Their loss is our gain. I always enjoy your videos. The puns. Hating on blue paint. It’s all good stuff.
Thanks mate 😘
Woah! Having worked in the UK for 10 years I must say, that salary for such a position is miserable. Sorry you didn't get what you wanted, the video was hilarious and at least your fans (me included) will continue enjoying your content ❤
Thanks mate 😘
Silly Juan, GW you should've applied your hands for the position, not yourself.
Lol
Exactly, they’ll never hire someone with a name since they made the name of people like Duncan who are now making millions in paint and taking away from their biz.
@CalAndAly I would argue that hiring someone that already has a name is a safer bet as I've already done all that and prefer to trade it for stability
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures that’s a good point and I agree with you - I just don’t think that they would
@CalAndAly oh they did actually, that was one of the points of conversation. I think the main issue was inconvenience and my personal needs ATM. They were just not compatible
I'm glad you didn't take that job with GW. You are worth way more than that at your skill level. I don't know why people are expected to work so hard for so little at that company.
Most use it as a launch platform, that's why all their talent is bleeding away and it will keep happening until they understand that sometimes you have to pay more to retain your valuable assets
I’m glad we’ll keep enjoying your videos and hopefully we will all do everything we can so you can be adequately rewarded for it
Thanks mate
Nice thumbnail lmaooo 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I had to do it!
Gonna echo the sentiment that I'm much happier knowing we get to see your gorgeous self and watch your awesome vids rather than just seeing your hands
Thanks mate 😘
Your videos are longer, more in depth, better shot, more fun, more enjoyable than theirs. I would have been sad to see you boxed into their formats. Also honestly this video confirms you value the right things, you'll be rewarded for it.
Thanks mate
Your contents too good for WH+. If Duncan, peachy, and Louise all left the GW video department behind for CZcams it tells you everything you need to know
Yes, but also their life situation is different than mine. I'm at a point where I'm willing to sacrifice some freedom and potential income in order to gain more stability
But I get your point
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures fair enough, and it would have been a good opportunity either way. I’m just glad you’re keeping the reigns on your content
"You might remember me from...", hahaha. Love it.
Thanks mate 😘
This was super interesting, thank you for the peek behind the curtain. 😁❤️👍🏻
Happy to help
I'm sorry for you that it didn't work out, but happy for the rest of us. Your videos are my favourite hobby videos, period. I would hate to see them stop. I keep finding new ones that are useful for me, and I also enjoy the humour you throw into them :) Please keep it up!
Thanks mate
35K Pounds a year is an embarrassing amount to pay individuals that are entertainers, grow the business, and the face of the company.
The thing is that amount could have worked for me if I could be based here in Spain. That's a VERY respectable salary here but in the end it was way too much trouble for them and I can't blame them
Its also a respectable salary in the UK, where the median is much lower.
Yeah, 35K sounds pretty good to me.
I make less than half of that
Hate to break it to you buddy but that's actually a pretty reasonable salary, it's £8k above the median & more than teachers, doctors, nurses & police make at the beginning of their careers...
Thanks for this video, and indeed for all of your content, Juan.
My wife works in a creative industry (costume), and neither she nor her colleagues are properly paid for their skills and experience. Her company is a revolving door, with excellent costumers joining and then leaving after 2-3 years. Their salary is not high enough to pay the bills, so they either make a go of it on their own, or they leave the industry completely.
I therefore agree that if as an employer you want to attract and retain talent, you need to pay for it.
More subjectively in your case, I’d need a hell of a lot more than GBP35k to leave my home country and start a new life, no matter how cool the job potentially is.
The thing is I suggested several options that could work perfectly fine for both parties but I guess they are not ready yet
You are too entertaining to be a GW painter.... truth.
Thanks mate 😘
Adding my thoughts to this. I hope nothing but success for you, but I am glad you didn't go to warhammer+ as it would mean I couldn't watch you anymore, and that would be a sad outcome as I really love your vids.
Also, your application video was great!
Thanks mate
This video shows that you did a lot of awesome stuff and your humor is just fantastic. I really enjoy your content and I am looking foward to see many more future videos. ❤️
Thanks
Juan, I totally understand. I recently applied for a position that could have been a life changer. Did the interview but, like you, I have to value family first being a husband and a father of two. Things did not match, but I’m happy I tried, at least now I KNOW. and who knows what future will bring, maybe our occasions are just postponed 😊
(And I’m selfishly happy you won’t go to GW so we will continue to get your awesome videos that are both incredibly funny and so inspiring. Most of my drive in painting miniatures come from your videos so thank you so much!)
