Scream is at once a slasher film and a tongue-in-cheek position paper on the "dead teenagers" movies of the late 1970s/early 1980s that plays as half-parody, half-tribute. Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) is having a rough time lately: she's still getting over the brutal rape and murder of her mother a year ago, and now one of her friends (Drew Barrymore) has been killed by a lunatic who harassed her with terrifying phone calls, then stabbed her to death while wearing a Halloween costume. Soon Sydney is receiving similar phone calls, quizzing her on the arcane details of such films as Friday the 13th and Prom Night, and is attacked by the same cloaked maniac. With her father missing, she has hardly anyone on her side except her best friend Tatum (Rose McGowan) and Tatum's brother Dewey (David Arquette), a half-bright cop. As for the murderer, it could be any number of people: Syd's father; her cute but overly intense boyfriend Billy (Skeet Ullrich); Tatum's goofball boyfriend Stuart (Matthew Lillard); or Randy (Jamie Kennedy), who works at the local video store and seems to like horror movies just a little too much. Much like Halloween, Scream spawned a series of sequels and inspired a large number of similar films -- its original working title, Scary Movie, became the title of the 2000 parody film by Damon Wayans.

I was rewatching the Scream movies the other day and noticed this particular fall because it was so funny! But, I guess when you're a human desperately trying to kill someone who's fighting for their life and running around in a Halloween costume with frills and a mask obscuring your eyes, you're bound to stumble at some point. There's also another scene where he falls over a chair like a cartoon character.
It makes Ghostface feel more human.
The reason for it is because it's hard to see in that mask and the robes drag across the floor so he steps on his own costume and slips.
I love scream because it showed that these masked killers are in the end just human. They aren't these immortal beings. At the end of the day they are just humans behind those masks. And humans trip, fall, and get hurt by someone kicking them in the face.

I always loved the irony of Sidney talking shit about girls not running out the front door, and in her panic she couldn't unlock the door fast enough to run out the front door herself. Scream was such an awesome movie in the way that it brought "horror" into the "real world".

As an eight year old when this came out, I lost countless nights of sleep thinking ghost face killer was going to kill me and rip my innards out. "Sydneyyyyy" in that creepy voice over the phone. Rewatched the series again as a 30 year old, it was awesome and hilarious this time.

I was 5 years old when it got released in 1996. I don’t think I watched it until I was about 7 though. Along with the second one. I remember feeling nauseous watching the scene where Stu and Billy stab each other multiple times at the end. I definitely shouldn’t have been watching that at the age that I did.
Right I loved the movie as a kid but my brain couldn't handle it when I slept every night I was in her shoes but in different scenarios an with the slow motion dream effect every dream I was a sitting duck 😂😂😂

Ghostface generally doesn't use a gun until after their identity is exposed to the victim(s). They want to avoid leaving evidence behind for police to track them.

People always say that she shouldn't have been able to use the internet because the phone line was being used, but I think it was because the internet probably had it's own separate line. A lot of people did that back when the internet was just dial up.

Yea that’s crazy I just noticed that today and he says it at school the next day when Tatum bops him on the head. You ever pick up him looking himself in the little mirror to see if he got any bruises on his forehead from the head butt to Sidney or the head butt to break the glass at Casey’s or her hitting across the head with the phone? Incredible things Craven added that I’m sure a lot of us didn’t pick up until later on in life. Amazing.

The killer reveal was so good it was insane
Billy was a prime suspect to everyone but then is alibi's was proven, which makes the viewers believe that Billy could not have been the killer. Nobody suspects Stu because he is shown as being goofy and a joke but once the killers are revealed, the pieces come together and it makes you wonder why you didn't see it in the first place. Billy and Stu always defending each other, the way Billy and/or Stu conveniently appear right after a killing
I think what makes Ghostface so scary is whoever is under the mask is just a person. They're not a supernatural zombie like Jason or an unkillable embodiment of evil like Michael. It's just a normal, vulnerable person.

Love back in the mid 90s when not everyone had a cell phone; aka when Billy's drop to the floor Sid instantly thinks he's the killer.
Anyone ever look at this movie and think "I could probably kill Ghostface because I can actually fight"? That's what's going through my head, right now. Granted, in just about any slasher flick none of the victims have any combat skills whatsoever. It's a staple of the genre.
Actually throughout the series (and even in this flick), Sidney is one of the more capable characters in terms of survival. She managed to knock Ghostface off of her, and dodged all of his attacks. In the following films, she's been able to punch someone out, stab people who were stronger than her, among other things.

He's a fumbling, bumbling idiot. Spends close to a minute writhing on the ground after tripping over himself, among other things. Killing him wouldn't be that difficult, so long as you're not one of the ones he just uses the element of surprise on.

Billy is seen with a phone and appears at the bedroom window too soon after Sidney locks herself in her bedroom. For Billy to be Ghostface here he would have to have run downstairs, go outside to run around the perimeter of the house, ditched the Ghostface costume, and climbed into Sidney's second story window in a matter of seconds. This is further proven if one listens carefully as Ghostface chases, receives blows and is tripped by Sidney as he continuously grunts with his voice attributing to that of Stu"

Scream is basically a parody of the slasher genre. It's very self-aware about that.
Ghostface sucks at killing people. I've watched all of these movies recently and he's constantly tripping over himself, getting kicked and hit by random stupid stuff, whiffing stabs/slashes and making himself fall over etc. even in the first movie. He really needs to think of a different costume, I feel like it hinders him physically. Then again, none of his victims ever carry knives or guns of their own so eh.

It was scrapped because it drug the scene on too long.
But now it's left with a plot hole. The police arrive in less than a minute, without her even saying she needed them
