... I'm going to run out of superlatives any day now... you are so good at what you do, all of it! Moving that huge prop around, wow. You could have used a much smaller prop and still shown off your skills but you chose to give us the greater treat of seeing you do a very much larger version and show us warts and all. Having to go back and forth must happen on smaller props but it being larger seemed to show more of how hard parts of your daily working life are. The only real wart being that slight momentary struggle putting it on balance, you even mentioned it, no hiding... the video was great, using up those superlatives again, the voice over really works, it seems to allow you to plan out and practice what you want to say and that is all to the good. The change in angle of shot, i.e. close ups, are very, very good, they allow us to become even more connected with your work without losing sight of the whole. So you continue to grow as a videographer, your prop making is already at the top of the game and your channel will grow as well. To go viral is mainly the name you give the video plus the simplicity of the thumbnail picture. One I saw used, 'What the cops don't want you to know about...' It got them a load of money plus followers but for how long? Talking of long I've talked enough so... Very well done, again, I love all your work.

Alaina, After you wash your car, do you spend the next 2 hours getting the glass streak free? (kidding you here). Watching you work and the concentration and attention to detail is AMAZING. If you static balance to within grams, do you have to re-balance after you apply the stain and finish coats? I really enjoyed hearing you talk about the trailing edge of the airfoil on the blade. There is so much skill and thinking that goes into each propeller. Do you ever dynamically balance any propellers? Your work is so beautiful. Nothing shows the craftsmanship of the master more than wood.
Your voice over was perfect, very easy to hear and understand.

Really impressing. Please excuse a nosy, silly question. These beauty-propellers, are they usually "undercambered" at the backsides, or quite straight? It depends, I presume?
I am asking, because I, in senior ages have returned to my childhoods hobby: Model rubber powered aircrafts, and thereby carves balsa propellers. There are lots of experts, that have lots of thougts of everything, and one question is however undercambered propeller backsides may benefit efficiencies. Me, myself, think that the backsides may be either, but makes an opportunity, to handle when balancing, when the front airfoil is optimized and smooth. I understand, that the centre is less important for the flow, and think that the backsides are next to.
Please excuse an old Swedish man for some violence of your language. And be proud. Most craftsmen/women would not make propellers like you. Splendid work-womanship!

Hiya, only slightly late... How is everyone? I was a little worried when you were missing in action so to speak but thought you had likely been too busy building your works of art. More teaching videos to follow? I hope so as they are so informative and entertaining.
Have you started on your truncated or smaller props for peoples walls yet? I've seen them over here as the boss with 6 to 12 inches of blade, with or without an old looking clock set in the middle of the boss. Used to dress man caves, pub, (bar) walls or even flying related firms offices. An alternative to a clock could be a barometer... Plus your logo...Take care@@CulverProps
