      I’m glad you like it. Feel free to share it with your friends. Together we can help improve specimen quality. The best part about it is you make a positive impact in patient care because you care.

    Hey I am a new subscriber and I’ve been watching your videos for about a few days now and I am so happy I found you. I am not sure if you did a video on this yet, but how do I know what color to use when it comes to test tube color look up for drawing blood from a doctor order?

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  Před 4 měsíci

      Each tube comes with specific preservative, so it is dependent on the test. Test requirements should tell you that. Is there a specific test you are looking for?

    What tubes do
    You need to centrifuge ?

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  Před 2 lety +2

      This is tricky because you can spend any tube. It is more of what kind of specimen you need for that test. In general you will spend clotted tube and tube with gel separation. However, there are tests that need plasma from EDTA tube.

      I would recommended these two books, phlebotomy Notes: Pocket Guide to Blood Collection for review and NHA Phlebotomy Exam 2021-2022: Study Guide + 300 Questions and Detailed Answer Explanations for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician Examination (Includes 3 Full-Length Practice Tests) for practice.
      If you end-up using these two book, please let me know how you like them. It will be helpful for the others as well. Thanks!

    During blood draw if some one else blood is at tip of needle will it enter the vacutainer tube while drawing blood

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  Před 3 lety +1

      I hope that this will never happen during an actual blood draw. There are many things that need to be discussed here.
      1. Needles should never be reused period. Needles can transmit blood borne diseases.
      2. If for some reason, you see needle is contaminated (eg. blood, stain, dust, anything). Do not use that needle. Discard it and get a new one.
      3. If someone else's blood is at the tip of the needle, it means that the drawer does not follow a proper collection process. Retraining may be necessary for patient’s safety.
      However, just to entertain hypothetical thought, any liquid that can go through the needle’s opening can enter the tube. An example of this will be urine vacutainer tube.

    • @ajith1234
      @ajith1234 Před 3 lety

      @@BloodTalks so if that happens and if blood enters the vaccum tube then the result will b skewed right ?

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  Před 3 lety +1

      That is hard to say. I wish I could give you a yes or no answer, but I couldn’t. This never happened to me. As I said someone else's blood should not be at the tip of the needles that are about to draw a patient. Anyhow. I do not think that it would affect the result that much because the majority of the blood that is in the tube should be from the patient. Once you push the needle into the patient’s vein, the blood that sucks in is the patient’s blood. However, the potential is there since that sample is not pure. I guess the answer is it depends on how much the sample was contaminated.

      @lemonlimesnout Před 3 lety +1

      @@ajith1234 I would be less concerned about someone else's blood being on the needle and skewing results and be more concerned over the possibility of infecting the patient with a blood borne pathogen. i would never let anyone come near me with a needle that was not fresh from the package to prove the sterility of the equipment.
