will upload the staining test footage in another video would have just made this one too long.
Thanks John. If the loose top dirt is the easiest to remove and the stuck on film near the paint is the hardest to remove, does it make sense to start with citrus?
Anyone else happy when you see 46 minutes 👍🏻. 😊
🤢
Yep
Yes but made better at 2x speed 👍
Love these types of videos! As soon as I’m out of my valet pro citrus and G101 I’ll just get 5L KKD to do both jobs. Cheers for saving me some money!
The video we have all been waiting for 😃
Very thorough John. I was expecting autobrite to be hire, I've seen the kkd in action in a few videos and it looked good and you've proved it.
Glad you've finally found KKD it's all I've used for years and that's one of my favourites 👌🏻 it just does what it says
Another great video Jon! Though I didn't think you tested KKD products, as hardly seen any on the channel, nice to see it winning though, as I've used all three variations of citrus magic over the years and it's always been a very good product
If there's a channel on YT where being pedantic is not only acceptable but likely to be expected is one called "Forensic(s) Detailing Channel" [Note: the 's' is a silent one. It is not written but is often used in verbal situations!] Thanks for the huge effort you put into these monster product comparisons, Jon, I absolutely love them.
We appreciate you John! My favourite detailing channel! Although you cost me a lot of money 😂.
I agree up to he saves me tons of money as I never buy anything before checking to see if Jon has tested the products I'm looking at.
Also if you use his petrean channel you can message him and he gives super always relevant answers without a doubt Jon is the best guy to ask regarding anything detaiing,
Great video very detailed review of these products.
I use KKD myself i love it ive always got great results from it at various mixes. Great product.
Great video as always Jon i use Autoglanz Spritzer , once you spritz you never go back to others
It’s always a good feeling when the product you’ve just purchased comes top in one of John’s videos! 😊
Yeh. I’ve never quite got that bit right
Great vid Jon thanks.
Viro-Sol is my secret weapon, and because it's so cheap you can use it at a higher concentration which does actually work really well.
Have you found that its fine on the cars paintwork
@@notwhu817 I use it in a weak ratio (like 50:1) if my car is particularly bad with salt/grime in the winter season, and so far I have not noticed anything of concern.
I used it originally to clean my mountain bikes, after trail centre riding, where they got absolutely filthy, and it was very good at that, although one thing I did notice, was anodised metal (coloured anodised alloy parts, like chainrings, brakes, etc) started to fade back to silver after several applications.
Enjoying all of your videos. I'm wondering what would happen if Citrol were added to this lineup. Very potent product in an aerospol can.
Would have been cool to throw in some Surfex HD as a control comparison
Great job. Yes, a bit pedantic but nevertheless a very thorough comparison. Keep up the good work.
I use kkd aswell brilliant stuff even use it on my kitchen cupboards but great on my golf r which being blue shows loads of road grime but using this makes cleaning my car alot easier i use it then snowfoam on top and looks ok after a rinse and dry
I was hoping to see the HDD road rage apparently that's what people are raving about , looking forward to watching this later thank you jon
Finally wooo!🎉
Great test👍 As a scandinavian I'm used to (oily) traffic film on my car during the wintermonths. Wintertime is generally very wet (either from rain or salted roads). That's probably why we're used to use solvent-based degreasers together with snowfoams. I use both Autofoam and Touchless as prewash-foam, but when the car is covered in roadfilm I usually start with a solvent based degreaser on the lower/dirtiests parts.
I think it would be great if you did a video that showed the difference between an alkaline soap and a solvent based degreaser. I think there's quite a bit of confusion there.🙂
again I think if you use a solvent based degrease it needs to be formulated to be used to clean dirty panels off the car or else it might not mix with water and resist rinsing. so one with emulsfier a bit like tardis, is handy so you can rinse it off. But in the UK we really dont tend to use hydrocarbon degreasers during the wash phase, although theres a couple of niche products around that Ive heard people use.
Agreed great test 👍Also, I was going to ask Jon to create a video showing EXACTLY what you have asked. Here's hoping 🤞
@@ForensicDetailing Jon why do ya think us Brits tend not to do that? As I agree and don't do it, but, I have no idea where the notion not to came from.
Yo Jon, perhaps consider rolling cost and dilution into cost per litre (RTU) so there is an easy to gauge cost comparison?