Thanks mate
Your application video is hysterical- also, hot damn you are a skilled painting man! Good on you for applying but I'm selfishly glad you're still here. How they can justify that salary to a man of your skillset and that you have a family to support, as well as the huge costs of relocating is fairly laughable though.
I offered them several alternatives to relocation that could work but it seems they are not interested
Gracias amigo!
Man. What coudl've been. You're totally right though. It was worth a shot just to know and I totally get that having a family at home is something that takes priority over everything else.
It's cool that they were willing to come to table when you said that moving wasn't possible for you. In theory that job could totally be done remotely, doubly so if GW hires existing content creators for it. They all have an existing camera setup and some of them have experience with (semi) professional video creation. In fact, going for existing content creators might just be their best option. I wouldn't be surprised if quite a couple people would take that deal. Getting a stable income at GW sounds a whole lot better than being subjected to the whims of the algorithm. I'd take that deal myself, in my position it'd be a dream job.
Also, your video application was excellent stuff. HR probably had a good giggle looking at it and the painters were probably shouting at them to select you.
Yeah that was my thought but GW is still too stubborn about flexible working conditions. I gave them SEVERAL options that would work even traveling there for a week each month to record but in the end it was too much hassle for them and I don't blame them.
Juans First Warhammer+ video… Ultramarine painting guide 😂

But Juan, we've all *seen* your hands already! What new frontiers would GW have for you to explore, really?
Lol
'Except for Mark Baker, he regressed' 🤣
Lol
Exceptions prove the rule etc 😅

@@markbaker9323 well, not unless we start painting blood bowl minis :D
GM was crazy to not take you on, JH. Still, it's cool knowing your channel will be up a bit longer.
Thanks mate 😘
wow that salary is a major dealbreaker. that is terribly low, I didn't think it would be that low. I think you dodged a bullet.
Depending on the conditions I would be very happy with that tbh, but anyway I didn't get it so...
35,000 GBP seems like a very small amount.
Depends on where you live but to sustain a family in the UK, it surely is
Hey Juan. My sister also applied to a job on GW as a translator recently. She was in the end turned away in the last interview but the salary was around 28k which is odd because the job was full remote and she could work from spain and here that is an ok salary. I dont understand how they offer you those conditions for a job in the UK
Exactly, that salary being located in Spain is VERY good, I tried to give them several options that could work for me but in the end I guess it was too much trouble for them.
That pay for a father of two is not really feasible if I have to move to the UK
Juan, you are not only one of the best painters but also and amazing teacher. I can give proof of this because I was one of your private students. Hope everything goes better for you, because you deserve it. Cheers.
Thanks mate
It sure is Billy, it sure is 😂
I had SO MUCH FUN recording that bit
Thank you for another awesome video!
Thank you for watching them
You would have made an excellent warhammer painter, it really is a skill to simplify techniques and then EXPLAIN them in an even more concise manner. I work in a local hobby store and you're the number one person i recommend as i find a lot of hobby channels just provide tutorials that i believe to be out of reach for most people compared to yours 😅
Thanks mate, much appreciated
35k a year in Nottingham is borderline poverty.
For Nottingham it is yes, that's why I suggested other options that could work for that money but in the end corporate wants what corporate wants
Que gran presentador se van a perder. Eres un autentico crack. Personalmente creo que vales mucho mas.
Gracias guapo
Pffft 30k a year? Did they want you to bring your own paint supplies too? Buahahahahaha
It's not too bad if I could live here but to sustain a family in the UK it's not feasible
I applied for a GW studio job a few years back. Always felt like it would have been a dream to work there. But man, got such a weird vibe from the whole place and the people. You're so much better out of it.
Thanks mate
Thank the gods you are staying in JH land 🙏😜🙏 x
😘
Britain is a low pay high tax country in steep decline.
The cost of living there is definitely through the roof
derrapando al borde del abismo
Lol
For reference, tax is 20% of anything you make above the personal allowance, which is currently £12,570. So you'd pay 20% of about 20k in taxes for the year
Interesting
It is for the best. If you got that job, I wouldn’t be able to tell you hello anymore
😘
Thank you , Juan .

Couple of years ago I applied for a job at GW store in Dublin, but I was immediately told that only friends of the actual GW store employees could get a job. Despite painting miniatures and playing GW games since my teens, my CV was rejected. Because I didn't know anybody there and I wasn't their regular customer.
That's awful
Fascinating…
Glad you liked it
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I don’t like that they don’t show the faces of the presenters anymore… it’s dehumanizing.
I actually asked that during the interview and their answer is they like to try different formats to see what works best in terms of audience.
