Here’s a list for those in a hurry:
1.) Grades
2.) Social Skills
3.) Ambition
4.) Capacity to recover from Failure
Thank you
Appreciate this brother
Thanks.
5. Intangibles
Thanks
Here's a quick summary to those in a hurry:
1. They discuss how to measure success in a person by considering multiple dimensions, rather than just one dimension such as grades or social skills.
2. The idea is to think of each dimension as a coordinate in a hypercube, and the success of a person is represented by their position in the hypervolume of the hypercube.
3. Four dimensions could be used: grades, social skills, ambition, and capacity to recover from failure.
4. The success of a person is not determined by their position on any one-dimensional scale, but by their position in the hypervolume of the four dimensions.
5. It is also suggested that this concept could be applied to choosing a mate, and that it's better to consider multiple dimensions rather than just one dimension such as looks or wealth.
sounds like he just made things unnecessarily complicated.
Don't make it difficult
i.e.
1. grades
2. social skills
3. ambition
4. capacity to recover from failure
i'd personally put them in the order of 2, 4, 3, 1 as importance
This is a W explanation. I’d never use it every day but it’s a hella interesting perspective on indicators of success

As an elder millennial, one of the few advantages is having lived through the Great Recession. My advice. Reduce unnecessary expenses, increase your savings by investing in financial markets and do not sell. One thing I know for sure is that diversifying your income can help insulate you from much of the craziness going on in the world.

The stock market is a way to hedge against inflation. Most notably amidst recession, investors need to understand where and how to allocate funds to hedge against inflation and still make profits.
@@bondyjoseph5171 In my opinion, the impact of the rise or fall of the U.S. dollar on investments is multi-faceted but learning how to grow your money has never been easier than now that you can explore and experience a truly diverse marketplace passively by using a well-performing portfolio-advisor.

What would be better than notes is if the conversation was recorded. Ideally on video.

Yeah
Give him some credit
The credit is how well Neil dumbed it down for people
Not anything
Adam put NTG on the spot when he asked that question. Neil's initial reaction and nervous laughter was *She's going to see this and I might say something that will get me in trouble" 😂
Hot, sex, intelligence and compassion is coordinates he chose his wife on. Not bad
Corny that he's competing with NTG because NTG is known for his intelligence.

Neil is super entertaining & insightful👍🏿
I think he's a wind bag. And his beliefs on Covid made me shut him right off. I'm here for PBD.
As usual a pleasure watching Neal deGrasse Tyson speak. He is an interesting person for sure!!
Ok, Mr. NDT, I took big-ish with your perspective about the scientific debate around C Vid. BUT this volume thing you are talking about here is gold. Thank you.🙏
There is a further subjective step to take and it’s to give a weight to any factor you want to consider, since not all of them whatever they are could have the same importance.
Once done also this, it’ll be a powerful tool to support in making the most important decisions
Grace, grit, gratitude, and gregariousness is good enough for me. But you still got to grind it out.
Aptitude, attitude, accountability, and autonomy is another applicable analysis for accentuating your aspirations and ambitions if you are all about achieving at the apex of your agency.
I think one thing that is never discussed that is of an up most importance is passion. Doing something that you enjoy. Many people have a hard time finding that. If your not passionate about something it’s hard to find motivation. Most people work for someone else’s passion and dreams.
Bodybuilder or military ppl or even Jeff Bezos in his garage back in the day…. These people didn’t start by having a passion 💡 they started by getting focused on improving themselves or something 💡 it’s easy to find motivation to go to the gym when you’re in your bed, the real deal begins when it’s cold a 4-5am, you didn’t sleep enough, your body is still soar, your schedule for the day is busy BUT you still wake up and go to gym .. it’s not passion it’s dedication to one’s craft.
@@TheStrangerbyAlbertCamus and it’s everyone that works at Amazon that makes Jeff’s dreams come true
@@Iceman-xe7jo exactly!!! Everyone at Amazon has the passion for money but Jeff Bezos focusing on achieving his dreams (he went into space, got a new gf, got a new body etc.)
@@TheStrangerbyAlbertCamus I disagree with your philosophy. I believe passion is a much bigger energy source than just getting off your ass. If you don’t enjoy what you do that fire will burn out. I have no interest in e-commerce. Good for Jeff he has made his money. I’m talking about something that transcends money. It’s respect for yourself. If you don’t have a passion for what you do it won’t last.
@@Iceman-xe7jo sure passion is good but not necessarily in the beginning … most of the time you develop passion for what you do over time, you don’t wake up with a passion (that’s why many people don’t know what they are passionate about) … how do you know you got passion for cooking if you never cooked anything.? Most of the time you’ll start by cooking here and there, if you see some benefits to it one day you decide that you’ll keep doing it and improve yourself then another day you say you got passion for cooking.
And if you decide to “just get off your ass” every single day of your life with the purpose of achieving something … I guarantee you that over time you might become Unstoppable in whatever you put your mind into and will also become passionate about Getting Off your Ass
That’s the difference between Jeff Bezos and his employees => when employees don’t “feel like it” they rest and chill but Bezos is already thinking about the next move
I’m glad they interviewed Niel Degrasse Tyson, he’s one of favorite people.

