Tracy: One of the things I really appreciate about your FMQ videos is that you’re doing the quilting on a regular sewing machine. A lot of other FQM tutorials I’ve watched do the quilting on specialized free motion quilting machines or long arm machines, which most of us viewing don’t own and probably can’t afford to purchase. Another thing I appreciate is that you keep the participation cost down by using affordable cotton fabric and an affordable fabric marker. You don’t require your viewers to purchase specially designed fabric, books, rulers, or other quilting paraphernalia from you to participate. Bravo for keeping your tutorials simple and affordable!!!! Keep ‘em coming! BTW: Your pebbles look great!

This is such a great quilt along! And, yes, I agree on Angela Walters! The last year she has been doing series of FMQ tutorials for domestic and long arm machines. The PDFs are so helpful. Her workbooks are very good, too. Oh, and Tiny Orchard Quilts recently did a series on beginner FMQ. She goes from the basics of making the quilt sandwich to testing tension and more on a domestic machine. It was very useful when I started FMQ on my Juki!

Hi Tracy. Just attempted the new sashing method you shared recently. Oh my, I will never sash the old way. You are such an inspiration. I am however, going to attempt a thicker sashing, your method of course, but with a 3” front and 1.5” back. I will let you know how it turns out. I use a 1060’s Singer Touch N Sew, which I still love. I always tell people that I’m not a quilter, per se, I just love to quilt, designing one of a kind quilts. Thank you, Tracy.

My brain and my hands are not communicating what so ever it will take forever to learn this. But your free motion is fabulous. I think my goals are set to high for the experience I have on free motion quilting which is very very beginner on motion quilting. Then dropping the feed dogs and the quilting foot is out of my comfort level but I love piecing quilts so I guess its practice, practice practice! Your blocks are beautiful!

LOL I am not making this quilt for anyone. It is a 'throw away" meaning I am doing it out of left over fabric and batting and its for practice. Also to look back on later to see how much I have improved. If I just really hate it and cant stand looking at it I will just throw it away and start over with a bit more experience. If I just love it I will decide what to do with it later.

I think it depends on your machine. My mom has a high quality machine and does fine w pins. I have a $200 machine and with out 505 spray, no matter howbwell I pin, I get puckers and wrinkles. Try it both ways and see which works better for you :)