Thanks John that is useful that
Very in-depth testing 👌 Scary to see some of the instructions that a lacking any teal direction 🤦♂️
Need an APC? Simple. Bilt Hamber Surfex. Job done ✅
Surfex HD is highly versatile. However, it will strip protection.
No it doesn’t strip protection, John has tested it on the channel
Very good video jon but i got a little curious why u want them to be gpc when u have apc:s for all type cleaning. How would bilt hamber surfex hd stand vompared to these?
I have been using KKD products for a long time. For the price I don’t think there is any better out there. I have tried most things on the market.
Great video, Jon. Hope you're using PPE when you're handling all these chemicals. The fumes from many cleaning products are bad for lungs
Yes m8 full bio suite and respirator
Tried KKD Citrus Clean today on my wife's rose gold Fiat 500e @ 1:10 mix.
I like it.
Followed by B/H Snow foam, Gtechniq Contact wash, Gyeon Wetcoat and BH Wheel Cleaner.
Try them - Brilliant
Jon, anyone thinking you are too critical on product instructions can take it from me, you are not. I wrote and reviewed instructions for nuclear reactors for over 35 years. They had to be precise or someone would get them wrong. No such thing as common sense. If you write " add one 500ml bottle of chemical xyz to the sump", there will be some idiot that will throw in the bottle and then argue you should have said " add the contents of one bottle...." . Keep up the good work Jon.
Thanks Jon. Love your channel and a big fan of your videos mate. Quick question: I use BH Surfex and spray on to road film etc before applying BH auto foam. Should I swap the Surfex out for a citrus? Cheers
This. I was gonna ask the same thing to John. Surfex HD to do lower panels and wheels/tyres with or switch to KKD?
This is not required with auto foam or touchless. When you used any other chem you inhibit the ability for auto foam or touchless to do their job and they are formulated to remove road film. At the start of this video I did a little piece on why citrus is good. But apc and snow foam are essential. Citrus is optional but very good.
Epic automotive citrus for me
So, the infinity wax one he tested here then?
What do you think the results would be in you mixed kkd with some bilt hanber surfex hd...
That could be 1 untouchable cleaner
It would be interesting to do a comparison using the same value / cost of cleaner per 100ml. I have a feeling the Virasol might do well pound for pound.
Hi John, to paraphrase Churchill….”never in the field of car detailing have so many waited for so long for so much”😊 Great video, we’ll worth the wait, although maybe would have been worth dropping the less “automotive dedicated” products for more familiar automotive brands. Not much mention of effects on LSPs - do we assume none of the products will strip waxes/sealants if used as directed?
Yer generally there's are lsp safe but so many variables m8
Thanks Jon, great comparison.
I've not used a citrus cleaner before, but I'll probably get some in for the bugs 'n' wheels!
Well worth being pedantic on the instructions, if your not familiar with a product it's easy to make some assumptions and end up with streaking, damage a coating or just have a poor finish.
Thank you Roger much appreciated mate.
I’d like to see the points structured the same for every test!
Used Koch C 'PO' today on faux leather outer edge seats and also as a fabric extractor. ( PO is for leather, real and faux and fabric I am told )
Wasn't sure result
Timely video, I didn't understand Citrus Pre Wash to APC whatsoever, not sure what the PO I used today is classed as, Leather Clensor guess
Great video! Is Viro-Sol really safe on paintwork?
dont let it dry and knock it down to say 3-4% and rinse off. and yes
Do any of these in a lance match auto foam or beat it
Great full info vid John that kkd can I use it has a snow foam
Yes m8
@@ForensicDetailing 👍
The real question is do any of them outperform BH Surfex HD?
Yup. For the rare things it can't shift, just use a bug and tar remover (which I'm convinced is just watered down methylated spirits)
Hi John, if you have the KKD citrus bottle on your shelf, is there any indication of the Ph level of the product on the label or any mention of effect on waxes/sealants? Thanks
No mate but pH level isn't that important it's only a finger in the wind. IPA is pH neutral for example but put it neat on your car and it can damage the clearcoat.
Jon can you do a video on the Unplugged on these VS Bilt Hamber and should i switch to citrus if im using Bilt Hamber?
its a personal thing I have both mate. Surfex and now some KKD citrus magic. although Im using up some of the other ones first as well.
@@ForensicDetailing okay i think i will stick with bilt hamber
They can only be one
Should hand added auto finnese dynamite TFR as they describe it as a citrus pre wash that you can dilute
Have you thought of trying the products on bird droppings. You must have a pigeon fancier by you who would let you leave a test panel in his loft over night.
