When I would road trip with my daughter, we had a listening agreement. I would let her play whatever she wanted and then I would get to play one of my cds. OMG. I got blasted with Lady Gaga, Rhianna, Avril Levigne, Asking Alexandria, and the Black Veil Brides. I would play what I consider essentials and my sole purpose was to expose her to the great music that came before her. Lots of Pink Floyd, Bowie, Beatles, Zappa, UFO, Van Halen. One trip I put on Echoes. About halfway through she said " this is really good. I like this. " I think I may have teared up. She wanted more Pink FLoyd. So I broke out Dark Side, Wish you were here, The Wall, and more. SHe was hooked. SHe has gone away to college now. I spoke to her on the phone a while ago and I was so damn proud of her when I heard her listening to Animals on the phone. She is well rounded musically and I couldn't be happier.
Robert leRoy Parker that’s so cool! I’m so glad teens are getting into such a great band. I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd since birth and I find it fascinating that a teen who listens to such mainstream artists enjoys Pink Floyd. 5:36 I love the fact that they recorded Gilmor singing in the LEFT Channel and Richard Wright in the RIGHT channel. If you listen with earphones you can clearly listen each voice individually. Amazingly beautiful .
This should have been included in the Golden Record and sent along the Voyager to the cosmos. Any form of life with a minimal level of artistic sensitivity should have the privilege to listen to it.
Ehoes is not a song, it is not a psychedelic expression like Number 9 or Floyd's own Atom a Heart Mother whether the length of the piece becomes almost irrelevant. Echoes is a beautiful piece, modern-day variations on a theme, and is a true masterpiece. The live at Pompeii version may not be as polished as the studio version (naturally) but Nick Mason's amazing talent as a drummer really shines though here like nowhere else. And that goes for the entire album, which is a real gem.

@@DanHomeAtLast I agree. And later, it went too far when the technology took over at the recording end. Some would say that happened at some point in the eighties, but it still required a lot of work and mostly musical talent. Back then, it just seemed drastically different to the recent '70s, scare reports of "death of the guitar", "drummers out of work", etc. Post 1998 was the start of the rot in my opinion, coinciding(?) with the birth of Autotune. A Saucerful of Secrets ...their interesting, but I feel a bit overrated. Innovative in their use of exotic instruments, but too repetitive for my taste.
I make fun of Floyd's haters. It's like when I go to the zoo to see hippos. They are a strange community living in a swamp. Pink Floyd overrated and repetitive? Ahahahahahah... what a fucking witty joke!!
For tastes there are colours, not everyone will like the same music as you, it's part of the "ego" making fun of others people's music taste, just be grateful that you found a band who makes your life better with such pieces of art
Not everybody understand the difference between real artistic music and popular mainstream music. Pink floyd is the greatest artistic band of all time. Maybe queen and the beatles were more influential, but Brian may has himself stated that pink floyd was a major influence in their sound, and mccartney was also influenced by Syd.
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of art on the planet converted into sound waves. Only the initiated and elect can see and appreciate what is going on here.
When the camera starts zooming out and then the "drop" happens. Chills. Also, Wright is criminally underrated and always has been. Pink Floyd wouldn't be the same Pink Floyd without him. So subtle yet so colorful and expressive. He was an equal part of the band until Waters' ego inflated like a baloon. I used to play the last part on my guitar, starting off badly then mastering the whole part. Rick's piano work is phenomenal. No adjectives can fully describe the sound.
5:43 Richard sing " inciting and inviting me to rise " which was supposed to be " inviting and inciting " ... and so David ended up singing " inviting and inviting .. " and then he looked at Richard smilingly ... I loved it 😄😐😄😐
17 years old right now and turning 18 in August. I just know that I’ll be watching this til I’m old, sitting there in the hospital bed blasting this on the smart tv.