This is just a phase, they don't discard returning to the old format in the future but according to their numbers, the faceless videos actually perform better, specially on CZcams
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I’m am by no means anti GW but I find that response hard to swallow. They should take pride in everyone that has launched a successful career after they left. It’s a feather in their cap they gave them an audience and were successful.
@The_Original_Black_Blow_Fly I totally agree. As far as I know, there's no hard feelings towards any of them at all.
At no point I got that impression, and we discussed it at length
too bad for them, thanks for sharing your experience
there's really no point moving your whole family to a new country to live on such a low wage, sad GW isn't willing to pay its employees decently. Even the ones on stage.
Thanks
I've applied a few times to GW... Never went anywhere. Chatting with ex-GW employees was told that they loved my ideas. One position was for the video games licensing and lead they were looking for at one point. Oh well. Now studying for another degree in a field that actually matters. :)
Sometimes things happen for the better
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Exactly. Also nothing ventured, nothing gained. :)
That would be amazing actually, but I'm not sure if that would be better. Go after what you want most :D
What I want the most is to have a stable job that pays enough to feed my family. As I said, I have very clear priorities at this point in life.
That job could have filled my need but it wasn't to happen sadly
Don't leave us haha!
That's not happening
It will be interesting to see if they allow the next presenters to have a personality, or if they are just faceless operators. Think all the past presenters leaving and setting up seperately got them spooked
Probably, I would be curious too.
I'm sorry you didn't get what you hoped to with the application- but I'm VERY glad we don't lose you. Don't ever lose your independence, which their contracts seem to strip away. The amount of pay they're offering is insulting, considering how much money they bring in. Always know you made the right choice here.
Thanks
Theres always Vallejo...
Good Ol' Vallejo
I don't think that's a great salary for such skilled work...
Depending on where you live, that's the key here. I offered very reasonable solutions that would totally work for me but they in the end decided otherwise
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures understandable, seems like they'd have been very lucky to have you! Selfishly, I like having your videos to watch while I'm busy at my own similarly paying job.
They might not appreciate you but we do!
Thanks mate 😘
Gracias
I've known several people who put in for sales positions with GW, and it was absurd what they required. Glad you didn't do it.
I was looking for a stable, long time job so I know my family will be well fed till I retire but it was not to be
That £35k salary is much better than I'd have expected. It's not great, and certainly not great for someone who'd be a resident celebrity, but it's not completely insulting. I'd expected they'd offer something more like £25k.
I could have made that work as I said given the right conditions but... It was not for me
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures It's their loss. As you said, they could easily have afforded it; and you've done as much or more for their paints than any of their own painters. But also, given the company, I could imagine they'd also like someone more like a children's TV presenter, and someone more able to work out of the design studio. It's testament to what you've done for contrast paints that they considered you right until the end.
@richkanu also I don't think I could have kept my mouth shut like a good corporate boy. I would probably have been fired immediately 🤣
It wouldn't be feasible to live in nottingham on that salary.
Though i am aware if a few people who work for gw for less.
Most definitely not feasible to live there for me
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I hope you figure out something that can sustain your painting skill
@BeepBoop2221 slowly but surely mate
35k is what I got paid when I left the UK..
Depending on where you went, that would have been quite a lot
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Lol, I agree
PHEEWW. ;)
Thankyou so much for candidly sharing the process (and your brilliant application video). I think it's a shame the stars didn't align for this as having your influence in the studio would have been awesome. I don't think the salary was bad in the slightest. I was on a couple of thousand more as a senior support manager at a software house so was pleasantly surprised. (I do miss that money now I'm a starving commission artist but I'm a thousand times happier).
But glad you did what was right for you. And with Ultramarines being the poster boy you potentially dodged painting a lot of blue 😂
Lol
I for one am glad you didn’t get the job, we all need a bit of Juan in our lives, chin up you were too good for them anyway..
Thanks mate
Cursed City?
What's that?
That salary won't be enough to live with a family in the UK and a mortgage. The cost of living is really high.
I know, that's what I've told them and offered several options that would work but I guess they were not interested
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I suspect the salary and job would be more suitable for a 'younger' type of person with no real-life commitments.
Obviously, but I hope they don't complain when those young persons run away the minute they build enough following
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures 😆 Indeed!
Warhammers loss is our (re)gain.
😘
This may be an unpopular opinion, but for many unknown artists out there, 30-30k Pounds per year is not at all an unreasonable salary. Games Workshop doesn't need to hire a known CZcams celebrity artist, just someone who can paint well and perform well on camera. There will be plenty of good applicants at that price point, and GW only needs one.
