What happened was,the works Ford Siera,flown in by Ford Motorsports for Stig Blonqvuist had a high speed accident as a driver drove it from Mombasa to Nairobi for the start. The Team then decided to prepare Johny Helliers car for Stig to use in the Rally. Johny's car had earlier won the Kenya rally championship.AVA Sport at Mombasa did a trully remarkable job preparing the car overnight and it made it to the start,led the rally briefly but ultimately retired.