My father is around their age and more or less raised me on Pink Floyd. Everytime this song comes on we both just look at eachother with this grin and whisper “echos”
Favorite part for me, it is almost seamless, he just fills for a couple of beats with one, and already has another one somehow in his hand. Cool hand Nick.
right Mr Mason was and never will be called NICKY , it is Nicholas or Sir Nick of pikey Floydiam Ferrari GTO250 with a GTO250 numberplate lololololololo
man, this part especially the instrumental just makes me feel like I'm on a grand interstellar journey through space. It's such a crazy dark sound that is beautiful and emotional at the same time.
This and Suppers Ready by Genesis. When bands wrote 23 minute epic masterpieces. You will never see this again. Even modern bands with 3 minute songs don't get radio play modern rock radio doesn't even exist and classic rock radio plays the same 3 hits from every band for the last 40 years.
Plenty of fans don't even know about it. they know Dark Side and beyond, because they get airplay, but not echoes. I was a PF fan from the late 70s on, and it wasn't until I saw my brother's VHS tape in 1990, that I discovered it. Of course those that do, cherish it. How many echo products have been created to replicate the Echorec based on this performance of Echoes alone?
9000 years from now, Echoes will remain alone a platform of true musical genius. Their musical trajectory will remain unmatched. They live as immortals.
My baby girl is a 16 year old cancer survivor. She loves Pink Floyd. As I type this, she is painting a pig on the ceiling of her bedroom, listening to Animals of course.
Still the greatest song ever produced, right when it kicks into the ending part that guitar and the keys just sends shivers down my spine in a good way
I love this version the best. They are all spot on in this film. I especially like the bass guitar. This is one of their best songs. The Greatest band ever!!! David Gilmours guitar outro is Heavenly.
Agreed, this was mostly his song, something he started and David worked with him to flesh it out. a great team effort. which is why David has been increasingly wary to play it without him. I think he will not play it anymore.
indeed you are correct. the whole idea came from rick experimenting with playing his piano trough a leslie speaker. to this day, this sound remains unique in the history of music.
This is the ultimate live Pink Floyd recording for me. Echoes is my favorite Floyd track and this version is just great. I particularly like the gradual fading outro, which starts around 7:38. Brilliant back and forth between keyboards, guitar and drums. Music at its very very best.
Gilmour said that they were privileged to play at Pompeii at amphitheatre. They were first men after 2000 years or so which could play at amphitheatre. They were like gladiators of new age performing one of their best performance (possibly even the best one!)
An empty ancient stadium,.....no audience,...and the best LIVE concert EVER!....gotta love it!..meant for you tube,...from the past!....for the future!...AWSOME!....I can die in peace now!
As a teenager I was aware of Pink Floyd but it wasn't until I went to a friend's house, got stoned & he put Echoes on the turn table and it utterly transformed my perception of the band...I literally thought they were from outer space---then years later I found this video of them performing to the Roman dead in Pompei---mind blown again...yet, years later in college I saw Floyd play in Philly and they opened up with is...incredible
Couldn't agree w/ you more..my heart drips of affection for this band..I will never understand why for those who do not recognize them as being the ultimate best rock band ever!
It is amazing how the tones of Gilmour and Wright's voices merge in a way that it is not easy to distinguish who is the first and the second voice over the musical compass. Simply amazing and beautiful.
This was before i was born...i only found intrest in Pink Floyd recently and came across this and to me its the greatest piece of music ever heard. Fuck music today..this was REAL.
Yeah shit used to be real with real music real.instruments real musicians that studied music and practice for years and years Now you put two verbs together and there you go you're an artist Same goes for pretty much anything else Civilization values speed and technological development to make life easier faster more practical but in reality we are shalower than our grandparents, no effort no depth no real sweat or feeling behind pretty much anything these days Luckily I won't be alive to see the bottom of the pit of lack of creativity 100 years from now

The echo of a distant tide

And everything is green and submarine
And no one showed us to the land
And no one knows the wheres or whys
But something stirs and something tries
And starts to climb towards the light
Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can
And no one calls us to move on
And no one forces down our eyes
No one speaks
And no one tries
No one flies around the sun
Cloudless every day you fall upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings

This is too much real, man, so real shit right here! Again.
