    Jim was off on one point. Local TV/radio is dead in the idea of promotion. With the rise of social media, there wasn't a need to go to local TV to advertise.
    Social media has changed the game for advertising and Cody Rhodes used this perfectly.

    • @78bcat
      @78bcat Před 6 lety +5

      That's the only point he was off on? Just to be clear: I admire Cody/Bucks for having balls and awesome for them that they succeeded...but just like Corny's completely dated take, it's a dated plan. The big money in wrestling is from TV, not "runnin' houses", so real ambition is making a product that can be sold to TV and it's so hard to do. Raw, SD, WWE PPV prove it's not hard to fill an arena of hardcore fans, but USA pays for the normal fans at home. That's success in 2018. So All In has the hardcores, but no TV network will think they can land the normal fans at home

    • @switchbuckle5th
      @switchbuckle5th Před 6 lety +14

      78bcat if your shows draw 10000 people then tge house show is still viable. Lots of circuses make money hand over fist. They don't need to be on television to make money. Television itself os now dated.

    • @IIDEADBIRDII
      @IIDEADBIRDII Před 6 lety

      switchbuckle5th the wwf doesnt need television because they have the network, but tell me that tna or whatever they call themselves not dont need tv to stay alive. Njpw has tv and its not because it gives them extra money. Your idea that tv is dead is just plain stupid. Its exposure for your product. Its a way to expose those who couldnt get one of those 10,000 seats you're happy about. Yes they filled 10,000 for the show but give them a 50,000 seat arena and have them fill that...... shit on the wwe all you want but no matter where they go they fill the arena and thats with the shit they put on the usa network.

And other stuff and while hes from an different era (so his promoting was different then) was applied to modern promoting.And he did not get everything right ofcourse. But huge credit to the "All In!" Team of guys and ladies, they were SMART enough to take good advice and apply it to the new market with media promoting! And he gives them credit! And while the phylosophy might be different everyone wins!

    Corny’s comment about profitability is something lost in the success of All In. I want to say I saw an interview that basically they ran out of money for the show at one point and that TK stepped in with money at the end to make sure it happened. I think Cody said that possibly towards the beginning of AEW. This achievement was incredible but realistically it was a moral victory as I doubt they actually made any money once all said and done. But in hindsight it led to AEW so I guess they profited in that way.

    • @Matt-cr4vv

I think if done right Cornette could bring a legends of Smoky Mountain to my Hometown of Pikeville, Kentucky and pack the newer East Kentucky Expo Center. He'd need to bring some of this new blood and have his legends for autograph signings meet and greet kinda thing. I'd pay $20 for general admission and bring my 5 children and my wife. Concessions merch and I'd probably drop $300 just for seven seats. I'm sure I am not the only one either.

    20:19 - Absolutely, we fans protected the business. In 1978, age 12, on the bus coming home from school, I'm trying to talk up this Ric Flair - Ricky Steamboat angle that was going on and white hot. But the whole time I was trying to talk, this one boy kept interrupting that "my daddy told me rasslin' was fake" and rasslin' is fake".
    I kept replying, "Oh no it's not". I was starting to get legit mad. This went on until we got off the bus in our neighborhood. Once off the bus, he started walking behind me repeating in cadence "rassslin's fake, rassslin's fake..."
    I couldn't stands no more. So I turned around and instinctively took him down with a single-leg and went right to the Figure-4 and locked it in. He was screaming in real pain like the proverbial bitch. I broke the hold and screamed at him, "Ask your daddy if that's fake!"
    I don't know if the Figure-4 really hurts or not as I've never had it applied on me but I realized years later, the only reason it hurt that kid was because I likely applied it wrong and I'm glad and lucky I didn't break his leg and I'd guess he was too. Yeah, we fans would protect the business.

      Ahyash Rawchaa Cornette does go back to the shit the both Omega and Young Bucks done in the past, the more outrageous stuff but, that is what call history and let's be honest here, he and like millions of people just like to go back and shit allover the stupid stuff that people have done in the past. Also I believe he says he likes the Young Bucks as people but hate Kenny Omega caused Omega screwed him over and if 100% true, you can't really fault him yeah.

    TV and radio is dead when it comes to promotion. Social media is where the young people spend the majority of their time. Who watches TV these days? Everything is Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc. Wrestling is a young person's game, it changes with the times. It's the young watching the young perform. So...doing things the old way just don't work anymore. The product has changed, what people want has changed. How you get things done has changed. Doing things like local radio and local TV is irrelevant, when it to promotion. That's was the only way to do it in Jim's day, now radio and TV are about as dead as the newspaper and magazine.

TNA drew 7200 with slammiversary 2012 and ROH got 6000 at supercard of honor while competing against NXT of all things which makes it even more impressive. After this ALL IN event I really don't see any reason why ROH couldn't do a 10,000 seat arena either

    I think that it's impossible to take wrestling seriously unless you're already a fan. People have MMA to compare and trying to show somebody professional wrestling of the "good ol' days" will only result in them shutting it down as phony bullshit. Let's be fucking frank, the rasslin from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, etc. all looked phony as fuck. I'm trying to watch those old Ric Flair matches with Barry Windham, and the old midnight express, but i can't help but notice how retardedly exaggerated it all is. The punches look fake, the selling is just bullshit and all of it looks like a circus act. And you know what? That's fine, wrestling is that. But MMA has given a rise to people who look at that shit and say "yup, complete horseshit". So, wrestling as an industry has adapted, and has taken a much bigger focus on the narrative aspect of it. The storylines, the feuds, etc.
    I'm talking strictly promotions like progress, ROH, NJPW, etc. They now focus on athleticly impressive competition, emotional in-ring storytelling and epic matches. They're working within the boundaries of the business, and embracing the so called "fakeness". Because, like i said, if you're trying to convince people that your shit ain't fake in 2018, you're a moron. And Corny is full of shit on this point.
