    For anyone struggling to get the maintenance mode to work, it's important to get into the car, turn the ignition on, the handbrake OFF. Thennnnnn hold the EPB switch off for 2 seconds etc.... doing it with the handbrake ON didn't work for me. The handbrake would go off, but no service mode message. It's an important step that took me forever to figure out. I have a 2017 xe.

    That's brilliant, thank you, I'll be doing mine this weekend. A handy tip I've used in the past is to zip-tie the caliper to the suspension spring while you work on the carrier and disc. This saves any accidental pulling on the break line.

    Thanks so much. Your video has been cross referenced and hyperlinked by the RR Velar Owner’s Forum. Really appreciate the clear, simple and straightforward video. I only ever worry about the EPB and risk of throwing up an ABS error. Your video will help me this Summer change the pads and discs all round - a job my franchise dealer will charge around £1.3k to do themselves. Best wishes.

    With regards to maintenance mode as I think I said it little to fast in the video, this is the correct way of doing it this will work on every XE produced the sequence is as follows:
    Turn ignition on first.
    Hold EPB switch in "off" position for two seconds, then, keeping it pressed, floor the accelerator for two seconds.
    Holding both in the same position, toggle ignition off then on rapidly - EPB goes to "service" or "maintenance" mode.
    Turn ignition off and replace pads.
    To reset - do the same thing but holding the EPB switch in the "on" position.
    Hope this provides some clarity?
    Thanks for watching

    Brilliant! Wish I'de known how to put my F Pace in service mode prior to doing my brakes. The alternative is manually releasing the P brake by turning on the ignition while holding down the brake pedal, pressing down the park brake switch, removing the wire from the park brake motor at the caliper, turning off the ignition and finally removing the caliper. After installing the new pads and rotor, the park brake motor is removed from the caliper, then the caliper piston splined shaft must be turned to full stop to allow pushing back of the piston. Once the piston has been pushed back, the p brake motor can be reinstalled to the caliper carrier.Lastly the p brake wire is reattached. So when I say brilliant, I'm not kidding. Thankfully, I won't be doing this again for a while, but look forward to making the job much easier.

    A good Gardner has a Green thumb, so I guess a good brake man had a Red one! lol good video. my 2 cents I like to give a pressure wash first, and use brake clean on the pistons before depressing them. and then a little grease on the slides for the pads to move freely. I have the same brakes on my 19 XF I painted them red in place when I got it now after watching you I will know what I am doing when I replace my pads thank you! from the

    For my 2018 North American F Pace and XE - the above works IF the parking brake is turned off first - so add FIRST: Turn on the ignition, engine off. Step on brake and simultaneously press the E brake release. Let go and take your foot off the brake pedal. Then start at step one above.

    Really could do with a crib sheet for putting the car into maintenance mode as the method described didn't work for me. Also the calliper pistons have presented issues. Further research suggests the use of a piston wind-in tool. I would like some clarity from the author as with hindsight I wouldn't aptempt this job on the basis of the video.

      Sounds like a strange one are you 100% sure the parking brake was in service mode? If you’ve had to fight the pistons and now the hand brake is locked on it sounds like it was never in service mode.

      Managed to sort the really tight slider bolts and bot them off. But have now run into a completely separate issue. The piston that was against pad has decided to disassemble itself. Which I imagine my service mode wasn't working properly? and the parking break decided to come back on? Metal part of the piston on the floor - break fluid dribbling out and ball bearing all over the floor. I feel like this is not a good thing. Fixable? Or a costly mistake?

    • @TrackAndBeyond
      @TrackAndBeyond  Před 10 měsíci

      @@AL-wx3xs oh man that sucks!! It is fixable. First of all you need to see if the car is in service mode but if it’s not you can’t now put it in service mode as you shouldn’t press the brake pedal as brake fluid is going to shoot out! It’s almost a case of just putting the piston back in to the calliper but you need to make sure all deals etc are fine so it doesn’t leak break fluid. Not sure how comfortable I would be doing it if you haven’t done it before tho

      For front and rear Caliper Carrier Bolts (which must be renewed) stage 1- 70nM then stage 2- 120 degrees.
      For the front caliper slide pins 58nM

    • @TrackAndBeyond
      @TrackAndBeyond  Před 3 lety

      Of you have the message saying you need to replace brake pads then that is the sensor that slots inside the pad. Did you replace the sensors? If not that’s the issue 😊 hope that helps

      @@TrackAndBeyond Why do i have to replace the
      sensors?

    • @TrackAndBeyond
      @TrackAndBeyond  Před 3 lety

      If you had the replace brake pad warning on your dash that means the wear indicator sensor has been worn which then throws the light on the dash. If this happens you need to replace the wear indicators so the light goes out

    • @TrackAndBeyond
      @TrackAndBeyond  Před 3 lety

      Sounds as though they may have a sharpe edge on that pad or are ever so slightly loose in the pad carrier. Maybe take the pads out and clean the wedges of the friction material up and see if that helps