Where the fuck is music like this now?
+Atomic Zombie There's a lot of great music today. You just have to know where to find it....slash check out our page, man :)
White Star Radiohead is the best example now
Riverside? Porcupine Tree? Opeth?
"radiohead" is that a joke?
lol radiohead are you kidding us
That drummer is absolutely perfect from start to finish.
Pink Floyd: How can we make this song even better?? Oh I know.. do it live!
FUCKIN MASTERPIECE
Rick the forgotten genius!
No comment ...Rest in peace
you like SOAD and Floyd. I like you, dude who was here 2014
he was almost like a classical musician like mozart or beethoven, but in a different time
I've been saying that for 25 yearsnow

there never was and never will be another pink floyd. Musical gods in their lifetime.
True,,, but you should try Opeth,, another true progressive band
Taliba Khidr Are you mad 🤔🧐😳🤨🥶
@@talibakhidr6158 I'll check it out
There are some good old bands, one of them named Los Jaivas. I recommend it
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of art on the planet converted into sound waves.
Oh by the way, which one's Pink?
It was Richard.
5:43 Richard sing " inciting and inviting me to rise " which was supposed to be " inviting and inciting " ... and so David ended up singing " inviting and inviting .. " and then he looked at Richard smilingly ... I loved it 😄😐😄😐
no
looked at it a million times and never notices it. you've got a good eye ( and ear)
wow never noticed that before. very good catch!
Did Echoes come before Across the Universe by The Beatles?
Having heard about 100,000,000 bootleg versions of this song, I have to wonder if Rick EVER got the words to Echoes 100% right.
This song holds a very special place in my life. It hit my core views about the meaning of life. This Is why I fucking love Pink Floyd.
17 years old right now and turning 18 in August. I just know that I’ll be watching this til I’m old, sitting there in the hospital bed blasting this on the smart tv.
Turning 18 in November. Feel the same exact way bro
18 in may same feeling
Tokyo56k why are you so sure you’ll die on a hospital bed?
Anuradha Jaishankar true, but if I were to I know for sure I’ll be watching the whole Pompeii performance 👨🏻🚀
Anuradha Jaishankar most people do no?
My father is around their age and more or less raised me on Pink Floyd. Everytime this song comes on we both just look at eachother with this grin and whisper “echos”
I think I'd like your dad 😊
Listening to Pink Floyd songs for me is like to pray
👍
7:08 --- Nicky breaks his left drum stick but acts cool and grabs another one !!!
Sandeep Sreehari he definitely had some blisters on his fingers after this
Favorite part for me, it is almost seamless, he just fills for a couple of beats with one, and already has another one somehow in his hand. Cool hand Nick.
right Mr Mason was and never will be called NICKY , it is Nicholas or Sir Nick of pikey Floydiam Ferrari GTO250 with a GTO250 numberplate lololololololo
Just tosses it. Pure gold move
i pointed it out to you blind idiots in the fist place and now you are taking the credit??????
Roger pickin' up his bass at 3:48 heals my day~
Love that moment.
man, this part especially the instrumental just makes me feel like I'm on a grand interstellar journey through space. It's such a crazy dark sound that is beautiful and emotional at the same time.
I feel like this is the most underrated Pink Floyd song. Probably because it didn't receive a lot of time on the radio
+JerkyLam 23 minutes on radio?!! It is their best song though!
JerkyLam I agree brother
Plenty of fans don't even know about it. they know Dark Side and beyond, because they get airplay, but not echoes. I was a PF fan from the late 70s on, and it wasn't until I saw my brother's VHS tape in 1990, that I discovered it. Of course those that do, cherish it. How many echo products have been created to replicate the Echorec based on this performance of Echoes alone?
No suites by Pink Floyd are underrated but Atom Heart Mother(suite), the rest are pretty known and beloved by all fans.
9000 years from now, Echoes will remain alone a platform of true musical genius. Their musical trajectory will remain unmatched. They live as immortals.
