Aurora did her own choreography… this is just another side to Aurora that is no less or more authentic than any other part of her. To understand her you have to appreciate her personal and musical evolution that she has curated herself. She coproduces all her own music and performances. She has a very heavy hand in all of it. It is Aurora only ever being true and real to herself. She has said she wanted to challenge her audience not to only see her one way. She is complex and multifaceted. I love all of it. The contrasts are what make Aurora.

In the description of the music video, Aurora said:
"'Apple Tree' is about the potential that hides in all of us. We can all save the world if we think about it. The world will not listen to scientific evidence that the world is dying, so maybe it will listen to the dreamers, the children. In a bleeding world, the power of the individual is our only hope. Let her save the world. Let him save them all. Believe in us, and maybe we will be the generation that saves the world, instead of the one who killed it. "

Lyrics are very important in this song. You can't let the visuals distract you from what she is saying. This is basically a continuation of "The Seed"........Mother Earth is bleeding (dying) and she is saying the young people will save the world. We all need to find our purpose and do our part to save this planet. The blood may be jarring for some viewers, but with some issues, you kind of need a slap in the face to wake up. I love the lyrics and the meaning of the song (I also love the groove of the music as well) A music video you may like better is "Winter Bird"

And believe me when I say, I absolutely respect your feelings about the visuals. And maybe it is because I myself is a Norwegian? Born and raised in a country with so much wild nature, and so little crime.. But for me the blood in the video represent, life, power of nature, mortality, strength and warriors. And all in a positive, powerful and primal way.

Think of Aurora as mother nature. Bountiful and giving, but wrathful and violent when abused. I can understand finding the imagery off-putting, disturbing. I think it is intentionally so. We should all be disturbed by the ills we do the world. But regardless, I adore Aurora in fierce mode. Faery princesses can have sharp teeth.

"During a Step 2 listening party and Q&A held on June 13, 2019, AURORA gave insights on the production of the song. She confirmed that the beat of the track was influenced by Brazilian’s Olodum, which she came in contact when she first went to Salvador in 2017. There is also hip-hop influences because she “felt it deserved a very alive and bad-ass groove”."

Just as each of us have a variety of colors to our soul, so too does Aurora. Some of Aurora's songs hit me in different places, and some may take longer for me to become enveloped by them. However, I see every color of her soul when I hear her sing, see her expressive body movements, watch her dance, see her paint with movement in her videos, and interact with those around her. This could not be truer than what I saw and felt in this video. I realize it will take me several times of watching this to "catch" up to her, to her message, and her unique portrayal of the colors of this piece of art, but I trust it will come. Although I sometimes feel lost when I watch her videos, I know that her videos give us deep insight into a message that she is trying to portray, we just have to find the meaning, and the meaning the message has to each of us. So with that being said, I profess that without her video interpretation of the song, that we might miss the message completely. It's part of her art.

  • @renehoyvik
    @renehoyvik Před 2 lety +5

Aurora is the one who choreographed the dance :)
She has a tendency to present a song very "pop" if its a message she wants to hit as many people as possible (Animal and Cure for me are other examples), because a pop song usually doesn't really have much of a message :P
Aurora has plenty music like this, it's just that in the middle of all pop music, a song with a message won't be visible in the crowd of all the other.

  • @TheLucidMysticsSleepMusic

I personally think this song NEEDED the visual. It adds so much to it. And if you read the lyrics and listen to the meaning of the song, the placement of the blood, etc., it all tells a VERY powerful and needed story.