A great, informative video. You didn’t feature EZ’s Citrus pre-wash. Did it just not feature or, is it not worth reviewing?
There's thousands to choose from. Always miss loads but we draw up the list with Patreons and try to get hot stuff in the line up as best we can
@@ForensicDetailing That’s fair enough. Outside of this video’s info, do you have any opinions/experiences with EZ’s Citrus pre-wash?
lol now i know why that orange smelling spray i got a few years back was good at cleaning my motorbike seat and another bike cleaning spray wasn't. must look for it now.
Damn, citrus magic price shot up already. Should have gone with my gut and bought it when I first heard about it and not wait for this 😣
Just tried ordering 5L direct and it showed free-shipping...then tried charging £7.00 shipping...I'll use something else!
Hi John, currently using Auto foam, but it works out super expensive, whats your thoughts on using say surfex or a citrus prewash mixed in with a cheap snow foam mixture to give a dwell time off the foam?
dont mix chemicals, you dont know whats in them and how they react. Theres solvent in autofoam for example to keep it homogenous...
@@ForensicDetailing okay, thats what I figured, but been recommend by a few people that way. Went to purchase some KKD citrus magic and the price has rocketed up! Reckon Ill stick with my infinity wax for now
I'm really struggling to find KKD Citrus in stock anywhere, especially in the larger volumes. I had a really hard time with baked on algae and dark grey contaminates (not sure if this is off colour algae or what) despite using touchless at a decent % and a K10 with a high quality nozzle, the contact wash with auto-foam wasn't touching it much afterwards either. I hope that I can lance this over the care before foaming to finally get an effective first rinse.

@@ForensicDetailingcheers, I saw this one when I was searching, I can select sizes but there's no button to add it to basket so I figured it's out of stock. Looks like that store/web shop is completely shut down now, perhaps for a while because they have some very old product photos up there.
Any plans to review some DIY Detail products when Inter Detailing get them in Jon?
id like to mate will see what they have when they are available
@@ForensicDetailing the Gold Standard polish has peaked my interest and looks to perform well on what I’ve seen so far. Keep up the great work 👍
I actually used hair shampoo to take out stains in my car seats, wife is always eating chocolate, as well as removing the stains the whole seat came up nice and fresh
Q.
Citrus is a solvent based some surfactant de greaser or all purpose cleaner.
Apc is the above but only surfactant.
Been told APC will destroy foam when using same seats repeatedly dirt extracting fabric .
WOULD the citrus pre wash used on seats do the same ???? Cheers.
ok so D-limonene is an organic solvent. Some APC contain caustic stuff. But APC is such a broad term you have to look at the instructions of each product and this is why I really delve into this. Your looking for a fabric safe APC thats suitable for use in extraction systems. I think from memory Koch and Sonax products made that claim. Lots of detailing brands dont cover all the basis in terms of how you can use the products, but the germans tend to get this right.
Awesome cheers again Jon. I’m getting there. I’ll find the right APC for seats , I have been using SurfexHD last 12 months everything. Bought some actual carpet extraction fluid. I’ll use a light l fabric friendly APC underneath the carpet extraction chemicals. Mush it up light drill extract out. Looking speed these old hectors under £2999 I sell. Did 4 extractions , mor valets and a flat polish this week. Hard work good results , and worn out
Would it be beneficial to use a citrus pre wash in a snow foam lance, rinsing and then snow foaming? As I thought snow foam should be put straight on a dry car?
Citrus good for summer bugs m8 could use instead 9f snow foam
@@ForensicDetailing Thanks mate!
Hi Jon, if i use a fall out remover would a citrus cleaner be used before or after? or can I use a citrus cleaner in place of a fall out remover. This is on a ceramic coated car that has already been decon, polished, etc.. and coated with something like GYEON one
Citrus first m8
@@ForensicDetailing Thanks!
@@ForensicDetailing I think you should do a video on KKD Citrus Magic vs Surfex HD vs Korrosol and whether they should be used simultaneously
No Gtechniq W5 ?
K.K.D Citrus Magic out of stock everywhere - maybe another column on the chart for availiability?
yer I'm not sure what's going on. Shame theres demand for it but out of stock.
I got the shiny garage, but does not smell like citrus, can anyone confirm?