🤡
There are less mistakes and regrets in life when one embraces Dr. Tyson's critical thinking method.
Lol
Haha, thanks for this. I actually love how practically Neil deGrasse explains this method of making decision. It's very helpful
NDT just described principal component analysis, a fairly ubiquitous mathematical technique albeit in a very understnadable/rudimentary way. Psychologists use this technique (along with factor analysis) One may go further and create "sub-questions" on each of the categories to help score the category.
I've also seen this A LOT in machine learning/AI algorithms. Kinda interesting that he can still map it out in an intuitive way
Love this! People don't realize how important mathematics is when making any decision. Emotions are often misleading. I do things like this in every area of my life, and the results have been mind-blowing. You don't have to be an arithmetic genius or a physics PhD to benefit from mathematics
The year just started. However, this is the clip of the year for me.
Great framework for conceptualizing and making a multi-variable choice
Intuition development and connections with the highest knowledge that leads to knowing truth, no matter where it's coming from. Intellect is often interested in short term gains even if it's lying to you or self.
@main_Value

Absolutely
1) Lineage, 2) Geography, 3) Networking, 4) Luck
Don't let this distract you from the the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, "Spare Tire" Dixon.
This is such a no brainer. It can solve so many choice confusion issues about anything.
1) Identify unrelated variables.
2) Give them a number from 1-10.
3) Multiply them together.
4) The highest score is the best Choice.
from star talk to personallity anaysis tyson still a gunies , loved it 😍
I love how smart people make the most simple shit sound scientific AF!
This is very good info. I had a negative view of NDT from the other videos but this was awesome
He's definitely an intelligent guy. It's just that he's not always talking about the thing of his expertise. Like Messi would look like an amateur playing basketball.
@@Yeahagreed exactly this. Many experts in a specific field tend to be allowed too much of an audience when speaking in other fields in which they are not experts. In general, its ok to have multiple interests but with the Internet and social media poorly thought-out ideas can spread quickly when expoused by a famous person.
3:45 At first I was questioning the 0-10 scale but it makes sense if one of the dimensions is "likelihood of not being a axe murderer."
Very good perspective.
Performing principal component analysis and dimensional reduction to determine which traits are most important may become the new norm in our personal mate selection algorithm.
Never thought I would be getting dating advise from a astrophysicist
Definitly taking notes
Simple expressed as profound. Certainly a good way but don't most people do a version of this?
these things depend on if the person wants that area to be a strength or not. They all are important to people depending on where they are in life!!!
That was awesome. Thank you Pat for having the great physicist Neil Degrasi Tyson.
He’s not a scientist
Simply put, a confluence of high value traits.
i’m not super sociable and failure crushes me but i do keep trying again and again after i fail. my weak point is definitely the sociability.
Perspective
Creative
Determined
Productive
Wow this is excelllent! As a numbers person, i greatly appreciate this
I love listening to this dude. I'm about to find my mate using this equation 😁
This guy is special man. Truly gifted.
This is called regression analysis, where multiple independent factors are analyzed for one dependent variable. One can extend it to life factors for prediction of individual wholesomeness. But in reality its a multi regression analysis where even these independent variable are causing influence in the decision making.
Love this!!💜💜💜
would you consider hyper volume similar to a balanced score card?
Good one thx
As a well established men from Europe let me give you an advice how to become wealthy and happy. Number 1. Do not spend your time watching TV or any form of legacy media . 2. Do not ever fall under the society ideas, you are the one that is the Captain of your boat nobody else. 3.Try to be insightful about people around you. Chances are there are many more intelligent people around you so lower your EGO and listen ! By mastering the art of listening you might hear a good idea that others will never pursue yet you might use that idea to improve this or that because wise men listen while dumb people only want to speak or answer while the question is not even being fully formed . 4. Do NOT make money as your goal in your mind , focus on good life and happy life and by doing so money comes as a default of your thoughts and actions . those that dwell only in ideas about money tend to lose them selves after they get it and never see the happy and good life.
You can say anything about Neil on the comment but gotta agree that he is really smart

What would be the coordinates that will predict this podcast will be very successful in the future?
I would say:
1-Quality of guest
2- Relevance of the topics
3- Capacity of the interviewer to get the best out of the guest without taking the front seat.
4- Getting to the point in a timely manner. The only people right now that I can listen for more than an hour are: Andrew Huberman, Neil, and Derek Prince.
Very interesting.
He's talking about Scott Adam's emphasis on having a talent stack. But he needs to add his hyper intellectual framework so he can get off on feeling like he's smarter than the other people in the room. This is a very simple concept.
another thing for mates ,is relatable and chemistry
I disagree with the Grades variant on measuring success, at least in business or sales. How about "capacity to focus"?
I do design work and this is the same way how things get done. If you just tell me you want a website I would just sit there. You need to have certain rules and criteria. If you say I want a website about printers, our colours are blue and white, and we are focused on selling direct to consumers. Boom. Now I have exactly what I need to start coming up with ideas.
This is so good
Tyson is so kool when he’s not super fired up, but when he is fired up he can’t help but interrupt you when you’re talking, but dudes so damn funny and don’t mean to be that’s the best part

NDT really loves his jargon. "Hypercube". As if video game stat charts (typically pentagonal or hexagonal for the STR-AGI-INT-WIS-STA) don't show the same thing, and in 2 dimensions.
How do you create a hyper cube?
Wow never thought of decision making like this but god damn this is good
This is good!!
@main_Value

For us visual learners, wish we could see what this looks like on paper
Makes sense. Hyper Volume.
I would add one last thing to his approach. Not all factors are equal so I always add a unique multiplier or weight to each factor.
If I have 4 factors each with a score from 1 to 10, then based on importance, some factors will be multiplied by a different number
@main_Value
☝️write me✍Let's talk🎁
Damn-that was good!!!
That was pretty damn good 👌🏾