Hello Chris :-) Great reaction! - You know, there is absolutely NO reason why you should need to apologize for having an opinion. This is a reaction channel after all, right ?
This is my least favorite Aurora MV, but I do understand the visual effects, though a bit dramatic. That's the essence of Aurora imo, she wants you to think and reflect. In that respect I will have to say she succeeded. Again. Another thing that is a bit unusual here is that normally, even in her MVs, we get to see the Aurora we are all so familiar with, whereas here she is portrayed as the diametrical opposite. Almost machine-like and soulless. Or primitive and animalistic. Rudimentary if you will. (Sometimes I wish I could write to you in Norwegian, but you'd understand zilch...lol )
AND - There is absolutely nothing wrong in that. Not in the slightest. It's her artistic impression/expression, and we as the listeners/viewers have to make up our minds. Maybe even look up the lyrics like you said and maybe watch the MV a few times more. Aurora would like that for sure. Mission accomplished I guess.
I, for one, would 11 times out of 10 prefer an honest reaction as opposed to an opinion tailored to please the fanbase. Keep up the good work m8, I'm here for it. Looking forward to your Angelina reaction now. I saw that your 7th Heaven reaction was taken down.... extremely annoying. UMG are harsh on you guys.
Have a great day and weekend :-)

Fun fact is that aurora has a background in dance. She did jazz dance from 9 to age 16 and actually wanted to be a dancer professionally before she was discovered. Theres a video somewhere here on CZcams of one of her high school performances. She actually made the choreography for this video. Aurora has always been a performer, dance is just another media for her to channel it

Another way to look at this is that a additional visual element is added to what is achievable in a live performance. We of course love her live performances, but there is an additional element in storytelling with the visuals. I consider it as a different performance rather than ranking it, and want to get what she's trying to say in that. Note that in her live performances of this song she has had companion dancers. Her MV of The River is another example of this.

Aurora's videos are her own creations - at least the later ones are - and she puts herself into them. A perfect example is Cure for Me. That is totally choreographed, and yet she is incredibly expressive in it. I think this video was deliberately done with a narrower range of expressiveness because that was the art form that Aurora was looking for.

Love your reaction! The song is basically about how the earth is dying and she also talks about the Earth's corruption ("You've seen where the knife is, it's dark location") and she is saying we need to rely on the younger generations to save it but people say they're "just a boy" or "just a little girl" but we need to let them help because they grew up around this corruption and know a knew perspective. Then when she starts bleeding at the mouth and says "Can you carry the weight of mortality? The explosions around you is your symphony" she is basically mother earth saying "Are you happy that I'm dying? Can you cope with that? Because this is your doing" and once you know that meaning and then listen to the song it carries so much more weight

I don’t understand why you say this is not the true Aurora,Aurora has always been true to her own beliefs and has never brought out a song that she doesn’t believe has a deep message for anyone who is prepared to listen.“'Apple Tree' is about the potential that hides in all of us. We can all save the world if we put our minds to it. The world won’t listen to scientific proof that the world is dying, so maybe it will listen to the dreamers, the children. In a bleeding world the power of the individual is our only hope. Let her save the world. Let him save them all. Believe in us, and maybe we’ll be the generation that saves the world, rather than the one that killed it.” This song for me has a powerful message and Aurora shows the amazing talent that she has by writing amazing lyrics to make you think deeply about the world we live in,apple tree might not move your emotions like some of her other songs but for me it goes beyond emotions it makes you think deeply about what we are doing to the world we live in,it’s why Aurora is such a special artist who is head and shoulders above anyone else she is a Genius who is the essence of what music should be.

One should not take away children's dreams, not tell them that something is impossible. They could change the world later. We should support them and not say what they cannot do.
By the way, the blood is not in the video for nothing. On the one hand, the earth is bleeding, that's their natural content in the song. On the other hand, she then knows that we all bleed the same. So also an anti-racist message in the song and in the lyrics.

I think you hit the nail dead center with your belief that her message was unquestionably multilayered toward the savage truth of the human condition. I get it but can't help being at the edge of a major hurl watching it.

I've been mostly enjoying your reactions (not just to Aurora) until this one. There seems to be some underlying patriarchal bias in action here, something to maybe take a look at. Also, I could sense your disappointment from the start, looking disgusted by blood and nitpicking at lyrics you didn't understand. To gain a deeper appreciation for the 'true Aurora', means you must truly appreciate the different versions of her not just the version that makes you most comfortable.

I hesitate to state this but there are some of Aurora's songs that I don't care for and this is one of them. It's too jarring for me. But you don't have to like all of an artist's work.