Would you recommend using citrus prewashes every time
No, price is issue. Limonene very expensive. It's Like bathing in milk
Is this KKD pre cleaner safe for wax/sealants?
theres a lot of variable to explore there mate. Concentration, dwell time, what sealant or wax it is. Put this on neat to an old school oil and solvent wax and it will prolly remove most of it. Put it on at 3-5% pir on a modern automotive sealant or modern durable wax and there wont be much difference to using anything else.
@@ForensicDetailing thank you for the reply Jon. I like to see u busy. 😁
Ypu mentioned the FROST X cannnot be mixed? Are you saying it cant be diluted? You can since this is a Concentrated product.
Frost x diluatable with water 1 to 1 m8
Not Frost, Först
What one would be best to get rid of tree sap
i think any of them really but the winner would work well on sap at a lower ratio perhaps.
11:09 what is the dilution of shiny garage pound for pound? What does this mean?
Pound fir pound means when u do the 5 % pir across the board
@@ForensicDetailing So what is the dilution for this? 5% is the suggested 1:20 already. To have this (best of) result we go let's say 1:10?
why doesnt bilt hamber have a citrus wash?
I think they do on their website. Never used it or seen reviews for it. I don't know if KKD could compete with Surfex HD though
It's a hand cleaner
The Shiny Garage product contains Sodium Hydroxide which I wouldn't want on my car, as it etches the paint and dulls plastic colour.
Only if used incorrectly.
@@BrianW1612 You're most welcome to put caustic products on your car. I just choose not to do so on mine.
@fretho8410 no that's totally fair. Just highlighting if used correctly they don't damage trim. I should know as the trim on the Kia Stinger is extremely fragile. I've been using shiny garage for a while now & it's not 'dulled' or 'etched' the shadow chrome trim on it so simply pointing that out. Any product can damage trim or paint if used incorrectly, caustic or not.
You never went into what ones are safe on different coatings? I know 2 of them the manufacturer actually says it’s not safe on coatings
hard thing to test but yer fair play, that could be valuable.
@@ForensicDetailing it’s near impossible to do a accurate test in one video, but comments from the manufacturers (if they would) would be a nice extra
Valet pro for me
Jon,You were Mr. Alien Majic.... What Happened???
was i? I only ever used their colored foam
I'm wondering where EZ citrus stands up against any of these? I'm getting bombarded with deals but I'm not sure if I want to take the plunge. The marketing videos seem way too corny, not convinced they stack up against the likes of bilt hamber/meguiars
If anyone has 2c to share, would be appreciated👌🏽
they use a discount model which is popular and works. But you have to know your market average prices and you have to understand concentration. So some of the products in this test are effective at around 1-2% pir. Some are not. Their product can be used at 10% pir (1 to 10) so in theory the high concentrates could be 10 times stronger. That being said they currently selling 5 litres of citrus wash for 14 quid, which i think is a really good price for any citrus. So only way to know is to give it a bash mate, it might not be the best on the market but if its good strong price then could be worth a punt.
what about autosmart g101
thats in the best APC video mate
ok so is it totally different to citrus wash
@@ForensicDetailing
Surprised at the results as quite a few of the products in this comparison I know in the real world out perform the KKD cleaning power wise. I suppose if versatility is important to the end user I can see why it would win.
Just my own thoughts, enjoyed the comparison video Jon & Citrus Magic winning is a fair result. It's not the best but it's up there for exterior cleaning, just a shame the owner is a cockwomble & can't handle criticism. I like some of the KKD products but I will never purchase from him directly after his actions in the past 🐍.
real world can be hard to gauge though B because nothing is ever the same, KKD didnt rank first in any of the cleaning tests so in theory you are right. I think without price considerations, the stjarna was like superb, could understand lots would like that if price isnt an issue. the shiny garage, the stjarna, the wax planet might have a tiny bit more poke at recomended uses but then they might loose marks in value with stjarna, or like the shiny is really just a TFR citrus. So Im looking for an all rounder that has poke, but can be used for all the things a citrus could be used for but also at lower concentrations. but as always you could pick any of these. I used the angelwax on a car that got covered in a fur tree that was being shredded and the sap made the tree sawdust stick to the car and shampoo would not removed it. A good soak with the angelwax and it worked to break down the tiny bits of sap on the sawdust. So yer you could use any really.
@ForensicDetailing very true with regards to real world testing. Even testing on the same car, on the same day is always going to have slight variations due to the amount of dirt on different areas of the car so fully appreciate it's hard to test & compare. Only recently I've seen how big of an impact a protected car is compared to an unprotected one using the same product. It went from average performance to very good purely due to the protection on the paintwork. Was mind blowing how significant the difference was & I never imagined it would be as influential to the results.