....... and just keep adding zeros ! :)
a modern day opera, what genius these guys were/are, we are so lucky to have them play their music, what a time to be alive.
My baby girl is a 16 year old cancer survivor. She loves Pink Floyd. As I type this, she is painting a pig on the ceiling of her bedroom, listening to Animals of course.
Greatest band in the history of music. Pink Floyd until last breath.
Kamal Talukder agreed
*2nd
I love Pink Floyd, but I think you forgot about this one band that was really good, some band by the name of Led Zeppelin.
@@tarheel777100 lol I'd go with the grateful dead being number one
Zrob pink floyd were far beyond Zeppelin in terms of musicality and originality
No doubt Pink Floyd is one of my favorite classic bands. But no band in my opinion will top my favorite band Rush!
7:38 = Goosebumps!
Richard sounds like he's raising Atlantis on this track. Just watching his fingers is art itself!
Still the greatest song ever produced, right when it kicks into the ending part that guitar and the keys just sends shivers down my spine in a good way
Chills every single time
I love this version the best. They are all spot on in this film. I especially like the bass guitar. This is one of their best songs. The Greatest band ever!!! David Gilmours guitar outro is Heavenly.
Sterling Blake That's Rick and David bouncing off each other. nothing like it. Let's give Rick some credit here.
Agreed, this was mostly his song, something he started and David worked with him to flesh it out. a great team effort. which is why David has been increasingly wary to play it without him. I think he will not play it anymore.
Sterling Blake
indeed you are correct. the whole idea came from rick experimenting with playing his piano trough a leslie speaker. to this day, this sound remains unique in the history of music.
Richard Wright's keyboards helped make this song immortal!!! Sometimes, I wish I had the ability to isolate his keyboard so I could just listen to it.
This is the ultimate live Pink Floyd recording for me. Echoes is my favorite Floyd track and this version is just great. I particularly like the gradual fading outro, which starts around 7:38. Brilliant back and forth between keyboards, guitar and drums. Music at its very very best.
Very true, the ending part is something indescribable
I'm crying now, but i'm so happy, life's making more sense, I found my reason to live!
Gilmour said that they were privileged to play at Pompeii at amphitheatre. They were first men after 2000 years or so which could play at amphitheatre. They were like gladiators of new age performing one of their best performance (possibly even the best one!)
Masterpiece of rock music.
I can listen to this song every day and still hear new bits and sounds .
And that`s what "classical" music is all about and this one will endure just the same.
I just love Richard's keyboards on this. And Roger doesn't just play his bass, he wrestles it!
An empty ancient stadium,.....no audience,...and the best LIVE concert EVER!....gotta love it!..meant for you tube,...from the past!....for the future!...AWSOME!....I can die in peace now!
JohnDgr81
I have the dvd. So grateful they did this and captured it all on video. It really is a masterpiece.
i love how the song just melts away in the middle. Starts up somewhere else then finds itself again. Truly amazing.
Reminds me of something lost
God I miss the 70s, good clean acid and FLOYD
Ah the seventies when us kids didn't have to have an adult looking over our shoulders
If you need drugs to enjoy music then you shouldn't listen to it at all
@@callummclean2698 Why even speak if you know nothing at all?

It's incredible how music has a magic that brings things, places, and even images to life. Especially amazing songs like this✨✨
Dave the best of Guitar!!.
Everytime I hear that song I think of my brother my brother died of cancer 2 days ago it's favorite song was Echoes from Pink Floyd
"Echoes" é para mim uma das melhores musicas dos Pink Floyd
As a teenager I was aware of Pink Floyd but it wasn't until I went to a friend's house, got stoned & he put Echoes on the turn table and it utterly transformed my perception of the band...I literally thought they were from outer space---then years later I found this video of them performing to the Roman dead in Pompei---mind blown again...yet, years later in college I saw Floyd play in Philly and they opened up with is...incredible
words to describe this sound have not been found yet...extraterrestrial
kate koto I would say, astral
Piel de gallina cuando escuchas esto? Viva Pink Floyd
05:49 what a pure smile 😊 And I'm in love with Richard's hands ♥️ Every member is fantastic. 🌿🌿♥️
They are the best thing music industry produced. I love pink Floyd!
