I ate at one of the many Frisch's Big Boy restaurants- today where I live in a suburb of Dayton Ohio. I had a Big Boy platter.
Big Boy is still my favorite place to eat. I'm 65 years old. My wife, three grown kids, and three granddaughters are well acquainted with their menu.
Thanks for this video. It made my day!

Bob Wian demanded two things always at his restaurants: good food and good service. At the Glendale California drive in back in the 60s, the carhops moved like greased lightning. The cars would back up into a line out onto Colorado Blvd. just waiting to pull into a drivein spot. My Father who was always tight on his tipping, always left a good tip for these ladies because they truly earned it. Great memories !

There was a Frisch's Big Boy where I lived in the early 1960s. As a little kid, our family rarely ate anywhere buy home, but when the parents would give me a Frisch's Big Boy (it might have been a kid's size), I was in ecstasy! To me, it was the best thing ever.

I grew up in Detroit in the 1950s and 1960s and got to eat at the Elias Brothers Big Boy once. As a college student in Orlando I got to be a waitress at a Frisch's Big Boy. Loved making the chocolate cake/ice cream desserts.

Most of them in northern California were Bob's, but on the trip to Tahoe for my brother's wedding in the 70s we stopped at a JR's along the way! My cousin had a Big Boy talking doll (that had no clothes on him at the time of our visit, haha!) and one of the expressions he said was: "Let's go on a picnic! I'll bring the pickles!"

Thanks for the happy memories. There was a Big Boy in Milwaukee, WI. Back in the 60's it was the cool place for my high school to hang out. Guys would show off their cars and cruise down 27th St. The food was great! I always ordered the platter that came with a "salad". It was simply a wedge of plain o'l iceberg lettuce with the best blue cheese dressing I have ever had in my 72 years. The strawberry pie was perfect. Saturday night was date night. It may be my favorite hamburger I ever had. Who ever thought of thousand island dressing on a burger. I've tried to duplicate it many times always failed.

The Original Bob's Drive-In Restaurant, was torn down for a strip mall. Lots of people tried protesting the demolition, but certain people didn't understand it's cultural significance. At least the second location in Burbank survived.

There was one in Perrysburg Ohio. Found it shut down. Not because of the restaurant, was due to lack of employees. They couldn't get anyone to work. Last time I was there ) at the Perrysburg location), in June of 2021 they were still open. Pulled up and order 5 Big Boys. It took them over thirty minutes to receive my order. I received the same excuse, " we are short handed". The manager was nice and discounted my order. She told me the younger kids don't want to work anymore and they were paying $12.00 a hour. I just shook my head. Glad there are other locations in the Toledo area which are still open.

Frisch’s Big Boy in Middletown, Ohio. The teenagers hung out there! Maybe as part of a date night that also involved a movie.
As an elementary and middle school kid, this was the height of sophistication, something to aspire to.

There was a local drive in that went by "big boy" back in my hometown of Lawrence, Kansas in the early 50's, but the "official" stores made them change the name. They became the "Big Buy" in about '53.

Yeah those were the days,. Go cruising or drag racing on a street called Telegraph, that was on the edge of Detroit, we had two Big Boys on that street, and for me it was like mandatory to be there on Fri or Sat night. you had to back your car into a spot next to the call box, get your order and check out the other muscle cars either pulling in or just passing through. Great burger and great times. Also never got a ticket .
