- Ellen's Season 14 American Idol audition with "I Wanna Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart." "The Beverly Hillbillies" at the end was not a set up haha. I am just thankful I remembered how to play the song!
I initially auditioned for American Idol while they were on their Bus Tour in 2014 at the Branson Landing. I then advanced to Kansas City, Missouri where this clip was filmed while I auditioned for the celebrity judges: Keith Urban, Harry Connick Jr., and Jennifer Lopez. I made it through Hollywood Week and advanced to the top 48, and was eventually cut in Judgment Week, right before making it to the live shows.
My American Idol journey was an amazing experience and I am so thankful I had this opportunity. It was also incredible for both me and the rest of the Petersen family as it has given us lots of exposure and helped bring awareness to our family band.
When they informed me I wasn't advancing I was filled with peace and hope because I knew God had something different and better for me. Better may not mean more money or fame, but it does mean a life spent growing closer to Him and glorifying Him with the gifts He has given me. Thank you to everyone for believing in me and encouraging me! It has meant more to me than you will ever know.

I hate to defend JLo, but in total fairness, the point of these initial auditions is to separate the wheat from the chaff, and it was obvious about 5 seconds in that this audition was wheat.

JLo says Ellen is "..about to bloom"; I wonder what she means, because as far as I can see Ellen shines and blooms naturally, doesn't need any makeup or expensive clothes. Simply a natural talent, musician and person.

Paul Henning, the writer and producer of The Beverly Hillbillies, wrote the song - instrumental part and lyrics. Jerry Scoggins sang the song, Lester and Earl played it.

There are performers who are 'in-public nice' and a few who are 'in-private nice'. When accidents and surprises happen or people aren't watching, the real nature happens. My compliments to the parents for raising 4 of the few 'in-private nice' and very kind people.

It all honesty most Aussies (especially in the outback) probably has more in common with the American country and western culture then an American from the northeastern culture (and specially the Bronx) would.

I just saw them play last year in Ohio, and I would say that Ellen is still as sweet and approachable as a person as she showed on American Idol. AND, I would say that she is even better now than she was back then. She has indeed "bloomed" as JLo said, but only in a good way! The Petersens are awsome!