Couldn't agree w/ you more..my heart drips of affection for this band..I will never understand why for those who do not recognize them as being the ultimate best rock band ever!
Who could do this, but Pink Floyd? Absolutely mesmerizing and hypnotic. Never again
Sadly.
Music is so beautiful.
God has gifted very few human beings incredible talent and genius minds ❤️
It is amazing how the tones of Gilmour and Wright's voices merge in a way that it is not easy to distinguish who is the first and the second voice over the musical compass. Simply amazing and beautiful.
If you listen in headphones, David is left and Richard is right. Forever thankful the sound engineer did this
Listening to this gets you high, but listening to this high takes it to whole new level
VinlaradLOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
guess youve never tripped on acid before
VinlaradLOL feels spiritual almost
I took a tab like at 1am it is now 4:30am and I'm here on acid watching Pink Floyd I got school tomorrow fukkkkk my life
Every time I take a trip right as im peaking i listen to echos part 1 and 2 .. its a key to a new realm lmao
This was before i was born...i only found intrest in Pink Floyd recently and came across this and to me its the greatest piece of music ever heard. Fuck music today..this was REAL.
I'm not even born and I approve this.
Yeah shit used to be real with real music real.instruments real musicians that studied music and practice for years and years
Now you put two verbs together and there you go you're an artist
Same goes for pretty much anything else
Civilization values speed and technological development to make life easier faster more practical but in reality we are shalower than our grandparents, no effort no depth no real sweat or feeling behind pretty much anything these days
Luckily I won't be alive to see the bottom of the pit of lack of creativity 100 years from now
This song should never have ended.
My top favorite pink floyd song !!!
I love how these "musicians" here criticize Floyd's playing... shut the F up, you're ruining the killer vibe. Simply, they are all brilliant...
i couldnt agree with you more! where is music as good as this now?
+george bevacqua like 7:06 where nick breaks his stick but SMOOTHLY replaces it without skipping a beat. i've been trying to master that art for YEARS. cheers everyone
It can get annoying sometimes
that's incredible i never noticed that before
I FEEL PINK FLOYD MUSIC INSIDE MY BONES.
4:00 waouh !
4:41 WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOUH !!!!!!
My exact reaction.
Onírico, increíble y eterno ♥ gracias Pink Floyd
RIP Richard and Sid ❤
The keyboard playing that starts at about 1:45 is some of the most beautiful music I've ever.
This is a spiritual trip for my soul
Esta es mi centésima ocasión que escucho esta rola. Seguirá siendo parte de mi vida hasta que muera. Y espero que ojalá me acompañe hasta más allá. Gracias maestros. Les deseo una feliz navidad hasta donde se encuentren.
fucking genius!!!!!amazing location and top live performance!!!!!
4:42 is still one of if not my all time favorite music pieces. eargasmic

Love every inch of this wonderful legendary song…❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ever since the band was introduced to the USA they have been sooo close to my heart. I love and have loved them all ❤
the band just blazes the shit out of it when they jam. saw this live in 87 and 88. absolutely awesome ! !
kenscapes wow very cool timing especially since time was so limited
kenscapes you look 12
kenscapes without Roger Waters of course!
kenscapes Awesome. I was 2 and 3 years old and yet to have discovered the greatness that is Pink Floyd.
juliana neves it looks like it’s an old picture of him
This is perfection.
Got a special performance in the tiny local cinema when we were young...Pink Floyd forever❤
Part 1: David
Part 2: Rick
I feel drainned after everytime i listen to this complete song.
its waves of genius my friend.....
Same here.... it is so intense. It feels bigger than yourself. But then i have to play it again.... 😍😍😍😍
My balls were like watermelons at the beginning of this video. I managed to bring myself to climax 8 times in 10 minutes so, yeah, I feel drained.
I feel charged.