I actually agree. It also depends on what they want from this new employee.
The thing with hiring an unknown, young and passionate person is that young, passionate people WILL move as soon as a better opportunity arises. My intention was to offer something different, I was genuinely planning to make this a permanent, stable job. I thought offering them the security that I was never going to move away would be a good enough incentive and in a way it was, because they actually considered me WAY longer than I expected initially.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I do wonder if GW actually loses out from their TV presenters going rogue (ahem.) Sugs, Peachy and Duncan are still promoting Warhammer, by teaching people how to paint and / or talking about the products, even though they're now off the clock. GW are still advertising to these CZcamsrs audiences, without having to pay them. That's got to be a net positive for GW.
@Mikey__R well, I do think they do. Training someone to perform on camera is not easy and not everyone can cut it. It's probably not as impactful for them considering WH+ is a miniscule portion of their business but I do think they should work to have a permanent "face" for the company and take good care of them
I was actually quite surprised to hear it was that much. I was expecting it to be closer to £25k. £30-35k it's a pretty decent salary so things considered & is quite a bit more than the median salary for the UK.
Im Genuinely really glad you didnt get it, you've cultivated a fantastic community here and working for a corporation like GW would have killed it. Im glad we didn't lose you. There is Nothing GW could have done for us that you can do HERE. Ill never forgive them for killing Darren Lathams channel.
Thanks mate
33k in pounds to USD right now is 42k, per year! Also with 20 percent tax like Juan mentioned... LOL!!! 😅
For a public facing instructional job requiring a whole skillset and more?! ROFL!!! 🤣🤣🤣
GET ROTATED GW! God damn, their management sucks. No wonder they lost a ton of people.
They are bleeding talent for sure
It's all relevant to the cost of living though. Out of our taxes we get full health cover through the NHS.
Pretty sure they would want to shut down this channel as well as they dont like competition, pretty sure employed eavy metal painters cant have their own channels.
And i for one would hate to see this channel disappear.
Yes, that was of course one of the consequences
35k pounds to USD is $44.5k… that’s garbage imo
Depends on where you live of course for example in Spain that is a VERY respectable salary
Its worse than garbage, I would have cut them.
yeah fair enough. i didn't consider that. you're worth more than that though,@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures !
The salary they offered is actually really good imo, I teach A-Levels full time and earn less than £30K, which is pretty average for teaching in the UK. Confused at the people snubbing this in the comments.
The issue is that Nottingham is not cheap at all and for that much you can barely live, much less considering I have two kids to feed. For me moving there was not an option, specially for that money
35k is way too low.
I find it funny, people are actually very divided in that opinion. It's either an absolute disgrace or a very decent salary 🤣
You should get a survey together haha. I'm partially under the impression that the position would be based near London - if so.... might be challenging. Additionally, I wonder if any videos created under them would need edited by you or by a team. That's a tall order to paint, record, edit, post and engage as a job.
The position is solely as a presenter. They have editors and people in charge of recording.
The location is Nottingham, which is also very expensive
@@joshbarber3213Nottingham is nowhere near London
OMG Thank god you didn't take the job at GW.
It's not that I didn't take it, it's that they rejected me 🤣
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I think my story is better 😂
Probably 🤣
GW dont deserved you anyway!
Thanks
A video without you speaking to explain the skills and the proces wouldn't be one half as nice as what you do here 😆
Thanks
Given GW pay the majority of their store staff below minimum wage, is less than $20k per year, it's not surprise you couldn't come to an agreement.
They are a horrendous company.
I don't agree on the horrendous part at all but I understand your position
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I'm pretty bias being in Australia and having them absolutely gouging us on price.
Add that fact on to basically every decision they make being terrible for the consumer. I can't really call them anything else.
I'd be interested to see some numbers for this as paying below national minimum wage is illegal.
@@FacesNBases I tried to find the CZcamsr that covered this.
He was a store manager in the past.
He's shown his old pay slips on stream to try and shut down all the GW cucks that refuse any criticism of GW.
Obviously the devout GW simps claimed the pay slips were fake because GW is the epitome of awesome in all aspects.
I can't remember which channel it is though. If it pops up again, I'll add it to another comment.
@youtubevanced4900 you don't make your argument any more compelling by calling people "cucks"
Lol 35k! That's peanuts salary for people whose painting skill is beyond exceptional.
Thanks for the compliment
You had zero chance from the start. You have a personality. The last thing GW wants is anyone that has a personality. Anyone that has one, is a risk that you leave and take subscriber's away from them.
