It is worth mentioning that pistol rounds in a carbine are more powerful and easier to shoot accurately that pistol rounds in a pistol. There are good reasons to have a longer barrel.
And sight radius, and the fact that there’s a stock
To be precise: it's actually not more powerful in the sense of the energy released. But the bullet can take advantage of the energy provided due to the longer time it travels through the longer barrel. In other words: it's just faster when fired through a longer barrel.
spbeckman well pistols are secondary weapons, which are designed to be small but still decently powerful. Of course shooting pistol rounds in a carbine is easier and more accurate
@@jicklesjingles8134 The kinetic energy is mass × velocity^2 / 2. Traveling faster means the bullet has more energy that it can impart. Most of the time not all the energy goes into the target, for example, if the bullet passes through then some of the energy is wasted.
@@icannotthinkofaname6248 Yes, and for a video addressing new shooters this needs to be said. The primary message seemed to be, pistol rounds are weaker than rifle, and they are. But we don't want the viewer to think carbine and pistols are equivalent just because the rounds are the same. Two years ago I would have made this mistake because I didn't understand that having a longer barrel meant faster bullets.
Worth mentioning that a big advantage to pistol calibers is that they're much less likely to overpenetrate. Meaning that if you had to fire one in self defense, a rifle caliber might well go straight through your wall and into your neighbor's house, whereas a pistol caliber would have a much better chance of being stopped by a wall or two.
Another plus is a PCC is usually 4 to 12" longer than a handgun shooting the same cartridge. That extra length will gain 50 to 300fps in velocity in a more stable and accuracy capable package.

I bought a 9mm carbine precisely because it shares my pistol ammunition and is pretty good over 300 yard (standard combat range). Not too many people are going to come back for seconds after being shot with 9mm.
Too much hate on the 9mm but I don't see 45acp and .40 doing the same thing because if you do your research 9mm holds way more pressure than the bigger calibers.
@@SoWavvyy the hate I heard on 9 mm was that a 9mm didn’t have the knock down power of the bigger rounds things like a 9mm can mortally wound someone but may not stop them but you shoot them with a 45 in the shoulder and they are going down. Of course I later learned all that was bull shit.
300 yards with a 9 mm is great, I knew it had potential but didn’t know it would reach that far.
@@carguy3028 The PCC haters all seem to think they'll be trading 600 yard sniper shots with someone from one hilltop to another. Everything i"ve found shows a 9mm PCC will work fine IRL. Even real combat is rarely at over 200 yards. Unless you're fighting in an open field in Nebraska, there will always be terrain or something in the way.
@@jonathanbrown7250 I think a lot of people don’t have realistic expectations for when they will actually use their guns. Most likely it will not be against seal team 6 at 600 yards and out but at 5 yards with some inexperienced thug possibly on drugs. I have a pump 12 gauge that is my go to buy I have considered a PCC for quicker reloads, less recoil for the wife who will be more likely to need it since they will look to break in when I’m not there and she is. I like the 12 gauge because it is a fight stopper but a pcc is also a good choice in my opinion. I have an ar15, I have a 20 in barrel on it because I don’t plan on using it for home defense, its purely a range toy.
Imagine having him as a grandpa kid: grandpa can I shoot ur gun?” Hick:sure which one?

As someone who is naturally a pessimist its nice to hear you say "life is good" in all of your videos, Hickock. Its nice to hear some positive stuff sometimes.
Thanks! Been wondering this myself

Thanks Hickok. These simple informative videos are a nice touch to your channel. A local officer friend of mine told me his department has been getting a record number of pistol permit applications and having the Hickok 45 channel here to touch the minds of all these new fire arm owners by just going over the roots of some topics like this is terrific.
Thank you for explaining the difference. With all the uncertainty in our country I am new to the gun world. Enjoy watching your videos.
Ordered from Bud's for the first time 2 days ago. Just got an e-mail tracking number this morning, says it'll be here in 2 days. 4 days during this crazy time....thats outstanding!!!!
Although i wasn't one of the people in need of this info, it was still refreshing hearing it from Hickok and the way he explains things....great to watch..
I like my Ruger PC40. Great truck gun to go along with my 40 cal handguns. Hickok 45 is greatest firearms ambassador in the USA
Love my Ruger AR-556!! Proud to have it as my first AR!!
Agreed about the Ruger rifle. I couldn't be happier with mine !! I mounted a Nikon scope on it for fun at longer ranges. Oh my !

Yeah, Hickok45, you and Paul Harrell aren’t experts.... that’s funny.
Thank you sir for another informative vid. Pistol caliber carbines have been around a long time. Lots of Cowboys of the “old west” carried the same round for their rifles and six shooters. Shootin’ a gun, should be fun. Not SCARY...
So true. The infamous 'Chicago Typewriter' (Thompson submachine gun) is .45 ACP cal, a prototypical pistol round. Works even better out of the longer barrel of the Tommy Gun.
@@bertg.6056 "archetypal"?
@@Ijusthopeitsquick Nice suggestion, but somewhat synonymous. I will edit to add ACP, though.
There are some goods in having a pistol round carbine than a rifle . First is the ammo preparation , they share the same ammo so it's easier to prep . Second it's lightweight .
I love this guy he’s amazing
And in person a true gentleman along with his son, John.
Dear new shooter: there is always an exception to nearly every gun fact

Also there is always someone to take exception to any exception. just do your own research and believe only about half of what you hear (here’s the exception) unless Mr. Hickok45 is saying it. Then you can believe it.

I have an old Marlin Camp 9 carbine, and it's a great shooter! It makes a great pair with my S&W 5906 pistol...
Marlin Camp 9!!!!
Same here,love them
Old-school, Made In America cool!
The original "pistol caliber carbines" were technically rifle caliber carbines (and rifles). The Winchester 1873s, 1892s, Marlins and such shot 44-40, 38-40, and 32-20 which were developed for rifles. They just happened to fit nicely in a wheel gun.
I learned to shoot with a Ruger Model 44 carbine. My mom had a M1 Carbine that I enjoyed shooting as well. Now I have a Ruger PC Carbine Chassis model and a Foxtrot Mike FM9.
@@steimystein4368 Nice selection right there.
I thought the theory behind pistol calibre carbines is so you can have 1 ammo useable in both your main battle weapon and sidearm.
I would say that is part of the charm...less recoil for easier handling and cheaper ammo are probably the biggest advantages. Interchangeable mags is also a plus.
@@lamargalloway4556 i.e. keltec and gloc. What others are interchangeable?
@@sidneylittle8385 Those are all I know as well. I am a LOT less of an expert, but have been looking into pistol ARs. I have been looking at the Kel-Tec 9mm AR.
@@lamargalloway4556 i have owned a keltec gen 2. Was an awesome firearm. Could shoot all day and not get tired. Just prefer the larger calibres in rifles. Traded it for an SKS carbine.
@@sidneylittle8385 notice the original comment says "same ammo" not necessarily the same mag, just happened to be so in this case with Hickock carrying a Glock and that 9mm carbine using the same mag. My 9mm carbine and my 9mm pistol use the same ammo, different mags but I could just by 9mm ammo.

he's already international, we watch him from Russia.
I see a few reasons for PCCs:
1) Ammo compatibility with handguns
2) more accuracy and velocity than handguns
3) runs well with suppressors since most pistol calibers are natively slower than rifle calibers
Thanks Hickok your my go to when it comes down to my firearms review guy or having to get simple info.