Nothing against the Citrus Magic product, I've used it in the past & found cleaning performance to be good for an exterior pre-wash. Not the best but more than good enough. Add to that the versatility & it's fairly clear why it won if that is part of the criteria. Jack of all trades, master of none but in these tests that isn't a bad thing at all. I would happily use it as an all purpose cleaner but like protection or polishing products, I prefer having 1 product that does something extremely well as opposed to decent results but can be used for various things. Just how I set up my range of products personally & that applies to cleaning products as well👍
@@BrianW1612 Hi Brian,
I'm keen to hear more about the kkd episode if you will. Customer experience and the person behind the brand is one of the big criteria I want checked these days, if that's not there and the guy is nasty then I don't care how good the product is, I won't be supporting it with my hard earnt cash. But I would like to know so I'm aware when it comes time to look for another bottle of something.
I have spoken to dodo Dom regarding forst X following this video and he gave me all the time to answer, explain and give advise on many things so I ended up purchasing a bottle of Forst X even though it is not value for money. It's a British brand with a pleasant owner so I'll buy and support them. Let me know what to be careful of re. Kkd though please.
And just out of curiosity, for when this bottle is finished, what is your number 1 citrus as it sounds like it's something different to these test results.
Cheers. 👍
Google: How do I Clean My Citrus?😊
💡👏 44:07 Jon, good effort 👏, but sadly wrong final methodology 😞
have you, by any chance, consulted the tall fella, from the magazine, how to approach conclusion of this test? 🤔
🤔i don't think it's good to combine all the categories into single, final score.
why? because it's 'horses for courses'. with that much competing offerings on market, consumer will make own compromised decision based on requirements.
some will care less for potency but will decide by price. others will want to get the most effective stuff, regardless of purchase price (realising user pays also with time/stress/effort).🤔
🤓also price score should not be related to pro rata product's volume, but "per wash" (decide on fixed number for sprays from same one trigger [i.e. Tolko's 4ml Blaster or Gold...]) and calculate how much of product is used with the given ratio(s). all related to their purchase price.
yes, tone of work! that would warrant SPREADSHEET, since most of these products have range of dilutions. 🤓
I’ve always have the mindset that the concentrated chemicals the user dilutes is a bit of a get out clause for the manufacturer. Meaning the user dilutes the chemicals for use hence user error. This is a perfect situation for the manufacturer in a sense that there’s no comeback for any damage the product causes. Similar situation with the product descriptions, directions and application. Very vague on some products. Containers would be better worded, “use at your own risk”. I don’t think that’s legal, could be wrong there mind. We as end users would be better off understanding the use of such products should we understand what chemicals are best used for what and what’s safe to use on which surfaces and at which dilution ratio. I should imagine most car lovers enjoy the brand loyalty, the scented variety of chemicals and the free sweets when developing their tennis elbows and carpal tunnel syndrome. Nevertheless Jon, nice video. I was here to cross reference the Valet Pro Citrus. Anyways, that’s my go for the day. Sorry that landed with you 🫣. Be interesting your thoughts on educating us on the individual chemicals more and not so much the product. Maybe we can then mix our own chemicals in just a similar way to you mixing your own waxes, once upon a time. ✌🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
Hi Jon
I can’t find my original comment from when I 1st watched your video & we were discussing alternatives to KKD & I was leaning to wax planet.
Since watching it again I’ve come to conclusion & this is based purely on my own needs of not wanting use a tar & glue remover separately I think Auto Finesse could be an a better alternative & all rounder.
One of the main reasons is and this has tipped for me KKD & Wax Planet are not readily available I can’t seem to find it most of the big online retailers as I’m not going to order just one product I wait until I need to order a few items and just can’t find them on in2detailing etc and where it is showing out of stock the price has gone up considerably.
Auto Finesse have a another product called Dynamite that you can dilute and I think that may have faired a bit better. Also auto Finesse is very readily available either directly from then and shipping is free or local like euro carparts.
It is very frustrating that a product isn’t readily available and you having to wait around until it’s back in stock.
I’ve recently had a friend wanting to get in 2 detailing and as one stop brand I have recommended him Auto Finesse as they are pretty decent and average across the board have some stand out exceptional products but mainly they are readily available and I believe thats where KKD & Wax Planet have been let down.
You should be able to get kkd m8
